Chapter 1743

    Chapter 1743

Felix froze at her words, but he didn''t immediately push Listina away.

Holding him tighter, Listina''s lips curled into a cold smirk. To think that Ms. Miller was nothing but a

pawn in her and Felix''s game of affection, what could be more thrilling?

Ha, she was losing it now; just wait for what was toe.

"We''ve always been like this, Felix and I. Looks like you''re the outsider. Are you going to keep

standing there? Because I can do much worse."

With that, Listina went on her tiptoes and nted her lips firmly on Felix''s. Carol''s pupils contracted

in shock, thinking she must be seeing things.

When she snapped back to reality, she marched over and yanked Listina away. One p wasn''t

enough for Carol; she followed it with another, and then another.

Listina screeched, ready to retaliate, but weakened as she was, she was no match for Carol. Her

    cheek swelled up quickly.

It was then that Felix stepped forward, grabbing Carol''s arm, "Carol!"

Carol jolted, and reflexively, she pped him across the face. Still not satisfied, she threw three

    more ps his way.

"He kisses you and you don''t dodge? Felix, are you freaking serious? You''re just gonna roll in the

    mud with this lunatic?!"

Blood tinged the corners of Felix''s mouth, his expression growing darker.

Watching Carol hit Felix was more painful for Listina than if she were hitting her own flesh. She

screamed and lunged at Carol, wing at her throat.

"You wretched woman, what are you doing? I will kill you! How dare you hit my fiancé?!"

The room went deadly silent at her words. Carol, initially ready to fight back, suddenly felt

    paralyzed.

Her mind thundered, as if lightning had struck; she just let Listina keep clutching her neck. She felt

she couldn’t breathe. Something flickering through her mind, she pieced things together quickly.

Listina was pulled away by Felix.

    "Stop it."

"Wh-why, Felix, does it hurt? Let me see your face."

Listina, on her tiptoes again, cradled Felix''s face in her hands.

Standing a meter away, Carol suddenly felt as if a chasm had opened beneath her feet, separating

her from the two of them.

She looked to the onlooking nurses, one of whom had lent her hand sanitizer the other day, now

wearing a grin of someone watching a drama unfold.

Confused and overwhelmed, Carol stepped into the nearby elevator and shakily pressed the button.

As the elevator descended, she had no recollection of leaving the hospital or how she made it back

    to her small apartment.

Lying in bed, every inch of her ached. There were no physical wounds, but the pain was

    unbearable.

She got up and called Ynda, saying she wanted to stay at her house for a while.

"Carol, what''s with the sudden move to my cottage? Is your own ce too big or something?"

    "I just need to go."

Her voice broke, and Ynda instantly sensed trouble.

    "Alright, I''m on my way."

Ynda sped over in her souped-up car, its eleration leaving others in the dust.

Carol was still in a daze when she got into the car. Seeing Carol''s pale face, Ynda gasped,

    "Carol, what happened to you?"

Carol''s lips quivered and she began to shake.

"What''s wrong? You''re freaking me out. Damn, why are you shaking?"

Ynda, a tomboy at heart, checked Carol''s forehead and neck for signs of fever.

Carol blinked back tears that wouldn''t fall, her eyes sore but dry, "It''s nothing, Ynda. Can you

take me to your ce in another city instead? I''d like to spend a few days there."

"Sure, but let''s not go too far. It''s just a two-hour drive to the suburbs; the scenery''s nice, perfect for

clearing your head. Did you and your man Felix have a fight?"

The mention of Felix sent a sharp pain through Carol''s heart, as if she might pass out from it the

    next second.

Ynda switched on the car stereo to y some music, "What do you wanna listen to?"

Carol didn''t hear her; her world was in chaos, unable to take in any external sound.

Ynda waved a hand in front of Carol''s face, finding dead stillness in her eyes, "Maybe I should

take you to the hospital instead; I''m really worried about you."

The word “hospital” stung Carol again, and she closed her eyes, her voice hoarse and choked.

"Take me to the vi in the suburbs. I want to be alone there for a few days."

"Alright, but I''m free these days. I''ll stay with you."

"No need, I want to be alone."

As she spoke, she clutched her own arms where Listina had grabbed her, the pain sharp enough to

    numb and sober her.
