    Chapter 127

Brett''s way of coaxing people was like himforting a little kitten or puppy. To him, Izabe''s

furious rage was as insignificant as a puff of air.

"Do you think I''m ying with you?"

"Alright, alright, you''re not ying, let''s eat. If you don''t like donuts, it''s noted. I won''t buy it for you

anymore." He only bought it because he thought Izabe would love it.

Brett didn''t insist on taking Izabe to watch the movie. She didn''t feel well and wanted to nap after

the meal, so he took her home.

As soon as she got in the car, she leaned against the seat and closed her eyes. Her excessive

sleepiness was due to the medication prescribed by the psychiatrist. The medicine was not good for

her body if taken too much, but she couldn''t control her condition without it, so she had to gradually

    reduce her dosage.

When they got home, she didn''t wake up. Brett wanted to carry her inside, but as soon as his

fingers touched her waist, she woke up.

It was like a conditioned reflex. She stared at him with a pair of wary eyes. In Izabe''s eyes, Brett

saw various expressions, such as fear, terror, indifference, vignce, and confusion, but he couldn''t

find the joy that used to be the most abundant. Brett was dumbfounded when she red at him,

and a feeling of emptiness overwhelmed him, like he was punched in the face.

"I saw you sleeping soundly, so I thought I would carry you up."

Izabe didn''t appreciate his gesture. She got off the car, wobbling to open the back door to get her

    stuff.

Having slept in the same position all the way, her body ached, especially her neck. When she tilted

her head back, she could hear a clicking sound.

By the time Brett parked the car in the garage, Izabe had already taken out the key, opened the

door, and went straight to the bedroom on the second floor. She took out the gifts one by one.

None of them were expensive, but the effort put into them by the kids was heartfelt. What''s more, it

was her first time receiving so many gifts.

The moreplex handicrafts were made by a group of kids working together. Izabe took out a

clear bottle filled with colorful stars made of folded stic tubes. She shook the bottle and saw a

row of names at the bottom of it.

Each gift had the names of the kids, meaning that they made them with their own hands.

Izabe felt a warmth in her heart. She put the gifts one by one in the drawer below the cab. At

the bottom of the bag, she found a pair of exquisitely designed "donut" earrings.

Izabe took them out and saw the name "Ryker" written on the bottom of the box.

It was supposed to be an ordinary name that left her at a total loss, as if a big hand was gripping her

    heart and tightening it slowly.

If it were a month ago, Izabe would never believe that she could be so attached to a big, retarded

guy she had only met once.

Brett hired a maid named Jennifer to help Izabe. Jennifer was 23 years old, recently graduated

from college, and had been independent since young. There was nothing she couldn''t do. She had

initially gone to the Windham Group for a secretary interview, but Liam brought her here to be a

maid. This job was a radical change and a waste of her talent.

"What did Liam do to trick you intoing here and being a maid?" Izabe couldn''t think of any

reasonable exnation for a college graduate toe here and be a maid.

Jennifer didn''t seem to mind and replied, "What else could it be? It''s the money. I can make double

sry than my previous job just by working here as a maid."

Brett hired a skilled maid, not only because she could cook and clean but also to help Izabe fight

    off boredom.

Jennifer quickly learned Izabe''s taste and food preferences as she prepared food ording to the

    hospital''s nutritious recipes.

"Ms. Salotti, I really think President Windham is treating you well. There were rumors that President

Windham had someone else in his heart and that he married you only for the sake of a marriage

alliance. But I don''t think that''s the case."

Izabe was flipping through a book without focusing on anything. Upon hearing Jennifer''s words,

her fingers twitched, "what is it?"

    Content (C) N?v/elDra/ma.Org.

Jennifer replied, "I mean, if he didn''t love you, he would have divorced you. I''ve been here for a few

days, and I can tell President Windham is very considerate of you. He asks me about your daily

activities and has even asked for romantic dating spots for couples, intending to take you out for a

    change of mood."

Jennifer could see that Brett had feelings for Izabe, but Izabe didn''t seem to like Brett as much

    as the inte had said.

Upon hearing Jennifer''s words, Izabe softly replied, "Is this what you think love is? Being nice to

    someone?"

Her voice was very light, almost emotionless, with her eyes half-closed, conveying an eerily

    peaceful expression.

Jennifer hesitated and then nodded, "Isn''t it?"

Izabe snorted coldly, her voice full of disdain and mockery. "Do you know why he hired you?"

"Because you''re sick, President Windham hired me to take care of you, keep youpany, and

encourage you to eat and take your meds."

Izabe asked again, "Do you know how I got sick?"

Jennifer didn''t answer, she didn''t know about the incident. She had only read about Izabe''s illness

online but didn''t ask for more details, as mental illness wasn''t a good topic.

Izabe continued, "I was seven weeks pregnant when Brett pushed me down a flight of stairs,

causing me to miscarry. He then shamelessly discussed with another woman in front of me at the

hospital how many kids I should have for adoption, making me feel worse than a dog!"

"So that''s how it happened," Jennifer said in disbelief, her ears ringing.

Izabe put down her book, "So don''t you dare say anything nice about him to me. It will only make

me feel more sick of him!"
