Chapter 1386
Gary looked at Celeste. It was unbelievable that she could face him while remaining calm and
keeping her cool. She could sort out her emotions so quickly.
At that moment, he felt that she was a cloud of strong aura radiating in front of him, while he was
just a weakling. He was a clown, hrious and ugly.
However, there had never been another woman in his heart. That was the point where he felt
seriously wronged.
He wanted her to believe in him unconditionally.
"I really want to believe in you," It was as though Celeste could read his mind, "But frankly speaking,
do we really know each other well enough?"
Gary scrunched his eyebrows. He looked at Celeste, not quite understanding what she just said.
Of course, he knew her well.
Celeste understood his thoughts as soon as she saw his creased brows.
"Perhaps from your point of view, we understand each other well," She let out a soft chuckle, a hint
of bitterness and self-mockery evident in her tone, "But I feel like we don''tpletely understand
each other. After all, we weren''t even officially together for the past four years."
Gary froze on the spot.
"We have never lived together. Even if we videocalled each other, sent messages or emailed each
other constantly to talk about various topics weekly, that doesn''t change the fact that we have never
actually spent time physically together."
"We haven''t even seen each other for so long, so how can we say that we understand each other
truly?"
"I''m feeling very jealous right now. Maybe the time I got to spend with you is not as much as the
time you spent with Janice, am I right?"
Gary paused momentarily. His palms subconsciously tightened into a fist. For a moment, he felt a
faint pain stabbing his chest.
The hurtful feeling he had was difficult to describe, and it made it difficult for him to breathe.
The air itself felt heavy and thick.
It was especially true for that very moment, when the beautiful girl in front of him was speaking
softly and calmly. Every single word she said hit him right in his heart.
If she threw a tantrum or even lost her temper with him, he''d at least find the courage to retort or
say something.
However, Celeste wasposed, and her tone was light and calm. The more she spoke like that,
the heavier her statements felt.
Gary started to question himself.
He did meet Janice quite often, but it was only because Janice was Lowell''s friend.
"If you aren''t speaking, I''ll take it that you approve of what I''m saying," The corner of Celeste''s
mouth twitched, forcing a bitter smile on her face.
"You went out for a while this morning. I asked you about what happened after you came back, and
you''re already feeling very upset because of my questions. But what about my feelings?"
Gary felt his heart tighten.
"Gary Smith, even if we don''t see each other often; even if you insisted on being separated for the
past four years, there''s nothing I can do to change it."
"Because from your point of view, that''s how things are supposed to be between us."
"Fine, I epted that."
"I like you, so for the past four years, I''ve always held on to one thing, which is to be with you.
Because of you, I''ve rejected many people, and I don''t even pay attention to guys who approach
me."
"The only exception was Liam Robinson. He helped me once in the past and gave me a ne,
and you already lost your cool."
"Though, I didn''t mind when you got angry and treated me that way."
"After all, I felt that I was in the wrong, so I mustered up the courage to look for you. I took the
initiative to apologize first because I knew that I made a mistake."
"I knew that I shouldn''t have epted the ne in the first ce. Even if he stuffed it into my
hand without giving me enough time to react, I still think it was partially my fault."
"When I went to apologize to you, you chose not to hold a grudge. I was happy because of that."
"But what about now?"
"I haven''t even done anything yet. I was just asking you about the perfume and the lipstick stain, but
you shouted at me while ring at me with a cold and unforgiving gaze. It seems to me that you got
angry because you were the one who did something wrong,"
"Celeste, please stop talking," Gary''s voice trembled as he wanted her to stop talking.
"Why should I stop talking about it?" Celeste continued to ask patiently, "If I don''t open up to you,
how can you understand what''s on my mind? And how would I know what''s on your mind? When a
man and a woman are together, there should be more matters to consider apart from just being
passionate."
"I believe that you are not a shallow person, and I don''t want to be one either. We all hope to
be the best versions of ourselves."
"My boyfriend came home with a lipstick stain on his shirt. Why shouldn''t I be angry? I am not a
saint, so I can''t suppress my emotions and just ignore them."
"I''m sorry, but I really just can''t be one. I''ve said so much today, and these are all my deepest
thoughts. There''s a lot of things weighing on my mind that I felt the need to tell you what I disliked."
Gary was surprised.
Celeste had never spoken this much in one go.
