Chapter 1616 Melissa was Impatient
Sheryl thought about it for a moment as I finished speaking. She then heaved a deep sigh and told
I what the doctor had said in full detail. One ident had taken ce after another, and Sheryl now
began suspecting that she was cursed!
"What? Are you telling me that Cassie might not wake up right away? Oh my god! Are you kidding
me?" I shouted loudly, still unable to believe her ears. She ran toward Sheryl, her eyes wide as she
begged her for an exnation.
On the other hand, Sheryl felt no better than I. The doctor''s words had stabbed into her heart like
daggers. She was so hurt that she nearly couldn''t catch her breath from the pain.
The doctor told her that it be a while before Cassie woke up because she was suffering from
and be a vegetable for the rest of her life! It would depend on the will of Heaven.
It was a shock to everyone, but they had to ept that it had happened.
Sheryl could never be content to just leave it to the will of Fate to decide to kill or pardon a soul.
Cassie was one of the most important people in her life. Sheryl hated herself for having been unable to
protect her from everything that had happened.
After they spoke, Sheryl rested back against the wall as if talking had cost all of her strength. She
slowly slid down along the wall and sat on the floor. Nick did likewise because the bad news was just
as hard on him.
The three of them were all taken aback by the sudden bad news. It took a long time before they
recovered their senses again. Sheryl clutched the couch beside her and struggled to pull herself up to
her feet. She walked over to Nick and helped him get up before sitting him down on the couch. She
then fetched a cup of water and passed it to him. "Nick, you need to hold on. Cassie needs you, and
you must believe that she can make it through this. I haven''t lost heart in Charles, after all. First, you
need to take care of yourself," Sheryl said, trying to cheer him up.

Nick took Sheryl''s words to heart as he sat there. He took a sip of the water to clear his throat and said,
"I''m confident about that, Sher. Cassie will wake up, and I''ll never allow myself to doubt it."
He then nodded at Sheryl and turned to look at Cassie in determination.
When Nick had finally calmed down, he told Sheryl and I what he had seen and heard when they
had found Cassie.
I was pissed off before Nick had even finished speaking. She narrowed her eyes and balled her
hands into fists.
"Are you telling us that Cassie followed Le to the rooftop? The video then showed Le returning
alone, but you didn''t see Cassiee down after that?" I asked, just to make sure that she had
heard correctly.
Seeing Nick nod in confirmation, she clenched her teeth to avoid snapping. "That woman won''t even
get to cry before I get my hands on her. I''m going to kill her!"
I headed to the door immediately. Sheryl hurriedly told Nick to stay there with Cassie and nodded to
him before she ran after I. So many things happened so unexpectedly, and they couldn''t afford to let
I face any more danger at that moment.
"Move your ass and get over here, Le!" I shouted before she came to a stop.
Sheryl ran to catch up from behind her, but it was toote for her to hold I back.
I was being too reckless. If it had been Le who had caused Cassie''s ident and resultinga,
she would have erased all of her tracks before anyone came looking for her. Sheryl was sure that they
wouldn''t get anything out of Le.
Although Sheryl also believed that Le must have done something, they had no evidence. Besides, it
would rm Le, who mighte up with even more plots on how to deal with them.
I had a temper and was always quick to action but slow in thought. She had found Le before
Sheryl could catch up with her.
Melissa had heard I''s shouting before she reached them. She stepped in front of Le and crossed
her arms with her brows furrowed sternly. "This is a hospital. Please, behave yourself and keep your
voice lowered," she chided I in a quiet but firm voice.
"I''m talking to Le, so please, get out of my way. This has nothing to do with you, Mrs. Lu!" I said
coldly and shoved Melissa aside. She then furiously red at Le and asked, "What did you do to
Cassie on the rooftop?"
"I didn''t do anything to her! Please, leave me alone. I''ll call the security if even one of you tries to mess
with me again. Do you keep harassing me simply because I don''t have a powerful family to back me
up? I''m innocent!" Le countered by pointing out their injustices toward her as tears welled up in her
eyes.
Melissa hurriedly moved to hug Le''s shoulders tofort her. Then she walked Le a little ways
away from I.
I''s suspicion was growing stronger. She had had enough of that shameless woman, who yed
innocent by pretending to be the weakest one all the time. Sheryl finally reached them and dragged her
back. "She won''t admit to it, I. We need solid evidence to prove we''re right. It''s useless to try to
argue with her now. Come back to the room with me."
Although I was unwilling to admit defeat; she understood that Sheryl was right. I was too
impulsive, and it had been a mistake to confront Le empty-handed. It was choking her to leave Le
alone when they were sure about her guilt in the matter.
