Chapter 1439 A Date

    Chapter 1439 A Date

She thought about a lot of things that night—things about her past and things about her future. She

couldn''t bear to live a life like that and she didn''t want to stay in that shabby ce every day. So that,

she needed to think of a way to get herself out of that kind of life.

''But what can I do?'' she asked herself but failed to get an answer.

These questions kept her awake. She didn''t get to sleep until the sun was about to rise. The phone

beside her pillow let out a weak light, which disappeared as the sun shone into her room.

But she didn''t sleep for so long. She was soon woken up by the noise outside of her window. It was the

old people who lived nearby getting up to exercise. She didn''t like that she was woken up after having

slept so little so she threw her pillow off the bed and decided to get up, clearly angry.

    At the prison

Le went to visit Jim like she promised. As she expected, she didn''t quite enjoy the visit. The minute

they saw each other, they scowled at one another.

"Why did you ask me toe? What do you want?" Le asked. She was talking with Jim through a

phone, and there was ss between them.

"I''m having a hard time here. I get beaten up all the time for no reason. I''d like you to pay off the prison

guards and ask them to be nice to me and make my life in here easier," Jim said.

However, Le didn''t give a damn about Jim getting beaten up. She thought Jim must be insane to call

her for help. ''I''ll be the first person to celebrate his suffering. What''s wrong with him? Why would he

think I''d be willing to help him?'' Le thought to herself.

She scowled on him inside, ''Has he forgotten all of the things that he did to me?'' She looked at him in

    disgust.

"I have no money," she said as she shrugged her shoulders, like she was helpless and couldn''t do

    anything at all.

She really didn''t have any money. When she left the Lu family, Melissa gave her a credit card. When

she checked the amount in it, she saw that there was very little money in it just enough to rent her the

small, shabby room she was staying in.

Although she had some of her own money saved up, she didn''t want to use it unless it was really an

    emergency.

Jim knew that she really didn''t want to help him but this didn''t faze him. He spoke slowly. "Le, are you

forgetting that I know some things about you? Things that only I know about."

Jim stared Le down as if threatening her. She felt as if something was twisting inside her—worry

    crept up to her.

Jim continued, "Le, think about it. If something happens to me when I''m back inside there. I can

easily tell anyone all that I know. I don''t have anything to lose. So as I''m taking myst breath, I''ll be

sure to tell anyone who''s listening all about you. I know a lot about you. How you hired me to kidnap

that girl from the Lu family and how we slept with each other over and over again."

All the color from Le''s face flushed out—she was white as a sheet. She started to tremble as she

grabbed the earpiece. When Jim saw the fear take over Le, he grinned. "But if you''re willing to help

me, I won''t do any of that. If I don''t die and eventually get the hell out of this ce, all your secrets are

safe with me. How about that? That seems fair to me."

Le knew that she didn''t have a choice.

All she could do was ept it. She was so angry that she wanted to beat Jim up. She hated being

    threatened.

Jim was satisfied so he let Le go. Just as she was standing up, he said, "But remember, I''m losing

    patience. Move fast."

Le nodded passively before quickly walking away.

As soon as she stepped out, she walked along the road. Being out here was a breath of fresh air. She

let herself feel the warm sun like she was breathing for the first time that day.

But when she thought of Jim, she suddenly felt something twisting inside her again. She hated Jim so

much that she wished he was dead. She regretted that she hadn''t killed Jim when she had the chance

to because then he wouldn''t be able to threaten her like he was doing now.

However regretful she felt, she knew she couldn''t do anything about it. What was done was done. The

only thing she could do now was find a way to get back at him.

In the office, Cassie was just getting off work.

"Cora, I''m leaving!" Cassie said to Cora as she turned around, ready to leave.

"Cassie, wait," Cora suddenly said, making Cassie pause.

Cassie turned around, expecting Cora to bring up some business issue.

Cassie had been feeling like there was this invisible wall between her and Cora since she''d gotten in

an argument with Jordan. She didn''t want anything to change for now because Cora didn''t know any of

the things that Cassie knew about Jordan and she didn''t want Cora to get involved.

"Cassie, I don''t know why but I feel like you''ve been avoiding me," Cora said as she walked towards

Cassie to block where she was going.

Cassie hesitated for a moment, not knowing what to say. She wasn''t ready to tell Cora what happened.

She couldn''t just tell Cora that she didn''t want to talk to Cora because Cora''s brother kissed her.

''No, I can''t tell her that. If I did, Cora will feel ufortable in front of me. And that will also ruin our

friendship. We won''t be friends anymore, '' Cassie thought to herself.

Cassie smiled, "What? No. I wasn''t avoiding you, Cora. I just haven''t been feeling well recently. I can''t

even concentrate on my work. Maybe I''m just tired and stressed out."

"Really? Cassie, what''s wrong? Do you need to see a doctor?" Cora asked in concern.

Cassie couldn''t help but feel affection for Cora and her genuine concern for Cassie. Cora really was a

true friend which was exactly why Cassie wasn''t nning on telling her the truth. Cassie thought that

was the best thing to do as she didn''t want to lose Cora and she didn''t want to put Cora in a difficult

    situation either.

"I''m okay, Cora. I''m fine. I''m just a little tired. Maybe, I just need some sleep," Cassie said, trying her

best to cover up the real reason.

Cora didn''t seem to be suspicious. She''d let it go and said instead, "Cassie, how about we have dinner

    tonight?"

Cassie''s face shifted when Cora mentioned dinner. Something triggered her.

Recently, every time she had dinner with Cora, she''d always see Jordan too. And she certainly didn''t

    want that.

So, the dinner which was supposed to be a pleasant bonding time with Cora turned into an awkward

    situation with Jordan around.

Cassie didn''t want that, but she didn''t want to hurt Cora either.

"Cora, I''m not free tonight. How about..."

Cora interrupted her, "Who? Why are you being so mysterious? Where are you going tonight? Who are

you going to meet?" Cora put on a knowing smile.

Cassie decided to go along with it. She put on a bashful smile and lowered her head to lead Cora to

believe that she really was going on a date.

She wanted Cora to think that she really was going on a date that night. She hoped that Cora would tell

Jordan and Jordan would stop chasing her and leave her alone.
