    Bailey''s pov


    Her eyes are glued to Kaleb and me, especially on his hand. I know this looked rather intimate so I


    had no idea how to exin this.


    Good thing Kaleb had quick thinking. " I think I got rid of it." he uttered loud enough for Mira to hear


    while brushing his hand down my back as though there was something there that shouldn''t have


    been.


    He takes a step back, looking over at his sister. " What are you doing here?" He questioned her,


    clearly want to stray her thoughts away from where it had drifted off to.


    Mira bounced her gaze between us, the tilt of usation on her face as she takes a step forward. "


    The better question is why were you two in that position?"


    My stomach twisted and I know I may have toe up with an excuse or confess. But I couldn''t. I


    couldn''t bring myself to, fearing that this would be the end of our friendship.


    " There was a tiny spider on her clothes, I was simply getting it off," Kaleb shrugged, strutting


    forward and acting neutral. I am jealous of how cool and calm he could be and I wish I could at least


    possess some of that for myself at the moment.


    Mira doesn''t look convinced but she didn''t have time to question him further as he opened the door


    to leave. " I''ll drop you both home,e on." He said over his shoulder just before he closed the


    door.


    Mira swept her gaze back to mine after her brother close the door behind him, her brows are still


    drawn and she''s eyeing me firmly.


    " Why was my brother so close to you Bailey?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. Mira was not


    foolish and I knew there was a high chance she didn''t believe Kaleb''s words.


    I smiled awkwardly. " There was a spider on my clothes, he was just getting it."


    Mira''s eyes narrowed and I could almost see the gears turning in her head. I prayed she''d believe


    me but I knew she didn''t.


    "A spider?" she repeated, skepticism evident in her tone. She hums."Seems like an odd excuse."


    I bit my lip, desperately searching for a more believable exnation. I racked my head until it


    pounded. "Yeah, it was a big one. You know how I hate crawly things and Kaleb know''s as well. he


    was just being good for once and helping me."


    She studied me for a moment, and I could tell she wasn''t entirely convinced. But perhaps God was


    finally back on my side because she sighed and nod.


    "Alright, if you say so," she finally epted. "But you two looked like you were caught in a moment


    or something. Are you sure there''s nothing going on between you and my brother Bailey?"


    I sucked in a breath and clenched my fists. The seconds of silence that tick by is convincing her of


    her suspicion and I knew I had to answer before it was toote.


    " God no Mira. Kaleb and me," I pushed and pursed my lips while looking away so she would not


    see the guilt in my eyes. " Kaleb could be thest guy on earth and I''d never think of being with


    him."


    The lie on my tongue tasted bitter and I wished the ground would open up and swallow me whole


    because I deserve my own taste of hell after lying to the one person I shouldn''t.


    " I hope you''re not lying to me Bailey," Mira said, drawing my attention back to her. My gut twisted


    because I knew the lies would make things so much worse when I confess. She eyed me with a


    mixture of doubt and concern but nod. " As long as you don''t be with him behind my back I''m good."

    Those lies will bite me in the ass that I know for certain.


    She nod and folded her arms. " So what happened?"


    " Huh?" I''mpletely lost.


    She raised a brow. " With Kaleb and Stefan? What happened? Did you find out what happened


    between them to cause this fight?"


    "Oh." I muttered and shrugged. " You''d have to ask him this yourself Mira, I don''t think it''s my thing


    to tell."


    I just hope Kaleb cane up with something that could further remove her suspicion on us.


    Mira frowned. " Is it that bad? I saw Stefan''s face when I came here, he didn''t look too good. Thank


    God dad didn''t notice when he dropped me off."


    To be honest, she was right. Kaleb did a number on Stefan''s face and I felt guilty about it. I winced.


    " I think they''ll get over whatever the situation is between them."


    Mira sighed and dropped her hands at her sides. " My brother can be an ass but I have never seen


    him fight with his friends. He loves them like brothers. It''s so strange they fought. I will admit, I am


    worried about him."


    My gaze soften and I walked over to her. " I don''t think you should worry about him Mirabe." I


    whispered. " Whatever happened between them I am sure they are on their way of fixing it."


    She nod and let out a breath. " He''s acting strange for these pass few days, like not like himself. Did


    I tell you Juliet stormed out of the house with tears in her eyes? Apparently Kaleb turned her down.


    Dad found him crashed out on the couch so he didn''t even sleep in his room beside her."


    I straightened, now more attentive. " He did?"


    She nod, her brows joining in a frown of confusion. " He told dad she slept over because she was


    passed out drunk. Mom thought he got back together with her but he denied. And what''s crazy is


    that I believe him."


    " Oh." I whispered.


    " I don''t know what''s going on with him Bailey, but hopefully he is changing for the better." She


    uttered sounding worried.


    The door reopens just as I was about to say something to her and Kaleb pokes his head in. He


    looked at his sister then me, his eyes void of emotion. " Are you twoing or not? Or are you


    going to keep discussing how awful I am and how I''d be thest guy on earth you''d ever be with?"
