Chapter 1744

    Chapter 1744

Carol had been holed up in the vi for two weeks, her cellphone powered off the entire time. She

felt like she was falling apart. Knowing herself, she should''ve confronted Felix right away, but she

did nothing; just hid away like a coward.

Her mind was a tangle of the events that had led her here.

Listina had fallen ill, Felix was at her side, and Carol found Listina a doctor, covering over a hundred

thousand dors in medical expenses out of her own pocket. Listina kissing Felix, her fiancé.

The human mind was a curious thing. Maybe she was subconsciously avoiding the truth, which

exined why she couldn''t make sense of it all.

She remembered Listina''s harsh words at the hospital, thinking she was just ranting, but what if she

    was telling the truth?

If this was all a scam, it would make sense. She had been such a fool. Duped emotionally, taken

advantage of, and still dreaming of marriage with Felix, she was aplete fool. She had never felt

so humiliated, so foolish in her entire life.

Lately, she shut out the world - no TV, no phone, noputer. When hungry, she nibbled on

crackers, when thirsty, she drank water, and she had lost twenty pounds as a result.

Then Ynda came knocking. She was pounding on the door like a madwoman, "Carol! Open up,

    it''s an emergency, Carol!"

Carol''s world remained in chaos, but Ynda''s voice was too loud to ignore. She sluggishly made

    her way towards the door.

Upon opening it, Ynda burst in, "Carol, it''s a disaster! Turn on the TV!"

For the past two weeks, Carol had avoided the television, refusing to absorb any news from the

    outside world.

Ynda powered on the TV, and the screen showed footage of Abner being taken away by the

    police.

Furthermore, a majority of the Miller Group''s shares had fallen into the hands of a stranger. That

stranger was Felix, a neer rising to prominence in Greenfield.

Carol''s head throbbed with pain, hearing Ynda''s voice crack with sobs.

"Carol, oh no, this is bad! My dad was involved too. Two weeks ago, I overheard him talking with

Felix. I wanted to warn you right away, but my dad found out and grounded me. That''s why I haven''t

been able to see you. He thought partnering with Felix would make him the president of the Miller

Group, but Felix double-crossed him. There''s a contract you signed that''s now key evidence against

my dad. He''s been thrown under the bus by the media, med for thepany''s takeover. What

    do we do now, Carol?"

Ynda was genuinely panicked; her world revolved around racing. She’d never imagined the Miller

    Group could face such turmoil.

For Carol, it felt like the lights went out, nearly copsing on the spot.

The news was broadcast in hernguage, but the words might as well have been in a foreign one,

their meaning twisting away from her grasp. She felt her head sting like hell.

She squeezed her eyes shut, hoping it was all a hallucination, but Ynda''s crying persisted.

"Carol, you can''t fall apart now. Felix is the new president of the Miller Group. My dad has been

fired, and all the old guard are gone, except for one - Mr. Miller''s assistant, who''s actually in cahoots

    with Felix."

Carol''s mind buzzed again, recalling thest time she saw the two of them together at the hospital.

There had been a flicker of doubt, but she hadn''t dwelled on it.

She had never doubted Felix, not once, until Listina''s words chilled her to the bone. Now, the news

    shattered herpletely.

She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.

Ynda grabbed her and dragged her out the door, "Carol, we''re going to confront Felix right now. I

heard Mr. Miller''s situation is serious, linked to a car ident years ago. Maybe Felix will spare him

    for your sake."

Carol''s thoughts were still jumbled as they reached the Miller Group headquarters and stopped at

the top floor. She gazed at the unfamiliar faces around her, feeling lost.

Ynda stormed into the president''s office. Felix, dressed in a suit, was there with Abner''s former

assistant reporting to him. At Felix''s side was Listina, with a triumphant smile, bringing him a boxed

    lunch.

The scene was a dagger to Carol''s heart.

Listina, spotting Carol, let a smug look flit across her face before the assistant discreetly left the

    room.

Ynda was livid, "Felix, what the hell is this? Have you been ying my cousin all along?"

Listina arrogantly lifted the lid off the boxed lunch.

"You two sisters can''t put together a single brain between you. The situation is so clear, and yet you

still don''t get it? Poor things. Felix only dated Carol to use the Miller family''s influence to find me a

    doctor."

Listina rolled her eyes as she spoke, “By the way, I talked to Nathan the other day. Do you know

    what Felix asked Nathan for?”

    Felix uttered, “Stop it.”

"No, I won’t stop. Carol, remember how you bragged about sleeping with Felix? Haha, did you know

that every time he was with you, he took drugs first? Those pills could get him excited even if he

was with a man. Do you really think it was you he desired? You''re so pathetic, unting yourself, but

in his heart, you''re probably worth less than a piece of meat. Disgusting!"

Listina, having vented her spite, felt an immense satisfaction.
