Chapter 1426 The Less Trouble The Better


    "What? What''s wrong with your hospital? How can you let that happen? I won''t just let this go, you


    know! You owe me both an exnation and a solution!" Charles yelled.


    He''d been nursing this fear ever since the ident. The thought of him and Sheryl separating sent a


    shiver down his spine. He couldn''t calm down and he didn''t want to waste any time talking with the


    director of the hospital either. He snapped, "I''m headed for the hospital!"


    Then he hung up the phone and drove to the hospital immediately.


    At the hospital


    Charles rushed to Sheryl''s room and pushed open her door. He saw Sheryl lying in bed, pale and


    terrified. The sight of this made his heart ache. She was so vulnerable and precious. How he wanted to


    turn her into a tiny Sheryl, whom he could put in his pocket and carry wherever he was, so that he


    could protect her forever.


    Just not too long ago Sheryl''s life was endangered and now this. These were not just mere idents


    or coincidences. Charles couldn''t help but think that someone was purposely targeting Sheryl.


    Charles had the feeling that someone was behind these, and he or she wanted Sheryl gone.


    He wouldn''t let whoever this person was to get away with it anymore. He would find out who this


    person was no matter what it took. He swore to destroy this person.


    "Sher, I''m right here with you. Don''t worry, you''re safe. Everything will get better," Charles whispered to


    her as he approached her bed. He hugged her gently in his arms as if she was fragile ss. His warm


    palm touched her head, caressing her.


    "Charles..."


    Sheryl wept as Charles cradled her in his arms. She didn''t want to show Charles her weak side but


    after such an event, she couldn''t help but sob continuously.


    She thought about what could have happened had she not escaped, and she couldn''t stop thinking


    about it. She shivered at just the thought of it.


    She couldn''t imagine what would happen to her two babies had she died. Her heart wrenched at the


    thought of Shirley and rk living all alone because she wasn''t there to take care of them.


    She looked up at Charles peacefully. She felt so lucky to be alive so she could still be with the ones she


    loved.


    "Sher, don''t cry. I promise you, we''ll know the truth and I''ll make whoever did it pay. I''ll avenge your


    honor," Charles promised.


    Sheryl tightly grasped Charles'' shoulder. Despite Charles'' promise, she still felt scared and worried.


    "Sher, why don''t you rest for now? When you wake up tomorrow, you''ll feel a lot better," Cassie added.


    She''d apanied Sheryl all throughout. She knew how worried Sheryl was since what happened.


    Sheryl wasn''t at her best at the moment, and if she continued to worry like that, it might take a toll on


    her health soon.


    "Cassie''s right. Sher, let''s go home first. Shirley and rk are waiting for you at home. They have been


    telling me that they miss you so much. You know what? When I read the bedtime stories for them, they


    told me I was not as good as you. They wanted you to read their bedtime stories for them, not me. So,


    let''s go home now, okay?"


    Charles said.


    Sheryl felt relieved when Charles mentioned the kids. Her grave expression was reced by a slight


    grin. She also missed them so much. She missed them dearly. She hadn''t seen them since the incident


    so she was very excited toe home to her children.


    "All right. Let''s go home now. But we have to finish the discharge procedure first," Sheryl said.


    "Don''t worry. I''m going to do it right now. It won''t take long. You stay here with Cassie. I''ll be right back,"


    Charles said to Sheryl.


    Then he turned to Cassie and said, "Cassie, could you stay here with Sher for a little while? I''ll be back


    soon."


    Cassie nodded as Charles gave further instructions. After that, he rushed right out.


    Charles'' decision to discharge Sheryl from the hospital was not irrational. Actually, he thought it over


    before he arrived at the hospital.


    ording to what he knew from Sheryl''s doctor, he knew that she had generally recovered. Leaving


    the hospital a little bit earlier wouldn''t have a negative impact. Plus the incident scared him so much


    that he didn''t want Sheryl to stay in this ce any longer.


    As far as he knew, the only way he could assure that Sheryl was safe if she stayed with him.


    Before he returned to Sheryl''s room, he spoke with the director first. "The person who attempted to


    poison Sheryl obviously worked in this hospital. You have a responsibility on that whether you like it or


    not. It also doesn''t matter if you knew or not. She was able to do that because of something you


    missed or failed to do. Thank God Sheryl is safe, but you won''t be as lucky next time."


    Charles spoke harshly. The director was sweating profusely as he answered in an apologetic tone,


    "Yes, Mr. Lu, you''re right. We''llpensate for the damage this has caused to your wife and your


    family. We''ll investigate this, and we''ll get to the bottom of it. I promise you that."


    Charles epted his apology, nodded, and left.


    He returned to Sheryl immediately. "Sher, let''s go," he said.


    "What? So soon?" Sheryl asked in disbelief.


    "Yes, we''re leaving now. You''re not safe here. I can''t help but worry about you," Charles exined.


    Sheryl almost got killed here. Charles didn''t dare let her stay here any longer. The best option was to


    go home as soon as possible.


    Charles took Sheryl''s hand and led her out taking their time. Sheryl looked up at Charles as she


    followed his steps feeling safe and sound. She felt as if she could ovee anything as long as she


    had Charles by her side.


    Cassie wanted to send Sheryl home. But when they arrived at the lobby of the hospital, Sheryl stopped


    her.


    She took her hand and said, "Cassie, you can go home now. Thanks for all your help. You have a shift


    this afternoon so you can rest for now. Don''t worry about me. Charles is going to be with me. Thanks


    again so much for your help. You saved my life," Sheryl said sincerely.


    She looked at Cassie with gratitude.


    "Sher, please don''t say that. It was a pleasure to have helped you. Thank God you''re safe. I''m d Mr.


    Lu is here so he can take care of you. But you don''t need to worry about what happened anymore,


    okay? You''re a lucky girl, Sher. So just keep on moving forward. You''re loved by everyone around you,"


    Cassie said.

    In the car. Sheryl wore Charles'' coat over her hospital gown because they''d been hurrying that they
