Chapter 248 What Mischief Is She Making Again

"In actuality, I decided not to reunite with my parents. So I directly walked away when I met and

recognized them, " said Moore with a smirk.

"Why did you make that decision atst? You tried so hard to search for them, so after finding them,

why did you change your mind?" Jean asked surprised with Moore''s exnation.

"I don''t matter to them so the reunion would be meaningless. Before meeting them, I believed they had

a good reason for abandoning me. At first, I thought about many potential reasons why I was deserted.

Perhaps it was because of poverty, tough life or illness and so on. But after seeing them, I realized they

    were not poor or helpless."

Talking about this brought an agitated look on Moore''s happy face.

Upon hearing that, Jean felt sympathy for him. She sat still and stared at himpassionately not

    knowing the right words tofort.

"Let bygones be bygones, " said Jean in a gentle voice while she took his hands.

Jean had no idea that Moore suffered a lot in his life. She was ashamed of never asking him this

    before.

Hearing this made her realize how they both lived the same life of suffering.

For a moment, Jean imagined how he must have felt to be abandoned by his biological parents.

As if to break the gloom that befell them, he looked up at Jean and said with a forced smile, "Ahmm,

very funny, right? It is so humiliating."

"Stop it, Moore, I am your friend and you have the right to be vulnerable in front of me. Think about me

when you feel bad about your life, because my situation is even worse than yours. Beforeing here,

I answered a phone call from my younger half-sister. She told me that he...my father... is dying. I am

not sure if she is speaking the truth or ying one of her tricks." Thinking of this brought shivers down

    Jean''s spine.

"I can tell you are upset with her. Let''s hope she isn''t speaking the truth. You seem very sad, so why

don''t you check it yourself. That way, you can set your mind at rest." Moore offered his suggestion with

    his eyebrows furrowed.

"No, it is unnecessary to do that. It is none of my business even if Shirley is speaking the truth." Jean

turned down his suggestion while shaking her head.

"But you..." Before he could say more, Jean interrupted him.

"Ie here for you, and you ask me to visit someone else. Moore, is it because you don''t want me

here? If so, just tell me, " said Jean while she feigned a displeased look.

"Of course not." Moore shook his head in a hurry looking shocked by Jean''s words. "I am so d that

you cane here to see me. How is it possible for me to urge you to leave? I know that you are

kindhearted. In fact, you are still concerned about him even after they treated you like a crap. Am I

right? So Jean, just listen to your heart. Don''t make decisions in a hurry and regret itter. I don''t want

    you to live with regrets."

Moore said this with a sincere and serious look. Originally, Jean tried hard to get this idea off her head.

But after Moore''s suggestion, she decided to give it another thought.

"You know how to convince me. Now I am going to take your advice and visit him even though he

doesn''t deserve it." Jean responded with an anguished sigh.

"Indeed, it is normal that you worry about him. After all, he is old and has stayed in hospital for a long

time, but you''ve never visited him. Just take advantage of this chance to see him!" Moore added to

make sure Jean wouldn''t change her mind.

"Hmm." Atst, Jean made a resolution to visit Henry and nodded at Moore. "Okay, I am going to take

    a look."

Moore smiled and said, "Go ahead!"

"Then, I wille to see you again some other day." Jean stood up not wanting to leave.

"Okay, fine. I will be waiting, " said Moore. He nodded at her with a smile which didn''t dispel until he

was sure she couldn''t see him. Then, a bitter sadness took over his mood.

Walking out of the ward, Jean felt her heart beat faster. Leaning against the wall, she tried to stand

because her legs were failing her.

''Jean, you are good for nothing.

He has treated you like you don''t matter to him, yet you find different excuses to see him. Your heart is

even beating faster at the thought of seeing him.

Are you nervous? Or are you excited?

How long has it been since you met Henry?'' Jean questioned herself.

It seemed that months had passed since shest met Henry.

Jean didn''t expect that she would have to meet Henry in a hospital after thest banquet.

She had never gone to visit him even though she knew he was here. Her heart was filled with hatred

every time when she recalled the fact that Henry never fulfilled his responsibility as a father. She felt

disgusted thinking about how he sold her out for his selfish reasons.

Every time her heart desired to see him, she would remind herself of his deeds.

She kept telling herself not to be softened by his presence again.

In spite of shivering, she made a firm decision to meet him. First of all, she promised Moore and

    wouldn''t like to break it.

Secondly, she wanted to check if Shirley''s sadness she detected was a lie or not.

Even though she barely walked past his ward, she had a vague memory about where it was. She

remembered quarreling with Shirley and Winner outside the ward.

She took a deep breath and pushed the door wide open. On entering, she noticed it was empty with no

    belongings left behind.

    Content bel0ngs to N?vel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

''You son of a bitch, Shirley.

So it was just a lie, '' Jean thought.

Thinking of this, Jean turned back with rage. She bloated with anger and sprinted across the hallway

identally hitting a nurse. She apologized and then asked, "May I know if the patient staying in this

    ward has been released?"

The nurse gave a weird look at Jean. "Released? Myocardial infarction urred to the patient at

midnight. Right now he is ina. We are not sure if he will ever wake up, "

The nurse replied in an impatient tone and walked away.

Jean heard buzzing inside her ears and felt the background fade away. She stood stock still in the

ce where the nurse had just left a few seconds ago.

''Myocardial infarction urred to the patient at midnight. Right now he is ina. We are not sure if

    he will ever wake up.''

These words repeated themselves inside her head. Jean found the truth hard to believe. She stepped

back and leaned weakly against the wall letting out a small cry.

Her body slid down the wall and with her eyes blurred because of the tears.

''The obese Henry, a cunning and wicked man, is always fine. How could he have copsed so easily?

The doctor said he was getting better.

How did the situation be so fatal?''

Jean sat down lifelessly for about an hour, and then she mustered her strength and stood up. She felt

hard to stand up and her body had turned sore from sitting in an ufortable position for too long.

While she struggled, a hand grabbed her from behind. Without looking up at the person, Jean stood up.

Once she was on her own, she turned to thank the stranger.

Before Jean could express her gratitude, she was stunned as she recognized the person. "Why are

    you here?"

"What a coincidence! I nearly mistook you for someone else." Calvin stared at her with great concern.

"You don''t look too well. Are you alright?"

"Yes, I''m fine." Jean immediately smiled and tried to look fine. She rubbed her own cheeks to remove

any residue of tears and gazed at him in confusion.

When she met himst time in the club, she had worn a lot of makeup as she wanted to keep Maranda

''Maybe he didn''t recognize me, and is probably helping a stranger, '' she told herself.

While Jean internally guessed whether he had recognized her or not, Calvin broke into aughter.

"Don''t be cranky. I know that you are Jean Wen."

"How did you recognize me?" Jean asked shocked.

"Can you guess?" Without directly answering her question, Calvin replied obscurely.

With her eyebrows knitted, Jean started thinking, ''How can I guess that?''
