Chapter 2259
Morning came, and a new day began.
Over at the South Army''s base, the cooks were unusually busy in the kitchen.
Themander had just given orders that they were expecting a special guest today.
The kitchen was abuzz since the morning. Everyone set to work, making the best dishes they could from the simple ingredients they had avable. They wondered who wasing over-so much so that themander wanted an exhaustive meal served.
Zach was known to be forbidding and strict. He was thrifty with military expenditure and would not usually ask for anything exuberant.
Meanwhile, Zach was reading his daily military updates at his office.
Marcelo, the captain of the National Guard, came in while he was still catching up with the updates. "Commander," he interrupted politely, "all preparation is underway."
Zach nodded. "Good. General Cross ising today, so make sure nothing goes amiss. I want to make sure he has a good experience here."
Themander did not say exactly why he went out of his way for Nathan. The truth was, although all high-ranking military officers already knew that Nathan was the Chief Military Governor, it was still confidential information to people outside of the circle.
On usual asions, Zach would just refer to Nathan as the general since they still wanted to keep this a secret from other people.
One of the concerns was that foreign powers might target the Chief Military Governor''s family if they knew about his true identity. Marcelo, who was unaware of Zach''s meditation, looked at him ufortably.
Zach caught the uneasy look on his face from the corner of his eyes. He flipped a page casually, asking, "What is it you want to say?"
"Commander,” the man said timidly, thinking if he should go ahead, "the matter between Bowen and the general is delicate. Bowen is Penny''s biological father, so if they resume their familial ties one day, Bowen will be the general''s father-inw. This is a family matter. What if something goes wrong in the future? You''ll end up offending both sides. So why get involved?"
Zach chuckled. "You know what? General Cross saved me once. We''re like brothers, so I can''t just let this slide without doing anything. Since Bowen messed with him and even came here for help, I should just do my part. Of course, it would be best if things worked out between them, but if not, I would still have a clear conscience knowing I did my part."
"It makes sense now that you put it that way," Marcelo said in agreement.
Just as the two were speaking, a Rolls-
Royce pulled up at the military base.
The limousine came to a halt and Bowen was escorted out of his car in a wheelchair. The whole entourage of subordinates was careful around their boss to ensure
he was not hurt.
Bowen looked around the military site and at the armed soldiers, standing with their chins up and chests out. He suddenly felt an oppressive air engulf him.
Two cooks came out of the kitchen, mumbling among themselves.
They stole nces at the group of visitors, talking among themselves about how Zach had not had such important guests for a long time.
They were specting about the
man''s identity since Zach
unprecedentedly asked them to add more dishes to the mealter. He even requested them to prepare Commander-exclusive Cigarettes on the table.
"So he''s the guy ourmander is meeting today?"
Bowen heard snippets of what they were talking about. A satisfied smile curved on his lips.
See? This is how I''m supposed to be treated. Businessmen and soldiers alike. They should all respect me. The Commander-in-chief did a good job with the reception. This is how
Eurasia''s military should show their respect. Content belongs NovelDrama.Org

It did not ur to the haughty man that the spotlight guest of the day was not him, but Nathan.
If he knew it was Nathan that all this was meant for, his anger would have shot through the roof.
Meanwhile, Marcelo and two other soldiers approached the blissfully ignorant man.
“Mr. Camden, this way please," he said, ushering him into the base.
"Sure."Content is property ? N?velDrama.Org.
In no time, they arrived at Zach''s office.
"It''s been a long time, old mate. It seems like you''re still as dashing as when Ist saw you."
Bowen cozied up with Zach the moment he saw him. He shed him an amiable smile as he pushed his wheelchair closer, extending his hand to Zach.
Themander smiled faintly and shook his hand. "It''s good to see you, Mr. Camden. I was a naughty kid back when we were still seven. I was far from being dashing."
His words upset Bowen.
His gut feeling told him Zach was not entirely fond of him.
