Chapter 606 An Unexpected Discovery (Part Four)

"Dan Huo? Wait, isn''t that the kid whose dad is in the real estate business?" Mike asked. Even though

Dan Huo wasn''t his ssmate, Mike knew him. He had heard that Dan Huo was bossy.

"Yes, his dad is," answered Jason, adding,"When I saw them chatting, Reba looked uneasy."

Lawrence stayed silent throughout their conversation. He hadn''t heard any rumors about the event or

    about Dan Huo.

"Actually Lawrence..." Ben started nervously and abruptly stopped topose himself before he

continued in an even tone,"When we started our first year of middle school, a friend told me Dan was

pursuing Reba, but she rejected him. No one brings it up. You didn''t meet or even talk to Reba

until third year, so, I guess you don''t know much about her life before then, do you?"

All the boys, including Mike, fell into silence. Mike sat very still, lost into spection, ''I know everything

there is to know about Lawrence. Since we''ve attended middle school, he''s gotten love letters daily. He

never read any of those letters or talked to the girls in the ss. In the third year, while he was on duty

though, he identally got Reba''s white sneakers dirty. They started talking then and became

friends. Since they''ve been friends for a long time, Lawrence should know something. Except he didn''t

    know about Reba''s past.''

"What else do you know about her past?" Lawrence asked abruptly.

The other three boys stared at one another, not sure how to start.

"If you consider me your friend, tell me everything you know!" ordered Lawrence while he reasoned

silently, ''It doesn''t matter what else they tell me. I''m already pretty pissed off.''

Mike knew he had to tell Lawrence what he learned about Reba. But, he wanted the others to talk

    first.

"Okay, tell what you know," Mike told the other boys.

"Well, I heard when Reba was a freshman she spent a lot of time with a boy that was in his second

year. She would go over to his ce and let him help her with her studies every weekend. I don''t know

what else they did at that fellow''s house," Jason shared, as he nced at Lawrence before he went

on,"When we started the second year, there was a rumor that his parents learned about his rtionship

with Reba and transferred him to another school."

Ben jumped in with,"Some girls told me Reba lived in poverty, and she needed money, so..." He

knew that Lawrence had been nice to Reba, but he didn''t know that Lawrence had given her

money. "Perhaps, she agreed to date him for money," he added.

"Impossible! Our school is the most exclusive one in the city! If she were poor, how would she be able

to afford the tuition fee? It''s easy getting into other middle schools. But, only a few high-born or wealthy

kids can afford our school. Children from ordinary families don''t stand a chance getting in here," one of

    the boys retorted.

"There''s one thing you don''t know though. Reba doesn''t have a father," another boy broke in,"Well,

technically, it would be that she doesn''t know who her father is, I guess."

With that bit of information, the boys knew Reba''s true colors.

It was as if Lawrence had been walloped in the gut. Sitting there, he contemted what he knew,

''Reba always struck me as such an innocent girl though. Her long curved eyshes, the way her

eyes narrow into a line and two little dimples appear on her cheeks all make her look so lovely when

    she smiles.''

"Then, she must have some sort of connection so she could attend our school," Ben deduced.

"I agree. I''ve heard the gossip, that some girls are attending this school who are not highborndies,

and struggled to get in. They just want to know some rich or influential friends who might be helpful to

their life in the future," acknowledged Jason as he nodded.

Mike had already guessed Reba''s true colors, and the other boys'' inputs only confirmed them. ''I

heard some girls gossiping about Reba, and calling her ill-bred. Is it true?'' he pondered.

"Lawrence, even though you treat her well, you shouldn''t overtly announce your rtionship. I would

advise you to stay away from her. She isn''t good for you," suggested Jason giving Lawrence a look. ''I

said that for his sake. He has a bright future ahead. His father is the CEO of the JC Group, one of the

premierpanies in the city. He has two uncles, one owns the JS Group, and the other is the head of

the H King Group, both of which are bigpanies here. As a genuine highborn person, Lawrence has

a magnificent future waiting for him. His parents might even arrange a marriage for him. A girl like

Reba doesn''t deserve him, '' he spected.

"I agree. Reba could affect Lawrence''s future, then Lawrence would be poor," said Ben.

"Shut up! All of you, that''s enough!" Mike snapped, ending the discussion. Then, he told the two other

boys,"It''ste, and you should head home. See you guys tomorrow at school!"

"Okay, goodbye!" Jason agreed, understanding Mike''s purpose immediately. He and Ben picked up

    their school bags.

"Alright then we''re leaving now. You two get home early," Ben said.

"I will. Bye!" Mike returned as he waved his hand.

After the others were gone, Lawrence and Mike were alone on the empty court.

Things were quiet in the park at night. Mike looked over at Lawrence sitting silently with a troubled

expression, but he wasn''t sure how tofort his friend.

"Lawrence, you shouldn''t take what they said too seriously. After all, you..." before Mike could finish,

    Lawrence cut him off.

"Mike, I want you to answer one question for me," Lawrence asserted.

    "Okay, what?" Mike asked.

"Did you tell Reba about my parents'' trip to Hong Kong?" asked Lawrence.

"No, I didn''t tell her," replied Mike as he shook his head. "I know you don''t want other people knowing

your personal affairs, so I didn''t tell anyone about it."

He added,"Even though you two are together a lot, and I poke fun of you two, your rtionship isn''t

intimate enough for me to be able to tell her your private matters. You haven''t even told anyone that

    she''s your girlfriend."

Lawrence remained silent for a few minutes, then he got up, grabbed his backpack and as he headed

home he called over his shoulder to Mike,"Bye!"

"Hey wait, you''re leaving now?" asked Mike as he sat there dumbfounded staring at Lawrence''s back.

''He is such an efficient person, '' he mused.

It wasn''t long before Lawrence was home. When he went into the living room, he saw Violet Chu

    watching a cartoon with Lily.
