Chapter 540

    Chapter 540

In an instant, the whole room was plunged into darkness. It was raining cats and dogs with lightning

    and thunder ringing.

Old Master Carter took a sip of wine and peered at the heavy rain outside. He grinned and said, "This

rain came at the right time. It''s about time for the rainy season."

Heinz looked out of the window. His face darkened with the sudden arrival of the rain.

Meanwhile, Grace''s heart skipped a beat too. Why did it rain so coincidentally?

"Why do I suddenly feel that my heart is not at ease? I have a bad feeling," Grace spoke her mind out

    loud.

Heinz also nced at Grace immediately and seemed to have the same worry as Heinz did. Their

feelings overflowed simultaneously, but he didn''t expect that Grace would say it out first.

Both of them exchanged nces and felt an anxious feeling.

Old Master Carter took a sip of the wine and looked at them. He chortled, "As the old saying goes

about the philosophy of life, happiness and misfortune apanies and depends on each other."

It was unusual but Heinz didn''t rebut his grandpa.

    Grace nodded.

"Look at life from both perspectives. Enjoy the good

and tolerate the bad." The old man said, "In other words, be agile when dealing with situations."

"Isn''t it obvious?" Little Gary said by the side. "Well just have to ept it if there''s no other choice.

Whether it''s the rain or snow or even hail, we have to weather through it!"

The old man nodded, "It''s alright. The wind and rain are inevitable on the road of life. I''ve seen all kinds

of storms and I have survived nevertheless."

"If you are heartless, you''ll have a long life," Little Gary added.

Old Master Carter fixed his gaze on Little Gary and grinned, "I wouldn''t consider myself as heartless. I

would even say that I am kind-hearted. One doesn''t need to be calctive and seek revenge on

everything. My mother lived until a hundred years old and just passed away a few years ago. Do you

    understand why?"

Grace looked at the old man too.

Old Master Carter chuckled, "Because she has no worries. There isn''t a need to worry about things that

have yet to happen. We must only face things that have happened. Hence, that was how she could live

    for so long."

"What you mean is to not poke your nose into other people''s business."

"That''s right," Old Master Carter nodded.

Grace nodded and said, "Thanks for the wise words. There is really no need to worry too much."

After lunch, the heavy rain stopped around three or four o''clock.

Old Master Carter left after the rain.

Grace sat by the window in the bedroom and watched the greenery being flushed by the rain from the

window. The entire yard seemed to have undergone deep cleaning. It was beautiful.

Grace observed silently and recalled what Old Master Carter said. She agreed that she shouldn''t be

worried about things that had yet to happen.

Suddenly, she felt pressure from behind, and someone sat behind her. The person''s broad shoulders

    hugged her into his embrace.

"What are you thinking about?" Heinz asked softly.

"I''m thinking about what your grandfather said." Grace turned her head to face him. His firm chin was

right in front of her eyes, touching her forehead.

He hugged Grace''s body. Heinz tightened his arms and said, "Old Master Carter did go through a lot in

life and has an open mind on many matters. Otherwise..."

"Otherwise, what?" Grace was astonished. "Why are you not continuing your sentence?"

Heinz''s expression suddenly darkened as if he had thought of something unpleasant.

"It''s nothing." His mood was a little gloomy, and his voice became deep.

Grace did not ask further. If Heinz didn''t want to talk about unhappy things, then it was best to just let

    him be.

However, he spoke again, "Because he wasn''t sorrowful even when my mother passed away. Hence, I

think people like him hold shallow rtionships."

Grace was flustered and asked, "Your mother passed away?"

    "Yes," Heinz nodded.

Grace sighed and said, "Even if he was sad, what could he do? Sometimes, sadness can be

expressed and seen by others, sometimes it can''t."

"But that doesn''t mean that the person isn''t feeling sad."

For someone to lose his own daughter, how could one not be sad?

Besides, Old Master Carter didn''t seem to be the kind of person who wouldmit all kinds of crimes.

Therefore, she thought that Old Master Carter must be someone who had buried his sorrow at the

bottom of his heart and would not let it reveal itself easily.

Heinz scoffed and his tone sounded strange. He snorted, "I wasn''t able to see how sad he was."

"Is it because of this that you always speak rudely to Old Master Carter?" Grace noticed that the way

they got along with each other was bizarre.

They cared about each other very much, but at the same time, they bickered with each other.

Heinz suddenly said with annoyance, "Let''s not talk about him. It''s irritating."

Grace reached out and held his hand as she caressed the back of his hand affectionately.

It was just a series of gentle pats on the back of his

    hand, which seemed tofort him.

Soon, Heinz calmed down a lot.

Deep pain shed across his handsome face. With a soft voice, he said, "Grace, I can''t guarantee that

I can give you a good familial bond with the Jones Family. I will not invite my father to attend our

wedding. Please don''t ask me what''s the reason, okay?"

Grace was perplexed, thinking that there must be a story behind it.

    She could understand.

"Okay, I''ll listen to whatever you say." Grace noticed that whenever the topic about his father was

brought up, he would tense up all of a sudden.

She immediatelyforted him and gently caressed the back of his hand.

Heinz calmed down a little and spoke again, "Grandpa will be the only rtive attending our wedding. I

don''t n to invite any other rtives. Will you be angry?"

"I won''t," Grace shook her head. "But if someonees to me me in the future, you have to step in

to protect me. I don''t want to be the target."

Heinz was stupefied. Heughed loudly and said, "Who would dare to do so? Whoever dares to me

    you, I will punish them."

"That''s good then," Grace also chuckled. She could sense his unhappiness.

She was worried about him. It seemed that he really didn''t want to talk about his father. Earlier, the

atmosphere became tense at the dining table upon mentioning him.

It must have left a deep scar for him to not mention it.

    She felt sorry for him.

Grace smiled slightly. She turned her head to him and asked, "Where are the children?"

"They are taking a nap," said Heinz.

"Then, did you close the door?" Grace asked. "What I mean is, did you lock the door?"

Heinz shook his head. "No, what are you nning to do?"

He did not know why she was asking this out of a sudden. His heart began to throb.

Grace got up from his embrace and drew the curtains. Then, she hopped down from the window sill

    and went to the door.

She turned around with a slight smile and looked at Heinz. There was a subconscious look of shyness

    in her eyes.

    tter!

    The door was locked.

Heinz''s gaze froze all of a sudden and he yelped hoarsely, "Grace!"

Grace took a deep breath and checked all the windows. Finally, she was relieved as she walked

    towards Heinz.

    One step after the other.

Finally, she stood in front of him.

Heinz narrowed his eyes as he asked, "Grace, what are you going to do? Are you nning to take

    advantage of me?"

If this was the case, her straightforward demeanor was making his heart race.

    "So what if I do?"