Sheryl dragged I away with her and kept exining the situation to her until they had returned to
Cassie''s room. They pushed the door open lightly and found that Nick was talking to Cassie while
holding her hand and pressing it to his cheek. They smiled at each other and closed the door again.
After a brief discussion, Sheryl returned to theirpany building to deal with the business that had
piled up the past few days, while I stayed at the hospital to look for evidence. She promised Sheryl
that she wouldn''t go to Le or look for trouble, and would talk with Sheryl before making any move.
On the other side of the city, Rachel had fallen asleep after attending to Bernard when he had returned
injured.
When she opened her eyes, she saw that Bernard was looking at her with a smile. She hurriedly got up
and touched his forehead, regretting that she had fallen asleep. She then heaved a deep sigh of relief
when she confirmed that Bernard''s fever had broken.
Bernard couldn''t help butugh at her frantic actions as she tried to check on him. He reached for her
hand and wrapped it in his. "Thank you, Rachel. You must have been up almost all night. Sorry for
causing you such stress."
"You have no idea how much you scared mest night! Your head was burning, and you were suffering
from cramps on and off. You made it through by yourself, and I didn''t help that much, but I did the best
that I could. You told me not to take you to the hospital before passing out. I had to listen to you!"
Rachel said with tears in her eyes while rubbing his calloused knuckles affectionately with her thumb.
Bernard''s heart was aching at the sight of her distress. He stretched his arms and told Rachel toy
with her head against his chest. He then kissed her head and stroked her hair for a while. "Sorry,
Rachel. I shouldn''t have let you go through this. It''s all my fault," he murmured, all kinds of feelings
rising inside him. He sighed, grateful for his life, and thanked God for sending such a kind and caring
woman to him.
"Never, ever say sorry to me, Bernard. If there is one of us who needs to say sorry, it must be me. You
wouldn''t have gotten into this mess if not for me," Rachel said seriously as she sat up from his embrace
and looked into his eyes with a solemn expression.
Bernard nodded a little and smiled at her, promising her that he would stop there.
Since Bernard had woken up and everything seemed to be back on the right track, a question suddenly
popped into Rachel''s mind. She hurriedly grabbed his hands and asked anxiously, "Where did you go
the other night? Did you go to kill Ferry? Did you really do it?"
Rachel had been thinking about it since Bernard had left their home. She was almost sure that
something must have happened when Bernard had returned home bleeding all over. She was guessing
that he had done it, but she needed Bernard to confirm it for her.
The smile on Bernard''s face froze in ce. He looked into Rachel''s eyes and replied bleakly, "No, I
didn''t."
"We''re doomed, Bernard! Tom will never leave us alone. What can we do now? Should we run away?"
Rachel asked with a nk face. She rose but then sat back down again, wondering whether she
should go to pack her things or not.
Bernard reached for her hands again and patted them gently. "Rx, Rachel. I''ll figure it outter.
Please, just trust me. I''ll protect you with my life, if need be, so everything will be fine," he promised.
Rachel sat still beside him. Still, her wild heart was not at rest. They were talking about the boss of a
hit-man organization. It wouldn''t be easy for them to get rid of Tom.
Seeing the anxiety on Rachel''s face, Bernard continued, "You need to trust me, Rachel. I know Tom
and how it all works. I''lle up with an idea to get us out of this safe and sound."
"Oh, Bernard! All I can depend on in this life is you!" Rachel finally gave him a faint smile after
confessing her faith in him.
She was confident that Bernard would never leave her, but the problem was that they were facing a
group of professional killers, hot for their blood! It might have been easy for them to hide before, but
that had been because Tom didn''t know Bernard had spared her life. Now, it would be impossible to
hide because Tom knew about them. She forced herself to think hard of a way out. She didn''t want to
wait here to be killed.
Time was running out for them, whether they liked it or not.
Nick had stayed at the hospital with Cassie. So Sheryl decided not to disturb them. After all, it was
better to leave the two of them alone. She went to work before returningter to the hospital to check
on how Charles and Cassie were doing that night. Melissa spoke rudely to her every time they ran into
each other by ident, but Sheryl had no intention to argue with her. Both of them cared about
Charles'' well-being, and that was enough to force a truce.
Melissa blocked Sheryl from entering the room the moment she got to Charles'' ward.
"What are you doing here? I''ve told you a thousand times to stay away! I said: Please don''t show up
here, again. Are you deaf or something? Do you know that your stupid face is making me sick?"
Melissa was getting more and more impatient as time passed by, and Charles seemed not to be getting
better. Sheryl acted as if she didn''t see or hear Melissa at all despite her cruel words.
