Chapter 263
Cordelia was at a loss for words. Who was he to dictate her life that way? She was supposed to study
abroad the following January, not go to work at Lumos Enterprises. Cordelia''s hand, holding her fork
tightly, was shaking. "I''m not going!" she dered.
Ronan just sat there, silent, as if saying, "This isn''t up to you."
Cordelia was so angry that her stomach hurt. She couldn''t eat anymore. Out of the corner of her eye,
she saw her pendant lying on the floor next to the coffee table. She walked over and bent down to pick
it up. The pendant was broken in half.
The angrier Cordelia got, the more she couldn''t bend down, her face flushed red with frustration. But
she didn''t want to argue with him; she knew she wouldn''t win. It was pointless.
Ronan just watched her. Then he got up silently, picked up the broken pendant, and put it on the dining
table.
Cordelia returned to her meal, in silence.
A knock at the door. Ronan went to answer it and found Jamie on the doorstep. After opening the door,
Ronan didn''t say a word and went back to his seat on the couch.
"Cordelia?" Jamie called out to her.
"Hm?" Cordelia recovered from her anger. "Let''s go to my room and talk."
"You''ll talk here!" Ronan spoke coldly.
Jamie was afraid that if he didn''t do as Ronan said, it would cause trouble for Cordelia, so he sat down
opposite her. His eyes fell on the broken pendant on the table.
He had bought that pendant from a store for a million dors, afraid that Cordelia wouldn''t ept it if
she knew the cost, so he lied and said it was from a church. Last time, she returned the rabbit bracelet
to him after her exams.
"How did it break?" Jamie asked.
Cordelia felt a bit embarrassed. "I almost slipped in the showerst night, and it got like this."
"Are you okay?" Jamie asked anxiously, grabbing Cordelia''s hand.
Cordelia felt awkward, stealing a nce at Ronan, who was reading a book, but he surely saw what
they were doing. She realized that Ronan was no longer holding back. He had been restraining himself
for reasons like their divorce, the murder of Cordelia''s mother, and her pregnancy. But ever since they
slept together again, he seemed to have no inhibitions. He had be the Ronan who made Jamie
kneel before him.
"Your wrist is bruised too?" Jamie asked.
"That''s also from the fall in the shower," Cordelia covered up again.
"Are the babies okay?"
"It should be okay. It''s quite big now."
Jamie had a lot he wanted to say to Cordelia, but it wasn''t appropriate with Ronan there.
Cordelia thought he was there to discuss her resignation from First Enterprises, but he didn''t mention it

at all. However, there was a cloud of worry in Jamie''s eyes, which puzzled Cordelia. "Cordelia, did you
get the email?" he asked.
At first, Cordelia didn''t understand what Jamie was referring to, but then it hit her. He was asking about
her graduate school offer. She shook her head in disappointment.
"Don''t worry. It''s still early."
"I hope so," Cordelia replied.
"Cordelia, there are many things that we can''t control. Don''t stress about this." Jamie said, looking
sorry for Cordelia.
Cordelia just nodded.
After finishing her meal, Jamie collected her dishes and washed them. His attitude was quite humble
that day. He stayed for a while before leaving.
"You seem to be very skilled at ying both sides," Ronan put down his book and said to Cordelia
slowly.
Cordelia didn''t want to deal with him; she just wanted to go back to her room. Her stomach hurt from
the anger caused by Ronan. She wanted to watch some TV shows on her phone to ease her mood.
Just as she picked up her phone, she saw a message in the First Enterprises project group. First
Enterprises had been acquired, and the new major shareholder was named Kent. Marian had added
Kent to the group, and Kent had sent a message to all the group members. [As thepany''srgest
shareholder, I announce some personnel adjustments. Since we are a high-endw firm, where clients
value education, those employees with an education level below a master''s degree don''t need toe
to work. Thepany will provide severance packages."
Cordelia was stunned. Although he didn''t mention any names, Kent practically spelled out Cordelia''s
name. Most importantly, she hadn''t invested in thew firm. Initially, Jamie had suggested that she
contributebor as her investment.
Now she understood why Jamie looked so uneasy; he must have known all along. She knew that
someone would be trying to alienate her, but she also knew that herck of education was indeed her
shoring.
Cordelia was in a daze, while messages from Jamie kepting in on Messenger. She was holding
her phone unconsciously, and her eyes were fixated on the floor in front of her.
"Cordelia," Ronan called her from outside her room. He called her several times, but she didn''t
respond.
