    Chapter 1488 Conflict

In the living room of the Lu family''s house

Melissa was feeling really bored. She continued pressing the TV remote to switch channels, but simply

couldn''t find anything to watch that interested her.

However, unfortunately she was prohibited to y cards and had no ie whatsoever. Even if she

really wanted to y cards, she wouldn''t be able to because she didn''t have any money. That was why

she pretended to be ill when she was invited for a game. She wanted to avoid being humiliated.

Thinking about what Sheryl had said to her the other evening, she couldn''t help but be angry. How was

it possible for Sheryl to criticize her in her own family? She was the hostess of the Lu family after all.

Even though she had done something wrong, she was still Charles''s mother and had to be respected.

Thinking about it, she gnashed her teeth in anger. She then continued pressing the remote with all of

her strength, but still couldn''t find a channel that entertained her.

At that very moment, rk walked by. When he saw Melissa watching TV, he greeted her politely,

    "Hello, Grandma."

Melissa''s anger subsided at the sight of rk. She waved at him and said affectionately, "rk,e

here. I have a delicious treat for you."

Just as rk wanted to reply, Shirley suddenly ran out from her room. She shouted loudly while

running, "rk, don''t you forget what Mom told us? We''re not allowed to eat anything Grandma gives

    us."

Hearing this, Melissa became even more furious.

She was the grandmother of these two kids. Why couldn''t she give her grandchildren something to

eat? Was it possible that Sheryl had educated her children privately in this way? Why wasn''t she

allowed to enjoy equal treatment in her family?

"Oh, Shirley, stop it." Noticing Melissa''s facial expression changing, rk immediately told his sister to

    stop.

However, Shirley was too young to pick up on social queues and just told rk what Sheryl had told

them in her own understanding way.

"I''m just reminding you not to eat anything Grandma gives us. I think we''d better go upstairs and rest."

After her attempt to correct her brother, she was about to pull him and go upstairs as she said.

Witnessing this, Melissa was enraged. She couldn''t believe that her own grandchildren were treating

her as their enemy. Didn''t they think she was soft or had good morals?

In anger, she stood up and took a few steps forward to stop them. She couldn''t suppress her feelings

any longer and started scolding them, "Shirley, did your mother really tell you that? I''m your

grandmother and your elder. You should be kind and filial to me. How could you be so impolite towards

me? Now I''m really pissed off."

Melissa didn''t mean toe across as harsh, but because her facial expression and tone were too

fierce, Shirley got frightened and started to cry out loud.

Seeing his sister cry, rk was startled too, which was why he lifted his head to shout at Melissa,

"Grandma, you shouldn''t scare my sister like that. She''s still young."

"Did I?" Hearing her grandson me her, Melissa felt even more furious. Shivering, she said, "How did

I scare her? I only recall telling her not to listen to everything her mother says. I''m your grandmother. I

would never hurt you. All I did was offer you a treat. Do you really think that I''d poison you?"

    Melissa spoke unconsciously in anger.

Hearing this, Shirley cried even louder. She had a high pitched voice and since her voice became

louder, everyone in the entire house could hear her cry miserably.

Hearing Shirley cry, Nancy immediately ran over to check on her. She then pulled Shirley into her arms

    andforted her.

"Shirley, you''re a good girl. Please stop crying, okay? I''m here. Don''t cry."

It was really strange for Melissa to see Shirley stop crying once Nancy''s startedforting her.

Nevertheless, Shirley still couldn''t stop sobbing.

"Sheryl is such a bitch!" After saying that, Melissa red at Shirley and dumped the remote. She

    immediately went upstairs.

Seeing Melissa walking away, Nancy pulled Shirley off from her arms and took out a tissue to wipe her

tears. She then said, "Shirley, are you hungry? Let me cook something delicious for you, okay?"

As a little girl, food prevailed Shirley''s every emotion. She blinked her big eyes and nodded with a smile

    in agreement.

Seeing this, rk heaved a huge sigh of relief.

Shirley''s wild cry really frightened him too. He was even worried that he would join her if she continued

    crying.

At half past nine in the evening, Charles returned back home from thepany. He felt that the

atmosphere in the house was a little bit weird. Once he stepped into the living room, he found both of

the kids sitting at the table, eating snacks. Everything looked normal, but he knew something had

    happened.

"Shirley and rk, I''m home!" Charles called the children''s names as he walked towards them.

Shirley was busy enjoying her snack, but once she saw her father, she immediately put it down. She

jogged over to him and held his leg tightly.

"Dad, I missed you so much," Shirley said in a sweet voice.

Charles caressed her hair and smiled, "Well, I missed you too. Did you behave yourself today?"

"Dad, I did. You won''t believe it, but I was even better behaved than rk." Shirley lifted her head and

    gave Charles a crooked smile.

However, Charles noticed that her eyes were swollen. It was obvious to him that she had cried hard

and long at some point during the day.

Charles knitted his eyebrows together closely. As he was about to ask what happened, rk walked up

to him. He told his father the truth in a soft voice, "Dad, Shirley thought Grandma scared her, and that''s

why she cried. It''s okay though because she doesn''t feel sad anymore, alright?"

Allowing her brother to speak on behalf of her, Shirley immediately nodded in agreement. She wouldn''t

feel sad anymore because she had delicious snacks to eat.

Hearing what the kids said, Charles was doubtful. Did Melissa really scare Shirley?

"rk, tell me the truth. Why did Grandma scare Shirley?" Charles wanted to get to the bottom of

everything. As the grandmother of his kids, she wouldn''t scare them for no reason. He thought that

perhaps it were the kids who were at fault.

"Dad, Grandma said something like ''beach.'' I don''t know what she meant." Suddenly, Shirley

remembered Melissa''sst words to her, before she went upstairs. She then immediately told them to

her father. In fact, she wasn''t even sure she understood what Melissa had said or meant, but she was

certain that it was indeed something bad.

''What? Beach?'' Charles was puzzled. What had happened?
