Chapter 1603 Sheryl Fainted

    Chapter 1603 Sheryl Fainted

Melissa had to shut up, but her eyes never left Sheryl''s face. It seemed that she would try to pounce on

Sheryl again to beat her up at any second.

Melissa gnashed her teeth bitterly, resenting the fact that Charles had chosen to marry such a woman.

On the other side, Sheryl was buried in her sorrow over Charles'' injuries and paid no attention to what

Melissa was up to just then. She swallowed her pain and fought back her tears, praying that Charles

woulde out of the operating room as soon as possible and with a positive verdict.

When the corridor was silent again, the police officer cleared his throat and asked Sheryl, "Can you tell

me what happened at the time of the ident, Ms. Xia?"

Sheryl pulled her drifting thoughts together and nodded. "Of course," she replied weakly.

She then forced herself to recall what had happened in the parking lot. She actually felt like thousands

of arrows were prating her heart as the scene of Charles being knocked down returned to rey in

    her mind.

Melissa''s and Le''s ears also perked up attentively to hear what Sheryl would say to the officer about

    the ident.

Sheryl took a deep breath and narrated all of the ins and outs of the matter carefully, except for the

reason why she and Charles had been quarreling. She tried to make every detail clear, hoping that it

would help the police to find the person who drove the car.

When she had finally finished talking, she gasped for breath and her face became as pale as the white

wall behind her. Going over the incident again had cost her all of her strength. Sheryl felt like her head

was bing heavier and heavier—she just wanted to lie down, regardless of where she was and

    who was there.

"Are you okay, Ms. Xia? Please, take a break if you need to." Even the police officer began worrying

about Sheryl as he saw the paleness of her cheeks.

However, before Sheryl could offer any response, Melissa chipped in again. Her constant butting in

made the rest of them sick.

"Officer, look at her! Don''t you think she looks like she''s afraid of being found guilty of something? I can

assure you that it was definitely she who caused my son''s injuries. Please, take her back with you

because I believe that she will confess once she is locked up and questioned!" Melissa spoke as if she

had witnessed what had happened, and Le nodded in agreement to what she said.

"Right, officer. Since Sheryl was with Charles during the ident, she must know something that we

don''t. Besides, it happened in the parking lot of herpany. You need to look into it more!" Le

fanned the mes of the situation. Sheryl felt sick and her head throbbed at their usations.

"You don''t know everything, officer. Although it''s supposed to be a family affair, I would like to remind

you that this woman was about to divorce my son. Search online and you''ll see photos of her with her

lover. My son refused to get a divorce, and that is why she hates him and wants to kill him. My son did

nothing wrong, so how can she treat him like that?" Melissa said bitterly as she moved toward Sheryl.

The police officer lifted his hand and gestured for Melissa to stop.

"We''ll look into it. In the meantime, you need to stop with this hearsay. Do you understand that it is a

libel if you fabricate information like that to a police officer?" the officer said to Melissa as a warning. He

was a little annoyed by her loose lips and bad attitude.

Although what he knew by then was far from the full truth, his instincts told him that Sheryl would not

hurt her husband. It seemed more to him like she loved Charles deeply and would like nothing more

than to go sit in the operating room with him.

Under the officer''s stern re, Melissa retreated and looked away. Then the officer turned to Sheryl

and wanted to ask her some more questions. Before he could, Sheryl copsed and slowly fell to the

    floor.

I and Nick happened to get there right at that moment. Seeing Sheryl copsing to the floor, and the

triumphant expression on both Melissa''s and Le''s faces, I ran up to them without any hesitation.

"If something happens to Sheryl, I will show you a real reason to cry!" I snapped as she red into

Melissa''s eyes. I would have punched Melissa if the officer was not there with them.

Behind them, Nick and Cassie had helped Sheryl into a sitting position. Nick then picked her up and

carried her to a ward for treatment while Cassie ran to find a doctor to check how Sheryl was doing.

I cast a wait-and-see re at Melissa before hurriedly following them. She would settle scores with

those two womenter. The most important thing now was for her to look after Sheryl.