He looked at her and sighed softly. In the end, it was his fault that he neglected Celeste, causing her
to feel insecure. Moreover, he had not realized that he had brought her so much uncertainty.
"Alright, tell me everything you want to say in one go," He said.
Celeste looked at him and felt a little bitter and upset. Would he really understand her after she
expressed her thoughts?
She lowered her gaze. Under the brightness of the lights, her face was currently filled with sadness
as she felt like she had been faulted for something she didn''t do. Her face and body were tense too.
"What you want from me is what I want from you. I want someone who is loyal and devoted, both in
body and spirit. Otherwise, I would rather not want anything at all."
When the words slipped out of her mouth, her chest felt a piercing and sharp pain. It was so
unbearable she found it difficult to take even a breath.
The tough facial expression that acted as a protective barrier for Celeste started to crumble.
"I understand," Gary replied and nodded.
That was all. He did not say anything more after that.
Celeste thought he would say something else, but surprisingly, he didn''t.
She looked up at him, searching for some answers from him, or at least, the words that she was
yearning to hear.
However, Gary remained silent, as if there was nothing more to be said.
He just said that he understood.

Celeste wondered if he had truly done so.
She stood up and did not want to say anything more. She turned around, wanting to go upstairs.
"Wait," Gary muttered. Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed Celeste''s hand. The moment he
grabbed it, he immediately realized that her hands were freezing.
He instantly looked at Celeste, a startled look sttered across his face. He asked in a hurry, "Why
are your hands so cold?"
The air in the room was very hot. Her hands shouldn''t be this cold.
It could be seen that she was in a really bad mood.
She had probably mustered all of her courage to speak her mind.
Gary held her hand tightly.
Celeste wanted to retract her hand, but Gary still held on tightly.
The temperature in his palms was definitely warmer, and he wanted to warm up Celeste''s hands
little by little. However, Celeste''s hands were still cold.
"Celeste," Gary said helplessly, "Since the very first time I saw you, I only have eyes for you. I''m
sure you are aware of it."
Celeste smiled bitterly and gave a short reply, "Gary, sometimes what you assume is the truth is
probably not what it seems. Maybe there are some things that you failed to notice."
"I couldn''t have," He grunted.
Celesteughed, and she could feel her eyes tearing up.
She looked at Gary and said softly, "Did you know? It really hurt me to see that worried expression
on your face when you heard that Janice was at the police station."
Gary was stunned for a moment. He scrunched his eyebrows and seemed a little aggrieved.
"If you are worried about a friend, you can look for the butler, Mr. Alex, or even someone who works
for the Jones Estate to help you settle the matter. Any one of them would be more efficient than you.
But you attended to the matter yourself, so I really can''t help but feel suspicious. I tried my very best
to convince myself that I should believe in you, but I just couldn''t."
"That was because I remembered that in the past four years, no matter what kind of trouble I was
facing or whatever urgent matters I had to deal with, you would let me settle them myself, or look for
Ernest, Maria, the butler or even Uncle Logan. You would just stay in Boston."
"Now, the very minute your friend arrives in the United Kingdom, she can summon you with just one
phone call. You are supposed to be my boyfriend. What do you think I''d feel about that?"
As she spoke, Celeste''s tears fell from her eyes.
She lifted her head and turned to the other side, trying her best to keep her tears from falling.
She didn''t want to look too weak in front of him.
Then, Gary exerted a little more force and tried to pull her into his arms.
However, Celeste pushed him away. It was a hard and determined shove.
"Let me calm down and be alone for a moment. I won''t leave the house. You don''t have to worry
about me doing anything stupid either," After saying that, Celeste turned around and went upstairs.
Meanwhile, Gary stood downstairs. He didn''t move for a long time.
He gazed at Celeste''s figure as she left, his brows furrowed into a deep knot.
He realized that he could not refute her because every word that came out of Celeste''s mouth was
true. She was not being unreasonable at all.
It was also the first time that he truly felt how rational she was. She was so much better at it than he
thought.
As for him, he really did not do enough for her.
Gary stayed downstairs for a while and finally went upstairs after a while.
At night, when they were ready to go to bed, Celestey down on her side with her back facing him.
He leaned closer to her and hugged her, his arms tightening around her.
Celeste only said coldly, "I don''t want to do it. Please respect my boundaries."
