Chapter 1653 Assisting The Investigation
After walking out, Sheryl saw Cora rubbing her hands together nervously.
Cora''s demeanor made Sheryl feel sorry for her.
In fact, Cora was helpless when it came to how her brother acted.
"Cora, nobody needs to take the responsibility for the ident. As long as your brother can move on,
Nick and Cassie won''t get him in trouble. You have to make sure that your brother won''t disturb
Cassie''s life anymore though." Sheryl knew Nick well. He was not the kind of person who would haggle
with anything.
But Nick cared so much about Cassie. If somebody hurt her on purpose, Nick would never let it go.
Sheryl knew that it was different this time because the other party to the conflict was Jordan--a
shameless man. She had decided for Nick and wanted to make concessions to avoid further trouble.
She hoped that everything would be alright in the end.
"Hmm, Sher, don''t worry. My brother truly won''t disturb Cassie anymore."
"That''s all right then. I am going to check on Charles. You stay with Cassie." Tofort her, Sheryl
patted Cora''s shoulder and then walked toward Charles'' room.
When Sheryl arrived, the doctor that was assigned to Charles was examining him in a routine check-
up.
"Doctor, when will Charles wake up?" Sheryl saw the doctor and couldn''t help asking her usual
question.
The doctor was surprised at hearing Sheryl''s question again, and nced at her before responding,
"Don''t you know? Charles is going to wake up soon, any day in fact. Perhaps he will wake up in the
next second."
"Doctor, what did you say now? Are you joking?" Sheryl looked at the doctor with wide and doubtful
eyes. She thought she must be dreaming.
"As a doctor, how could I tease a patient''s family like that?" The doctor was amused by Sheryl''s
reaction.
It appeared that she had known nothing about the update.
When the doctor left and the room became silent again, Sheryl finally came to her senses.
"Charles, are you really going to wake up?" Sheryl covered her mouth and looked at Charles anxiously
as she felt a surge of emotion.
After she had waited and spoken to him for so long, Charles was finally going to wake up.
Although Sheryl usually told herself several times every day that Charles could wake up soon, there
was nothing like being told that it would happen by a doctor. The doctor said that Charles was going to
wake up. It was true, not just a dream she was using to fool herself!
Sheryl realized that Melissa and Le must have known about it earlier, but they didn''t tell her.
She held Charles'' hand as she cried, but there was a smile on her face.
She smiled like a child and said, "Charles, as long as you wake up soon, I will forgive you for
everything. I can forget what happened between you and Le and I won''t me you anymore. As
soon as you wake up, we will be together like before, okay?"
One would never understand the pain of losing somebody if they didn''t experience it themselves.
Sheryl had experienced it, so she knew that nothing was as important to her as Charles. She just
wanted him to be with her.
Looking at Charles'' peaceful face, she thought of the past and everything that had happened to them. It
felt as if it had all happened only yesterday.
Before they had their two kids, Sheryl and Charles had often quarreled, but every time it happened,
Charles would bear with her, yet she would lose her temper every time. After the fight was over
between them, they would usually make up by getting intimate.
When Sheryl thought of the reason they had gotten married, she couldn''t helpughing.
They couldn''t escape from a destiny decided for them by God. Something embarrassing like a
surrogate marriage could be a good deed in the long run. Wasn''t it enough to prove that she was
lucky?
In the beginning, Charles had extreme notoriety, and she was unwilling to marry him. She had no
choice in the long run, and then reality forced her to marry him.
Fortunately, she hadn''t insisted on going against the marriage. If she had, then she wouldn''t have had
two lovely babies with him.
"Charles, do you remember the first time we met each other? On the first day of our marriage, you told
me to sign a divorce agreement. Don''t you think you should apologize to me?" As Sheryl thought of the
past, the smile on her face grew bigger. It seemed that even if the past had been unendurable,
because of Charles'' existence, everything became a happy burden. Sheryl didn''t hate it so much
anymore because her love for Charles had grown.
"Charles, you must have done many good deeds in your previous life for you to have been able to meet
me." While saying that, Sheryl felt shy.
She looked at Charles again and continued her monologue. "I think I must have done something as
bad as destroying a gxy to have gotten stuck with a bully like you. Fortunately, I think that you''re
now aware that you have strayed from the right path. In the future, both of us will never take the wrong
road again. We will live a good life together and take good care of our kids."
In Sheryl''s opinion, the past and future were inseparably intertwined.
Of course, she had only one requirement. No matter what happened, she wanted Charles to stay with
her.
"Charles, I lied to the kids once. You said that no matter what happens, we can''t lie to the kids. Now,
because of you, I have broken my promise for once. So, you have to wake up soon and take rk and
Shirley to y at the funfair. Do you understand?" Sheryl gripped Charles'' hand and kissed the back of
it, hoping that he could hear her voice.

At the gate of the hospital, Melissa had returned.
Melissa drove slower than Le usually did, so she had set out earlier, but didn''t arrive until Le did
too. They reached the hospital at almost the same time.
Seeing that Melissa had walked quickly into the hospital, Le prepared to follow and watch things y
out, but Nick suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Don''t you know that nobody can stand in my way?" Le looked Nick up and down before speaking.
"Sir, this is Le. She is the attempted murderer." Nick had just checked the roof with the policemen
and had prepared to see them off, but Le arrived unexpectedly, so he couldn''t let her go.
This woman in front of him had almost killed Cassie and caused Charles to fall into aa. Nick had
wanted to beat this woman to death when it happened. If it was not for thew, he would have beaten
her many times.
"Why are you talking nonsense? Who did I try to murder?" Le heard Nick shouting and suddenly felt
guilty.
She couldn''t help but look around. Fortunately, it was noisy around her and nobody noticed what was
happening.
The two policemen Nick waved at walked over to her.
Le felt nervous. She looked around shiftily, not knowing what Nick really wanted to do.
"Miss, we are policemen. We suspect that you have something to do with an intentional injury case.
Please,e to the police station with us and assist in the investigation." The policeman showed his
badge and looked at Le expressionlessly.
Le looked at Nick''scent expression and became furious, but when she noticed the
policeman''s cold face, the arrogance on her face disappeared.
"Why do you suspect me? Do you have any evidence to prove that I have done something wrong?
Why should I go to the police station with you?" Le was not ignorant about thew. She knew that
she didn''t have to go to the police station if there wasn''t enough cause.
