    she paused. “And this is Charles, my husband!”


    Charles’s fingers trembled ever so slightly as he held his coffee cup. Noelle’s voice was a quiet


    murmur, barely audible to just their little group, but it filled Charles’s heart with a rush of happiness.


    He looked up, his dark eyes sparkling with a light so bright it seemed to dim everything else

    With a soft smile, Charles greeted, “Hello, Mr. Smith!”


    Sean forced a smile, his eyes revealing a quick, sharp twitch. He took in Noelle and Charles sharing


    a smile and felt a pang in his chest, though he kept his cool. With a smile that tried to look harmless,


    he said, “I’ve heard so much about Mr. Hoffman. Meeting you today… Well, it’s quite something!”


    He almost seemed to be grinding his teeth as he finished his sentence.


    Charles, picking up on the tension, poured a cup of coffee and offered it to Sean. “Care for a taste,

    “Thanks!” Sean epted the coffee, then turned to greet the others, “Hello, Sir Shaw, Sir Jones!”


    “Ah, wonderful to see more young folks around!” Samuel chimed in. Though he was getting on in


    years, he was as sharp as a tack. He quickly figured out who Sean was and was puzzled. Jade


    wanted to introduce Noelle to Sean? How did Jade know someone like Sean? From the looks of it,


    Sean and Charles were already acquainted.


    “Grandpa, the guy Mom wanted me to meet is Mr. Smith’s cousin, Bob,” Noelle whispered to


    Samuel, noticing his confused look. She leaned in and whispered, “Sean and Charles are buddies.
