Chapter 1518 Encountering Bernard
Nick burst into a smile. As he gazed at Cassie''s receding figure, love and warmth filled his heart.
Once Cassie was out of his view, he turned around to the direction of the gate, ready to leave the
hospital. However, a familiar figure stopped him in his tracks.
Not far away from him, a tall man was holding a woman, passing by him. The man wore giant
sunsses, but Nick could still decipher his serious expression. There was something cold and
intimidating about the man. The woman, however, was entirely unrecognizable. Her face was covered
up by a big mask, and her long dress wrapped most of her skin. In spite of this concealment, there was
something about her that made Nick feel he knew her. He couldn''t quite put his finger on it.
He feltpelled to step forward to follow them. In his mind, he thought that was the only way to figure
out whether they were his acquaintances.
In truth, it was quite normal for him toe across an acquaintance while he was at the hospital. This
was considered one of the best in the city hence many people preferred toe here for treatment.
But he couldn''t shrug it off this time.
There was something suspicious about them which awakened his curiosity. ''Why would anyone
disguise themselves while at a hospital? Something is off about them, '' he thought, deep in
contemtion.
Nick followed them to the corner of the corridor. Suddenly the woman bent down as if she was
experiencing an excruciating pain. With both her hands, she pressed her belly to numb the pain.
Seeing this, the man with sunsses became anxious. He squatted down to check on her and hugged
her as if tofort her.
Nick couldn''t hear what they were talking about, so he went a little bit closer until their words were
clear.
"From the very beginning, I advised you to visit a doctor. You refused my request and decided to
tolerate the pain at home. This is getting more and more serious. You have no idea how worried I am
about you," the man said with deep concern oozing in his voice.
The women didn''t reply, possibly due to the pain.
The man continued, "Let me carry you. How can you manage to get there in this condition?"
The woman shook her head vehemently and refused, "No, I can manage it. I just need to walk slowly."
"You are too weak. You also know that mood swing will take a toll on your health. I have told you that I
can solve the problem of Lancy yet you insist on worrying unnecessarily. This is the sole reason your
health is weakening. In the future, please listen to me, okay? Luckily I have solved everything this time.
No one will disturb your life anymore. You can rest assured," the man said.
"Bernard, you''re wrong. As long as the bitch Sheryl lives in this world, I can''t rest assured. There is a
deep scar left in my heart which tortures me day and night. My hatred for her can never die. The mere
thought of her puts me in a sour mood. Tell me, how can I live like this?" the woman asked in a shrill
voice.
The man heaved a sigh of frustration, not knowing how to make her feel better.
Nick stared at them in stupefied amazement.
''Sheryl? Could it be the Sher that I know? Is there a possibility of them being the same person?
If so, I wonder who is the Lancy they are referring, '' Nick wondered. Judging from the man''s words,
Nick felt certain that Lancy could be easily silenced by this man.
''Why does the name Lancy seem so familiar? Lancy…'' he wondered.
All of a sudden, Nick was shocked when something urred to him. He remembered this morning the
news reported that a suspect was killed mysteriously in prison. That person was none other than
Lancy!
Lancy was the murderer who had attempted to kill Sheryl not long ago!
A jumble of thoughts crossed Nick''s mind at the very thought.
Sheryl, Lancy and the couple in front of him were somehow rted. From the conversation, he
deciphered this man had killed Lancy. The pair in front of him must be the maniptors who had
instructed Lancy to kill Sheryl!
Nick''s heart began to beat faster as he drew this conclusion. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed
the man lift the woman and leave.
Knowing he had to do something, Nick blurted out anxiously, "Don''t move! Stay there"
He was quite loud hence the man, Bernard, stood still. He hadn''t noticed Nick''s presence until now
because his mind was focussed on Rachel''s health. His priority was to take her to see the doctor as

soon as possible.
When they had been abroad, she was diagnosed with palpitation. It struck her whenever she got
irritated or had emotional instability. It had hurt him to watch her suffer. Sometimes it rpsed when
she was sleeping, therefore she got pretty weak.
They had tried a lot of methods to cure it abroad, but even the best doctors were unable to cure her
disease. They only provided medication to reduce her pain. Luckily, Rachel got better when she stayed
abroad. It was very helpful for her to stay in an environment where she could cast aside all her worries.
However, ever since they returned, Rachel''s palpitation rpsed more and more frequently.
Bernard felt heartbroken seeing the awful condition she was in. He even suggested to take her abroad
despite her unwillingness. To him, her health was more important than the revenge. However, Rachel
would never agree with that idea. She was hell-bent on staying there until she got what she wanted;
Sheryl''s life.
Now when he was about to leave with Rachel, he heard a strange man shouting at him.
Bernard was a man who was ustomed to bloodshed and fights, therefore he had a vignt nature.
As soon as he heard the voice, he wanted to run away.
However, he had Rachel in his arms. Moreover, the presence of people and guards would have made
his attempt to run a futile act.
Hence he analyzed the situation quickly and decided to figure out who that person was rather than
fleeing.
He turned around, only to find a gentleman with fair skin standing in front of him.
But he was sure that he''d never met this guy before.
As soon as Nick saw Bernard, he felt intimidated by Bernard''s fierce eyes which stared at him.
He rarely saw such intimidating people. There was something overwhelmingly aggressive about
Bernard, even though he stood there doing nothing. A glimpse of him was enough to awaken dread
among people.
Nick didn''t mean to retreat despite his fear. Sheryl was like his sister and he would never let go of such
a great chance to catch the real culprit. From the earlier conversation, Nick had ascertained the man
was rted to the murder.
He wouldn''t let them leave before he figured everything out.
"Don''t move! I have already called the police!" Nick shouted at them, trying to regain hisposure.
As a matter of fact, he didn''t call the police since his phone was powered off. He was in a situation
where he couldn''t contact anyone.
There were a lot of peopleing and leaving the hospital, but they merely threw a surprised nce
before they continued to go about with their business. None of them would stop to help him.
Mentally, Nick tried to determine the odds of catching up with them. ''Even if the man decides to escape,
I will be able to catch up with them because the sick woman seems so fragile for a flight. There is no
way they can escape, '' he thought with determination.
"Who are you?" Bernard spat out with a sneer. He could feel how intimidated Nick was from his
trembling limbs and quaking voice. The calm exterior was only a farce, and Bernard was smart enough
to know that.
"It''s none of your business. I give you two choices now: go to the police station and turn yourselves in,
or wait for the police to arrest you. The oues will be the same, of course," Nick said feigning
power.
"Nonsense!" Bernard retorted back. "What crime have Imitted? Do you have any evidence?"
His question stunned Nick. ''Right, I don''t have any evidence of his crime. I overheard their
conversation, but I have nothing to prove my spection is right, '' Nick thought with resignation.
