Chapter 1039
For a moment, I was overwhelmed with emotion. Meanwhile, Hendrix started breaking the branches
that Rainie threw down into several sections.
Then he shoved the broken branches into the wall of the cave.
"Climb using the braches!"
I suddenly understood his meaning and followed his lead in breaking the branches. He found some
stones in the mud and used them to knock each of the short branches firmly onto the walls of the
hole.
It was backbreaking work yet Hendrix did it withoutint. He continued to climb and hammer
the branches.
As the distance between us widened, I couldn''t pass the branches to him anymore, so I passed him
the unbroken branches and let him break them while hammering them against the wall.
The others had also understood Hendrix''s method, so they didn''t throw down the branches
anymore. Instead, they broke the tree branches and put them into a bag. Then, they tied it with a
rope and lowered the bag down for Hendrix to continue his tasks.
Everyone was united. It didn''t take long for Hendrix to make a makeshift staircase out of the
branches. Hendrix nced down at me and said, "Try climbing up!"
I nodded. There was something where I could ce my footing, so naturally, I felt safer. Although I
had never experienced wall climbing, I still managed to climb up. My survival instincts had kicked
into gear.
It was raining heavily, everyone was soaking wet. Naomi looked at me and said worriedly, "Let''s get
out of here quickly!"
"It''s easy for thend to copse here, especially on rainy days. Let''s leave!" Tina urged.
As we trudged back, deafening thunder rumbled around us. We didn''t have time to think about it
and went straight into our tents.
"The pit seems to have copsed more!" Tina''s boyfriend suddenly spoke.
True enough, when we looked back, we saw an even bigger area of erosion.
"This ce used to be full of mines, and some pits were more than 10 meters deep. No one
managed them all these years. As long as it rains, this kind of ident will happen easily." Tina''s
boyfriend said.
Tina said in surprise, "I saw many tea trees on the mountain. Those tea farmers must be in great
danger. It''s easy for them to lose their lives in this kind of environment."
Rainie opened her mouth and said to Hendrix, "Mr. Roberts, where have you been? If it wasn''t for
us looking for you and Rowane, Arianna wouldn''t have suffered so much, and we wouldn''t have
been caught in this dreadful rain."
For a moment, everyone''s attention was focused on Hendrix. Hendrix looked at everyone, but he
was still quite calm and polite. He said, "I didn''t expect my actions tonight would lead to so much
trouble. I''ll treat everyone to a good meal tomorrow as an apology."
Rainie grimaced. "We don''t me you. We know it''s not your fault."
As we walked away from the dreadful pit, the reality of what could have happened rushed through
me. I felt huge wave relief and exhaustion go through my bones.

My legs went limp, and I faltered.
Hendrix was quick to catch me in his arms, and he hugged me tightly.
"Arianna, what''s wrong? Are you hurt? Let''s have a look." Naomi was anxious and knelt down
beside me to examine me.
Hendrix blocked Naomi. His voice was soft like he was restraining himself. "She''s just tired and too
stressed out. Now that she''s safe, her body''s rxed. She''s not injured. She''ll be fine after a rest."
