“Aglio Olio tuna is ready!” Ang suddenly appeared with two tes of spaghetti in her hands.
“Thanks, Mom! I’ll get the drinks!” shouted Sean, quickly putting out his cigarette and heading to the kitchen, leaving Reba still in shock from what she had just heard. “Becky, all good?” Ang asked as she ced the two tes of spaghetti on the table.
Reba nodded awkwardly. “Thanks, Ang, she said sincerely. She pulled out a chair and sat down, hoping Ang would go back inside so she could ask Sean about his earlier statement. She felt uneasy, wondering if Sean had other intentions towards her even though they had just met.
“Mom, do you want a drink too?” Sean asked, holding two sses of cold water.
“No. I’ll go back to the kitchen, my bread will be ready soon. You guys enjoy your meal!” Ang said. She patted Sean’s shoulder lightly and went back inside.
Sean pulled out a chair in front of Reba and sat down casually as if there hadn’t been an awkward conversation between them before.
Reba cleared her throat softly, “Um, about what you said earlier-
“I was just joking, sorry I made you ufortable, Sean interrupted with a grimace.
Reba sighed in relief. She was about to take a bite of her spaghetti when Sean suddenly said, “But I was serious about be dramatic idea.”
“What?” Reba frowned in confusion.
“This is just a casual conversation between friends, okay? So don’t be too tense and eat your spaghetti before Lily wakes up,” Sean said, shoveling spaghetti into his mouth.
“Do you mean pretending to get married again and changing Lily’sst name?” Reba asked, hesitantly taking a bite of her spaghetti.

Sean nodded, “I believe it would stabilize your situation without needing to hide from the world. Doesn’t Lily deserve a normal life? You’re fortunate that Lily is still a baby and doesn’t understand what’s happening right now; at least she won’t have to endure deep trauma when she grows up,” he said earnestly, despite eating. His face was quite serious as he spoke.

Sean’s words struck a chord with Reba. Not because she was offended, but because she felt guilty for making Lily a victim of her selfishness.
“Well, I just can’t imagine how Harvey will react when he hears that I’ve remarried,” Reba muttered tly.
Sean sighed deeply. “Becky, if he truly loved you, he wouldn’t let you and Lily go through all this alone. Even if he was under his mother’s threat, he should at least ensure you went to a safe ce, but he did nothing. So my advice is, try to think more logically for Lily’s sake.”
“I don’t know, I’ll think about itter, Reba said, unable to refute because all of Sean’s words sounded very true.
“Are you going back to the clinic tomorrow?” Reba asked, trying to change the topic.
“Of course not, Lily needs my supervision. Besides, there are plenty of doctors on duty there, the clinic will be fine without me,” Sean replied lightly.
“I’ve really burdened you and your mom, I’m sorry,” Reba said, feeling guilty.
“No, don’t be sorry,” Sean responded, shaking his head. Just as Reba finished her dinner, the sound of Lily crying came from the baby monitor.
“She’s awake, I’ll give her milk and put her to sleep. Good night,” Reba said, getting up from her seat. “Leave the tes, I’ll clean upter, just go see Lily!” Sean called out as Reba was about to clear the table.
“Thanks,” Reba said, hurrying inside and running up the stairs to the guest room that had be her temporary room.
That night, after feeding Lily, Reba sat in deep thought, reflecting on Sean’s words that rang so true. I’m not guilty, why should I hide?‘ she pondered. She struggled to get a good night’s sleep as Lily woke up and cried several times.
The next morning, Reba was jolted awake by a loud knocking on her door. Reflexively, she jumped up and opened it quickly. “Sean?”
“I heard Lily crying on the baby monitor in my room for almost five minutes. Is everything okay?” Sean asked, his face full of concern.
Reba was shocked to realize Lily was crying loudly. “Oh God! I slept so soundly, I didn’t even hear her crying. Stupid me!” she eximed, berating herself. She quickly

ran to the phototherapy box and lifted Lily out.
Tm sorry, baby, I’m so sorry,” she said, half–crying.
“I’ll make her a bottle,” Sean said, swiftly grabbing a bottle from the table.
“Thanks, Sean, Reba said sincerely. “If you hadn’t knocked on my door, I might still be sleeping soundly. I’m really a bad mother,” she rambled, unable to hold back her
tears.
Sean gently rubbed her shoulder. “You must be exhausted, this ismon for new mothers. It’s very normal, so don’t me yourself,” he said, handing the bottle to Reba.
“I’lle back to take blood from Lily’s heel to check her bilirubin levels,” Sean said before stepping out of the room.
Reba slumped onto the sofa. “I’m sorry, baby, mommy’s really sorry,” she said, looking at Lily’s face with guilt.
After feeding Lily and changing her diaper, Reba quickly cleaned herself in the bathroom and changed into a dress Ang had lent her. A few minutester, Sean returned with a box of equipment in his hand.
“I’ll take a little blood from her heel, don’t worry, I’m quite skilled,” Sean said, half- joking. Reba grimaced, standing a bit away from Sean and Lily because she couldn’t bear to see her tiny baby pricked by a needle.
She watched Sean skillfully draw blood from Lily’s heel without making her cry, and reflexively pped her hands. “Wow, you really are an expert!”
Sean snorted withughter, cing Lily’s blood sample into a tube and sealing it tightly in a box. “I’ll send this to the clinic,” Sean said, walking toward the door.
Reba watched Sean’s back and suddenly shouted, “Sean!”
Sean stopped and turned to look at Reba curiously. “Yeah?”
Reba took a deep breath, clenching her hands, trying to convince herself of what she was abour
