    Chapter 1965 Sheryl Grew Despondent

Besides, Vicky would do whatever Charles asked her to do, as long as he stayed beside her and never

    mentioned any other woman''s name.

"Hmm, I''m your good girl!" Vicky sweetly said as she looked at Charles, after throwing a tantrum at him.

"Alright, then you''d better get some sleep." A few minutester, Vicky finally dozed off. Charles rxed

a lot, seeing Vicky asleep, as that meant he could get going.

"President Lu, the woman is really crazy. I can''t handle her anymore!" David confessed to Charles,

feelingpletely helpless in his task. He wished Charles would assign him any job other than

standing guard and interacting with this insane woman twenty-four-seven.

"David, who else do you think would be a better person to take this assignment?" Charles asked,

responding to hisint. He knew for a fact that there was no other suitable person for this task

    than David.

It would be devastating for him if someone like Vicky would be used by a conniving one.

David sighed, then replied, "Alright, I understand. President Lu, just forget what I''ve said. Please, go

back home and get some rest," Staring at his boss, David could see clearly through Charles''s eyes. He

felt so guilty that he did not dare to continue expressing hisint. All he had to do was to pay his

due diligence and guard the assignment.

"Okay. I wille and visit again tomorrow," Charles confirmed, tapping David''s left shoulder before

    finally leaving the room.

Actually, Charles had been busy contacting doctors overseas, hoping any one of those specialists

would have a cure for Vicky. He did not n on living this way for the rest of his life.

    Meanwhile, at Sheryl''s home

rk had been in a heavy mood since Joan left. He sat on the couch, his brows furrowed as he stared

at the telephone on top of the side table. Shirley, on the other hand, was sitting on the floor with a tea

setid before her. Being busy setting up her toys, she failed to realize that his brother was not in the

mood to y at the moment.

"rk, what are you thinking of?" she finally called to him, while raising her little teapot. "Pleasee

and y with me!" Shirley waited for her brother''s response, but he sat there motionless.

"I don''t want to y right now. Go ahead and y by yourself," rk answered, finally picking up the

phone receiver, and deciding to call I. He watched as Shirley continued ying on her own.

rk had always been more sensitive than Shirley. He was more observant, so he could easily tell

there was a strange atmosphere at home today. Aside from his mother, he knew that there was no

other person to ask but I.

The phone didn''t even finished ringing, as I was quite excited to receive a phone call from rk.

"Where are you, Auntie I?" rk asked carefully, his voice low enough to not draw Shirley''s

    attention.

The sound of rk''s tender voice sounded like magic in I''s ear as if it caressed her heart, making

her feel rxed. I could not help but smile as they carried on with the conversation, "I am on my way

    there. What''s up, rk?"

"Mummy locked herself in the bedroom after she returned. She did not y with me or my sister as

usual. Auntie I, do you know what is wrong with mummy?" rk couldn''t help sounding worried.

I held her breath as she listened to rk''s question. This boy was indeed as observant as Sher had

    always told her.

"Don''t worry about it, rk. Mummy is alright. Nothing is wrong with her. She is just too tired, so..." I

replied, not wanting to tell rk the truth. After all, he was just a kid. It was not something he should be

burdened with. He should be ying now and enjoying his youth.

"You are lying! I have seen Mummy tired before. But she''s never acted this way before. Something is

definitely wrong this time, Auntie I. Why are you lying to me?" rk bit his lips, feeling frustrated.

Everybody kept telling him that Sheryl was alright. But rk could feel that something serious must

have happened. Hearing I lied to him just now, made him believe that something was really off.

Hearing rk''s rebuttal, I was surprised. She had never expected that the little boy could be so

    smart to discern her lie.

Hearing how rk insisted on getting to the bottom of the matter, I could not help but sigh. "rk,

my good boy, Auntie will tell you the truth. But you have to promise Auntie that you will not cry or feel

    bad about it, okay?"

