Chapter 355

    Chapter 355

While Ronan was chatting with Edwin downstairs, Cordelia was upstairs, engaged in conversation with

    Brooklyn via Messenger.

[Cordelia, Edwin''s game business is going under, and it''s all my fault. I was the one who invited you

and Mr. Evans to that birthday party. Mr. Evans invested in him, and now he might lose out, too. I feel

    so guilty.]

[What on earth are you talking about?]

Brooklyn was not known for being emotionally stable. Sheunched into a tirade. [The High Society

has pulled its partnership with Pulse Technologies. The hit product we were banking on is not going to

    N?velDrama.Org holds ? this.

happen. And do you know what else, Cordelia? I just found out that the interns who just started this

year at our department are making almost as much as I am. They''re earning two grand more than we

did when we interned. It''s so frustrating. It''s like this all over thepany. It makes me want to go back

to grad school. Edwin''s not doing well, and neither am I!]

Reading Brooklyn''s message, Cordelia was silent for a long time.

Brooklyn''s message had struck a nerve. Cordelia had always wanted to finish her unfinished degree,

but she hadn''t told Ronan. She feared his disapproval and the fact that she would lose her chance to

bring it up again. If Cordelia was in Brooklyn''s shoes, a newbie with no background, she would

    inevitably face the same situation.

    Her academic qualifications were always a thorn in her side. She already had her offer letter;

everything was ready except for her.

"What are you thinking about?" Ronan hade upstairs and noticed Cordelia lost in thought.

"Oh, Brooklyn just told me that The High Society is pulling out of their partnership with Pulse

Technologies. She''s pretty anxious." Cordelia didn''t mention Brooklyn''sments about their sries.

"News travels fast. Edwin just told me the same thing."

"Are you going to lose money?" Cordelia asked him nervously.

Ronanughed. "It''s hardly a significant amount."

Cordelia thought. "The ‘insignificant amount’ Ronan is referring to would probably take her a lifetime to

    earn.”

    "Aren''t you worried?" Cordelia asked.

"I''ve got you on my mind, and no room for anything else," he said nonchntly.

Cordelia blushed, thinking, “He''s probably just teasing me, judging by his casual tone.”

"How''s the baby doing?" Cordelia had wanted to check on their child earlier, but Olen had beat her to it.

    She felt frustrated.

"You can go check on him. No one''s stopping you."

"I..." Just as Cordelia was about to bicker with Ronan, her phone buzzed. It was a new message on

    Messenger from Marian.

And Ronan''s phone rang. It was a call. He excused himself to answer it.

[Cordelia, my father''s filmpany is hosting a cocktail party. You seem bored at home. Come join us.]

Cordelia was wary of Marian; they weren''t exactly friends. But considering that Edwin''spany and

The High Society had failed to coborate, she wondered if she could find some opportunities through

Marian. She only knew that Kent was wealthy, not that he owned a filmpany. So, Cordelia replied

with a couple of words. [Sure. When?]

[Tomorrow night, dress up! It''s at Cityscape za. Not far from your ce.]

[Okay. I have a friend. Can shee too?]

Cordelia was referring to Brooklyn. She thought, “Since Brooklyn is so worried about Edwin, I''ll leave

this potential business opportunity to her to explore. Besides, I''ve always been cautious around Marian

and feared that I might get hurt. So, having Brooklyn with me would be reassuring.”

After replying to the message, Cordelia kept ncing at Ronan on the phone. His conversation was

cryptic, filled with "mm-hmm," "alright,” and "I''ve seen it." Cordelia couldn''t discern what he was talking

about. After the call ended, Cordelia asked him, "Who was that?"

"HR," Ronan replied, looking at Cordelia. "Are you thinking of going back to the Audit Department?"

"It''s still early for me. Even if I go on maternity leave, I''d have to rest for three months," said Cordelia. In

truth, she just wanted to secretly check out Lumos Enterprises'' hiring requirements to see if she met

their standards. But it was clear that she wouldn''t get any information from Ronan. She decided to

    search online another day.

"I''m going out tomorrow night," Cordelia informed Ronan.

    "For what?"

"Edwin''spany has taken a big hit, and Brooklyn wants to talk about it." She didn''t tell Ronan the

truth, fearing he wouldn''t let her go.

Knowing that Cordelia was feeling cooped up at home, Ronan agreed.
