    He fired away several questions at Lawrence at once. Amanda Wang who sat next to him reminded


    him in a low voice, "Sshh! Don''t nag him! You will know soon enough."

    "Come on! I basically know all Lawrence''s friends. I am curious to know who it is!" Mike retorted.


    "That''s enough! The auction has begun," Lawrence butted in, interrupting their chatter. He wasn''t sure


    if the woman was her. But the familiar figure reminded him of her.


    He clearly remembered that she had told him she would spend the rest of her life abroad. ''It is not


    possible for her to be here. I must have mistaken someone else for her. But the silhouette looks like


    her. Should I believe my eyes?'' his mind was a confused mess.


    "The first item to be sold is..." the auctioneer''s voice resounded over the microphone.


    All the guests focused on the item disyed on the stage. The buyers called out loudly as they raised


    their bid cards.


    An hour passed and the very item had been sold. Melisa Ouyang spent three hundred thousand for the


    ne.


    "Next up is ourst item- a pearl ne from the BD Group. The bidding begins at 100, 000," the


    auctioneer dered.


    The minute Mike heard this name, his expression changed. He looked at Lawrence and asked,


    "Lawrence, does..."


    "Shut up!" Lawrence silenced Mike with a sharp rebuke.


    Greg and the others sitting at the table looked inquisitively at Lawrence and Mike. ''What''s wrong with


    BD Investment Group? Why did Mike and Lawrence both overreact at this item?'' they wondered.


    "What''s going on? Can anyone tell me what is happening?" Alice asked, unable to hide her curiosity.


    Amanda Wang shook her head to signal ack of knowledge on the matter.


    Greg fixed his eyes on Ivy, expecting her to exin the situation. But she shook her head as well.


    "150, 000!" the bidding started.


    "200, 000!"


    "300, 000!"


    The bids kept increasing. Lawrence kept gazing at the back of the person he had spotted. He was


    certain that it was indeed the girl he knew and she was back.


    The bidding stopped at 800, 000 and no further additions were made to the price.


    "800, 000….. going once, going twice. Sold for 800, 000..."


    The auctioneer was interrupted before he could finish his words.


    Lawrence raised his bid card and calmly called out, "Five million."


    The deep silence engulfed the hall. Every person in the hall gaped at Lawrence with shock, particrly


    his friends.


    "Have you lost your mind, Lawrence? You are bidding five million for a pearl ne?" Alice


    eximed in shock. Her erged eyes conveyed her shock reaction. She coudn''t believe that


    Lawrence had bid so high. ''Even if he had bid one million, no one would have been able to outbid him.


    But he has directly bid 5 million which is totally unnecessary, '' she thought in confusion.


    "The bidder is Lawrence Chu. He has offered five million. Wow!" one guest cried out as he recognized


    Lawrence.


    "He is so generous! He is willing to spend such arge sum of money on a ne," another

    "Only the Chu family can pay so much. They are beyond rich!"


    "I agree. Looks like Lawrence badly wants to own this ne."


    The whispers grew and became louder with every passing second as people craned their neck to spot


    Lawrence. Lawrence did not pay any attention to the people or their whispers.


    When the auctioneer invited the buyer to the stage, Lawrence stood up and walked to the stage. The


    crowd apuded loudly and enthusiastically.


    Once Lawrence reached the stage he was able to clearly see the girl. ''It''s her. It is Anna Dou. I look


    forward to meeting her. She has not changed at all over the years and looks the same, '' he excitedly


    thought.


    Lawrence epted the ne and held tightly onto it. He carefully inspected it. He was very sure


    that it was the same one that he had bought at 500, 000 abroad and given to Anna. Now he had paid


    five million to buy it back. He hoped that this time around he could keep her with it.


    Taking the microphone, Lawrence fixed his eyes on Anna Dou. He announced very firmly, "Thank you. I


    have bought this for a very special person."


    He then gracefully walked off the stage. Instead of returning to his seat, he walked over to Anna.


    The crowd looked at Lawrence in bewilderment and amazement. ''What is he going to do? He is a rich


    and powerful man and is radiating a thrilling energy, '' they mulled. He had captured the interest of every


    soul present there at the time.


    Anna was ovee with thrill and rapture as she watched Lawrence approaching her. ''So many years


    have passed, but he has not forgotten me or our past. He remembers the ne and everything


    rted to it, '' she blushed.


    Lawrence paused in front of her. He scrutinized her from head to toe as if trying to see if his memory of


    her every feature was urate.


    Anna Dou rose elegantly from her seat. "How are you Lawrence? It has been many years and now we


    meet again," she greeted with a charming smile.


    "Why didn''t you inform me of your return?" Lawrence asked in a soft voice.


    "I wanted to give you a surprise," Anna Dou replied with a brilliant smile. "So, are you surprised to see


    me?"


    "Yes. It is a big surprise. I had to give you the same gift twice," Lawrence replied nonchntly. He had


    eyes only for Anna. He blocked out everything else around him and didn''t care much for what others


    were thinking about his behaviour.


    "I was wondering if you would recognize the ne?" Anna said with a sweet smile.


    Lawrence held up the ne and said, "When I gave it you, I told you that it was yours forever


    because you were the one I wanted to cherish. You are the true owner of this ne."