"Okay! I promise!" nodding, rk replied in a tender voice.

"Actually, it is not because mummy is too tired. She happened to have a quarrel with your daddy. So,

mummy is in a bad mood right now. But rk, you don''t need to worry about mummy. She will get

better tomorrow, for sure. So, please, don''t worry..." Knowing that the little boy could see through her

lies, I tried to only reveal a little bit of the facts to rk.

"Auntie I, did my daddy and mummy have a row?" rk cried out the moment he heard the news,

his face turning pale as tears started to stream down from his eyes.

I knew she was in great trouble as she heard rk''s sobs.

"rk, my dear, please don''t cry. Everything is going to be alright. It is normal for two adults to quarrel

    with each other. It happens!"

"But it is different. Mummy has been acting strange today..." rk tried to say in between sobs, and his

tears were still welling up in his eyes.

I felt speechless. For a moment, she did not know what to say tofort rk. Suddenly, an idea

struck her like lightning, making her ask quickly, "rk, are you at home right now?"

"Yes. School finished earlier today because tomorrow is the weekend."

"Alright, dear, then please wait for me at home. I will be there shortly." I hung up afterwards.

rk was quite obedient to I''s advice. As soon as the line went dead, he ced the receiver back

on its cradle and went to y with his sister.

I felt relieved as she had finally decided where to go.

She arrived at Sheryl''s home not long after. Standing outside the door, she pressed the doorbell and

    waited.

Hearing that someone was at the door, Joan immediately went to check out who was outside.

Joan felt relieved upon seeing I as soon as she opened the door, and she greeted her warmly,

"Good afternoon." I wasted no time. "Good afternoon to you, Joan! Where''s Sheryl?" Joan pointed to

Sheryl''s bedroom upstairs as she talked to I in a low voice, "Miss Xia has locked herself in the

    bedroom since she came back."

"Don''t worry, Joan. I''m sure, Sher will be alright!"

"Auntie I, you are here!" Shirley greeted I joyfully as she was ying on the carousel.

rk, who was also inside, saw Iing in. He hurriedly ran over to meet her, raising his head to

look at her face in a serious manner.

"Hello, rk, why are you still looking so sad? Didn''t Auntie tell you that everything will be alright?

Mummy and Daddy will all be okay!" Crouching down, I watched rk with a sincere expression.

Moved by I''s sincere expression, rk nodded his head, confirming his trust in her. Then he said,

"Auntie I, please go upstairs and check how Mummy is doing. She''s making us worried."

"Alright, then I''m going up to see her now. Why don''t you y in the living room with your sister for

now?" I suggested, looking at the two kids with tenderness.

They both nodded sweetly at her, so she walked slowly towards the staircase that led to the second

    floor.

I stood in front of Sheryl''s bedroom. She had not even stepped into the room yet, but she could

already feel the depressive atmosphere from behind the closed door. After taking a deep breath, I

knocked on the door and said, "Sher, it is me!"

I waited but Sheryl didn''t respond to her call. She came closer to the door and advised, "Sher, the

two kids are worrying about you. Can you please let me in?" I turned back to look downstairs at the

kids, worried they might be watching her now.

Suddenly, the door opened, and Sheryl stood beside it, in a woeful expression, gesturing for I to

    "What brings you here today?"

"Don''t you see? I''m worried about you. How do you feel?" I looked at Sheryl from head to toe,

realizing that Sheryl had really been asleep just now since her clothes were a bit disheveled.

"I''m alright. I had a headache a while ago, so Iid down and took a nap. What did you say about the

children?" Holding back her broken heart, Sheryl forced herself to focus on the conversation with I.

"You locked yourself in the room. The two kids were worried about you, so rk called me up. When

are you ready to move on?" I was never good atforting other people. To her, there was no point

in crying over spilled milk. Since you could not change the fact of the loss, why would you bother to be

    depressed about it?
