Chapter 1623 Things Would Go Smoothly
Cora knew that she had to control herself, so she stopped Nick. She then said to Le, "This is your
the hospital!"
Le cast a negligent nced at Cora when she heard her warning. She didn''t believe that a nurse
would use her expertise to harm a person as she had threatened. The only exnation was that they
were pissed off and were making empty threats. When this thought urred to her, she felt relieved
andughed out loud. "Ask the police to take me if you can. Now, are you really threatening me?"
"Yes, we are. Le, you''d better realize that if you keep provoking us, we will tell Charles what you have
done. Which side do you think he will take—yours or ours?" Nick immediately understood Cora''s
intentions when he met her gaze. Instead of being angry with Le, they had decided to irritate her and
try to scare her off.
Le narrowed her eyes. She knew that Charles would, in all likelihood, believe what they said. Their
threat almost seeded in scaring her. Then, she thought that the next few days would be the worst
days ever for Sheryl and her friends, so Le realized there was nothing she should be worried about.
As long as she could make Sheryl be less important to Charles, then nothing would be able to
bother her.
"Okay, I''ll be waiting for that then. Do you really think you can make Charles disbelieve me? Because
I''m confident he will be on my side!" Le looked calm. Obviously, Cora''s threat hadn''t worked.
Cora couldn''t believe it. How could Le be so confident and not worried about them at all?
"Good, let''s wait and see then!" Nick said, and grabbing Cora''s hand made to leave.
Although it hadn''t worked out like they had meant it to, Nick knew that Le would restrain herself and
not dare to go near Cassie for a while at least.
After they had left, the smile on Le''s face suddenly disappeared.
She knew that if she failed to ensure Cassie stayed in aa forever, she wouldn''t have any other
choices to cover up what she had done. All she could do was pray that Cassie would never wake up.
Soon after that, Melissa and Nancy showed up.
It was Nancy''s first visit to Charles in the hospital. When she saw the tubes in Charles'' body, Nancy felt
her eyes tear up with sorrow and pity. However, she contained herself and did not let the tears run from
her eyes.

Charles had already been in the ICU for several days. Nancy had always been the one to take care of
Charles after he was born, so she was more than just his Nanny.
"Madam, when will Mr. Lu wake up?" Nancy asked, turning to look at Melissa.
Melissa shook her head impatiently and snipped Nancy by saying, "How would I know? I''m not a
doctor!"
Hearing Melissa''s reply, Nancy stopped talking and instead just watched Charles sadly.
Nancy had cooked some of Charles'' favorite dishes for him, but now she didn''t believe that he would
be able to eat them. Unnoticed, Le had begun to devour the dishes which Nancy had made.
"Nancy, to be honest, your food is way more delicious than the hospital food! I''m sick of eating that stuff
already!" Le praised Nancy''s cooking while eating.
Nancy merely looked at Le without any expression on her face. Then she turned back to look at
Charles.
After Le had finished, Nancy silently took the food containers and left.
Melissa and Le were still sitting there when the doctor came in to do the hourly checkup.
Noticing that the doctor was spending more time than usual examining Charles, Melissa was shocked
and became worried.
''Is it because Charles'' condition is worsening?'' she wondered to herself.
"Doctor, how is he? Is he getting worse?" Melissa anxiously asked the doctor the moment that he
walked out of the room.
The doctor took off his mask and replied, "Don''t worry, so far so good. He can be transferred to the
ordinary ward tomorrow!"
"Are you sure?!" Melissa didn''t know what to say. She was too excited when she heard the doctor''s
reply and looked at him with an overwhelmed expression on her face. She grabbed hold of the doctor''s
hand with her two palms.
The doctor felt awkward and gently removed his hand from between Melissa''s hands. "Yes, I''m sure.
Don''t worry so much."
"So, when will he wake up?" Melissa asked eagerly.
The doctor shook his head and said in a helpless tone, "It all depends on his recovery. I can''t tell you
when that will be."
Melissa suddenly felt powerless like a deted ball. The excitement was suddenly gone from her eyes.
It had been several days, but Charles was still in aa. Melissa had thought that he would wake up
soon since the doctor had told her not to worry, but the news turned out to be another disappointing
promise.
Not waiting for a response from Melissa, who was now sitting in a chair, the doctor nodded slightly at
Le and left.
Le didn''t feel any better about the situation. She knew that she had to be strong, and she had to
"Aunt Melissa, don''t worry. It''s a good sign that he will be transferred to an ordinary ward. I believe he
will wake up soon." Le softly patted Melissa on her back to sooth her as best she could.
Le''s words made Melissa feel less worried, although her mood was still not hearty. She sighed
helplessly. "What if he won''t be able to wake up?"
"Aunt Melissa, don''t be silly. Charles will wake up eventually." Melissa''s desperate reaction displeased
Le deep down. She had no choice, but to endure her hysterics though, and Le suppressed her
anger and keptforting Melissa.
It took her a long while to get Melissa to calm down. All of sudden, Melissa said in a serious tone, "I
know that. Don''t worry. I just need to take better care of myself. If something happened to me right now,
Shining Company would be Sheryl''s."
Le''s eyes lit up. She hadn''t expected Melissa to think about the Shining Company at a time like this.
She would never let go of such a wonderful opportunity.
"Aunt Melissa, since Charles is still ina, what will happen to thepany? I''m so worried about
that." Le then sighed helplessly, and she looked so worried. She made herself appear as if she was
worried that the Shining Company was going to be Sheryl''s.
"I just remembered that Sheryl is his sessor. So, what should we do?" Melissa grabbed Le''s hand
nervously. She didn''t know what to do.
Le pretended to think. After a long while, she seemed to think of an idea and wanted to speak but
stopped instead.
"Any ideas?" Melissa stared anxiously into Le''s eyes. She didn''t want Le to lie to her.
Le seized the moment and took a deep breath. "Aunt Melissa, if you trust me, then let me work for
thepany. That''s the only thing I can think of to help manage the situation."
"Yes, you''re right. I had already told Charles to hire you, as his secretary, and he agreed with that. It
just didn''t take effect yet, because the ident happened. I think it''s the right time now, though. It will
give me some peace of mind if you work for thepany." Melissa was ted by Le''s suggestion.
The problem was solved, and now she looked delighted.
"I think so too. Aunt Melissa, as long as you trust me, I won''t let you down!" Le looked at Melissa and
smiled.
Le believed that, if she worked in the Shining Company, her ns would go more smoothly in the
future.
