Chapter 989
Fitch strode over from a distance, a solemn expression etched on his face.
"Ian, I''ve been warned by the higher-ups not to dig any further into Eric''s affairs."
His current knowledge was limited to what the Haskins family had shared, that Eric had been involved
in human experimentation, a globally prohibited act. If the secret were out, every country involved
would face international condemnation.
No one could afford such consequences.
Ian''s gaze was fixed on hisputer, still reading that cryptic poem, the only clue they had.
Fitch, however, shut down theputer and packed up all the documents.
"The situation with Eric isplicated. We won''t get anywhere in the short term. It would be helpful if
we could find someone who had recent contact with him, but we''ve got nothing."
Ian put down the documents he held.
"I''m heading home."
"Aren''t you supposed to meet someone from the Sanders family? I heard they''ve been delivering meals
to you recently."
Ian didn''t respond to that, heading straight back to Greenfield Gardens.
Ryan was already waiting on the sofa, bearing a gift bought from abroad, a tie clip.
Ian didn''t look at the gift. He first took off his cufflinks, tossed them into a box, removed his suit jacket,
and then sank into the couch.
"Cousin, is that true about you and Judith? Everyone''s saying you two are together. Are you over
Penny?"
"Did she tell you that?"
He was referring to Maja.
"No, I just called Penny, and she sounded rather down."
"She was upset?"
Ian was a bit skeptical, pressing his lips together, "I''ll find you a position at Raymond Corporation. You
can start working there."
Ryan suddenly became anxious.
"Cousin, I didn''te here for that."
"I know, but you need to do something."
Ryan abruptly stood.
"I have enough money to livefortably for the rest of my life. I don''t need to do anything. You can
say Ick ambition or that I''m a pushover. I don''t care. What''s all this money for? You can''t bring it with
you when you die. Being born into the Raymond family was my good fortune. I don''t need to work. I
think as long as you''re happy, that''s all that matters."
Ian had already stood up, intending to head upstairs.
Upon hearing Ryan''s words, "If I find a woman I like. I''ll pursue her with all my might, regardless of her
status. You all probably thought my ex-girlfriend wasn''t good enough because she was just a
receptionist. But she was sweet and made me happy. I''m fickle, and there will be others. But at least
when we were together. I was genuine. I wouldn''t be like you, cousin, too afraid to chase the one you
love."
The creases in Ian''s forehead deepened. He was about to say something when Ryan had already
pushed the door open and left.
When Ian stepped out of the shower, his mind reyed Ryan''s words.
Too afraid to chase the one he loved.
This belongs to N?velDrama.Org.
He chuckled bitterly. It wasn''t that he hadn''t tried, but she was already taken.
He opened Twitter on his phone and checked the current public opinion. Everyone was still criticizing
Funfly.
He clicked on Maja''s Twitter.
She hadn''t posted muchtely, but the few tweets she had made had seen a steady increase in
Ian didn''t have a Twitter ount. Even though many people had watched his interviews before, he had
never created one.
Maja had only made a few posts. He quickly scrolled through them.
He then clicked on her Facebook ount. Now, he finally understood why she was reluctant to give
him her personal number.
He already had it.
He went through Maja''s Facebook on both her work and personal ounts. The work ount had
more activity, including a few posts about Coco and one about Rocky.
But her personal ount was surprisingly quiet, with only two posts.
As boring as she was.
But then again, she didn''t seem to have many rtives, so there probably weren''t many contacts on
her personal ount.
A pang of pain gripped his heart.
