Chapter 1585
Leah was flustered by the unexpected generosity. She had a feeling Ernest was feeling a little
emotional that night.
The feeling of being held in his arms was extremelyforting. Leah really wanted to throw herself
into his embrace, but she stopped thinking about it and went to grab a bite of pudding instead.
She hoped he would hold her like this all the time, making time stop without any movement. She
wanted to immerse herself in this moment forever.
However, she had to be rational. As a girl, she should stop when necessary. She had to be as
natural as theye to be respected, especially by guys.
A girl should be reserved. Being reserved didn''t mean she was petnt, but rather it was a sign of
self-respect.
This time, Ernest hugged Leah tightly. He gently caressed Leah''s back, caring immensely for her.
It was the first time that he had felt so intensely for a girl. Ernest was amazed at how Leah and her
petite body was able to support herself through tremendous hardships.
Ernest admired her deeply for everything she had to endure.
"Girls don''t always have to be strong, it''s okay to show your weaknesses sometimes." Ernest finally
spoke in a low and husky voice.
He wanted to let Leah know that he was freely giving her emotional support.
However, Leah responded, "I''ve always wanted to be vulnerable even just for a little bit, but can''t
you only be weak when you''re alone? It''s not my style to throw myself into a man''s arms."
Ernest was moved and helpless at the same time.
It was for the best that she didn''t carelessly fall into a man''s arms, but he cared too deeply for her.
"Then, if you ever run into a simr situation like this, you''re always able to call me." Ernest said.
Secretly, he hoped that if Leah were to encounter something like this, there would be a chance for
her to vent to him.
As a listener, he wanted to at least tell Leah that he would be there for her.
Leah wasn''t alone.
Leahughed and asked jokingly, "So do I hug the air if I call you?"
Ernest was dumbfounded and didn''t know whether tough or cry at her question. He didn''t know
how to respond.
He could never predict what Leah was thinking. He always felt like she had an imaginative mind.
"You don''t need to hug the air, I can be a lending ear." Ernest answered Leah''s thoughts. "You can
tell me anything. I promise I''ll keep everything a secret, and I won''tugh at anything."
"If that''s the case, I''ll call you just to bother you." Leah raised her face and looked at me with a
smile. "You won''t hate me if it bothers you, will you?"
Ernest could only lower his head. They stared into each other''s eyes reflected with shimmer.
They gazed at each other quietly. They shared a deep tacit understanding as if they were old
friends. Without saying anything, they understood the connection they had in each other''s eyes.
He said, "No, I could never hate you."
Leah gave a blink and asked, "Define the length of ''never''."
"A lifetime," said Ernest in a deep voice. "I only have this one life, and I can''t promise anything more
than that."
"Haha, you''re right. I''m a little touched." Her eyes gleamed as she stared at Ernest. "Then I''ll be
bothering you often from now on." "Okay." Ernest nodded wholeheartedly.
The two of them continued gazing at each other, feeling more and more flustered as seconds went
by.
Leah then spoke, "Let''s go to sleep. I''m getting really tired."
Ernest finally let go of Leah with great reluctance.
"Let''s sleep then."
When they returned to the bedroom, Ernest had already tidied up his clothes.
Leah saw his jacket that she had previously thrown inside. In a panic, she threw all of his clothes
haphazardly, causing them to be wrinkled. "I''m really sorry, I messed up your clothes, didn''t I?"

Ernest didn''t mind. "It''s alright. I''ve already put everything away. But I have to say you really did
shock me."
"You were shocked by me?" Leah looked up at him.
"The way you moved so quickly kind of startled me. I thought he was your boyfriend."
"Haha, I just said he wasn''t my boyfriend. How could it be? I just didn''t want my sister to find out
about anything." Inside, Leah knew she was being
selfish.
Leah knew that if Hogan was aware of Ernest''s existence, Rowane would definitely end up knowing
too. Then her stepmother would be notified in turn, and she had no energy to deal with that
progression.
She wanted to keep Ernest all to herself.
"No need to exin, I know what you''re thinking." Ernest looked at her sincerely.
"Oh?" Leah was shocked. She instinctively asked, "Do you know what I''m thinking about?"
Ernest blinked and looked at Leah''s flustered response. He had a feeling she might have
misunderstood him. He smiled and said, "Yes, I know what you''re thinking about."
Leah turned away, not daring to look Ernest in the eyes. She replied, "Hehe, I knew you were a
good friend. We understand each other so well."
Ernest smiled, she was such a smart girl.
She knew not to point it out to prevent him from getting embarrassed. His heart softened, and he
wanted to hold her again.
However, he knew he had done it today.
Ernest was ecstatic at the news of Hogan not being Leah''s boyfriend, but when he heard that Leah
was once attracted to Hogan, her first love, his heart felt somewhat uneasy.
But who didn''t have first loves in their youth?
He could only rationalize with himself to let his mind open up.
He had also been in love when he was young.
Theyid on the bed and turned off the lights, but neither of them slept.
No one spoke. After some time, Ernest asked, "How is your father now?"
Hearing Ernest''s voice in the dark, Leah was taken aback and said, "He''s unresponsive, he seems
to be in pain. Sometimes, I think dying would be better than living with such immense pain."
Ernest was a little surprised as he heard her speak.
"I know you''ll definitely think I''m being unfilial, but this is sincerely how I think. If it were up to me, I
would rather die than live without dignity," Leah said softly. "My father has lived his entire life as he
pleased. He got a divorce with my mother saying he didn''t want her anymore because my aunt gave
birth to his child, my younger sister, who was only thirty days younger than me. What a joke."
Ernest was shocked. "Your dad had an affair while he was married?"
"Well, he never puts himself at fault. This might also be God''s punishment for him to suffer through
this torture as he grows old. He''s not going to be able to seed in finding a woman when his own
heart is failing. Talk about retribution, right?"
"Hmm." Ernest could only hum softly in response.
"I think he fell in love with another woman so he could bring it up to my mom and get an early
divorce, and I would still respect him as a man. But what did he do? He had an affair, both sides
were upied, and when I was ten years old my mom found out I had a sister who was just a
month younger than me. Then a third child popped up and he couldn''t hide it any longer, so he
finally confessed. He''s going to have lots of grandchildren now, ta-da."
Ernest sighed. "What an irresponsible man."
"I know right, unapologetically irresponsible. He only cares about his own happiness." Leah snorted.
"Ernest, don''t men like to seek this rush of stimtion?"
"No. This is different from seeking stimtion." Ernest said, "There are many ways to stimte your
life, but there''s never a reason to cheat. That falls on who you are as a person." "I think, if my future
husband falls out of love with me and wants to leave, he can just tell me bluntly. We can still be
friends after breaking up. But if he eats my food behind my back, he can say bye-bye to the tiniest
shred of mercy I can offer. I will chop his d*ckto pieces."
In the dark, Leah''s words sounded exceptionally shameless.
Ernest took a deep breath and felt his body trembling.
This girl''s words could scare a man to death, but he also understood what she meant. All in all, she
was an incredibly honest girl.
There was nothing wrong.
"Are you afraid?" Leah asked when she realized Ernest wasn''t responding.
"I''m not afraid," said Ernest. "Although I don''t wish to be castrated, I admire your courage."