At the same time, the police officer concluded that he wouldn''t get any more useful information today

    and left the hospital afterward.

After a short time, only Le and Melissa were left standing outside the operating room.

Le then stepped closer to Melissa. She was a little annoyed upon seeing that Melissa was taking

I''s words seriously and quietly berated Melissa''s cowardice in her head.

She sighed as she silently thought that Melissa wasn''t strong enough to live up to her expectations.

I had just hurled one or two threatening words, but they had caused Melissa to look like the sky was

    falling on her.

"Are you alright, Aunt Melissa?" Le asked in a concerned tone as she held back her feelings of

    disgust.

Melissa came back to her senses when she heard Le''s words. She looked at Le and replied,

"Le, did you hear what that woman said to me? She was threatening me!"

Le rolled her eyes at the ridiculous reaction before saying, "Please, don''t be mad, Aunt Melissa.

She''s Sheryl''s best friend and will always take Sheryl''s side. You should just never mind what she said

    or will say to you."

"Right. What really matters is my poor son! He will learn what kind of woman he had married this time!"

Melissa stamped her foot as she grew angrier.

Le reached her arms out and wrapped them around Melissa''s shoulders. "Calm down, Aunt Melissa.

Take care of yourself. I believe that Charles will see through her this time. It''s not toote," Le said as

she patted Melissa on the back.

With herforting words, Melissa felt better and was relieved. She thought for a moment and said, "I

hope he will understand the situation the way we do. I won''t let Sheryl go, and she will pay for what she

    did to Charles!"

Le walked Melissa to the bench, and both of them sat down. They looked at the closed door at the

same time, hoping that the operation would soon be finished and that everything was going to be

    alright for Charles.

With Sheryl out of sight, she was also out of Melissa''s mind for a while. Melissa genuinely began

worrying about her son once there was no more conflict to be had. The thought that Charles was still in

the jaws of death suffocated her, and tears were welling up in her eyes.

Le felt Melissa''s body trembling next to her and understood why she acted like that. She didn''t say

anything tofort Melissa, though. It would be better for Melissa to vent her sorrows by crying it out.

At the same time, Sheryl was unconscious for some time.

The doctor gave her a thorough checkup and concluded that it was nothing serious. She had lost

consciousness due to shock. She was both mentally and physically exhausted.

"Are you sure Sheryl will wake up soon, doctor?" I asked in concern. I couldn''t remember how

many times she had asked that, but she still couldn''t put her heart at rest.

Cassie came over and held her hand. She smiled at the doctor apologetically first and then said to I,

"Please take it easy, I. We''re all professionals. Sheryl will be fine. Please take a seat and get some

rest. It will do her lots of good to get a few hours'' sleep. Trust me!"

"Well, Cassie is right. She will wake up soon, safe and sound," the doctor confirmed what Cassie had

said. He then left the ward before I could utter another word.

Nick was sitting in front of Sheryl''s bed, gazing at her as she slept. Deep in his heart, he felt that there

was something wrong. Charles had been hit in the parking lot, and the car had driven away without any

hesitation. It was weird that the driver didn''t stop and get out to check what he had done. Sheryl was

now lying there in the bed unconscious, after all that. Things must have been worse than anyone had

    imagined.

"Nick, let''s go out and teach those two women a lesson. Sitting here won''t help anything. Come with

me!" I demanded and came over to drag Nick back up.

"Please, calm down, I! The most urgent thing now is Sheryl. Besides, Charles is inside the operating

room now. Hold on until they both wake up!" Nick said calmly, refusing to go out with her.

He shook I''s hands off his arm and asked, pointing at Sheryl, "Will you please think about her? Don''t

you think that Sheryl would agree with you?"

Of course I knew Sheryl would never want them to get into trouble over her, but she just couldn''t

take it. She needed to do something to upy her worried mind.

Since Melissa and Le had said that it was all Sheryl''s fault that Charles had been in an ident,

what would they say about Sheryl also fainting? With that logic, it was then all because of Charles!
