Chapter 1598
Valois and others were stunned when they heard this.
Then, it dawned upon Valois that his brother had made a calcted decision.
Clifford knew that Nathan would insist on taking Phoebe''s life. To prevent that, he made sure that
Vadim was the one who fired that killing shot.
At the very least, Phoebe died at the hands of people who cared about her. In doing so, Clifford also
managed to keep some of his family''s dignity intact.
In addition to that, Mr. Davier hadmanded a subordinate to kill his daughter.
This act of cruelty also served as a warning to Nathan.
If Clifford was capable of such cruelty to his own flesh and blood, one could only imagine the kind of
revenge that would be inflicted on someone like Nathan.
Both Vadim and Colin bolstered their weapons almost at the same time.
Having heard the gunshot, the forces waiting outside were about to storm the residence again. But
given that both Colin and Vadim had put away their weapons, they retreated quietly into the
background.
A pale-faced Vadim turned to look at Nathan. He looked positively unwell. “General Cross, are you
satisfied now?”
Nathan merely nced at Phoebe''s lifeless body. “That''s something you should ask the families of
those soldiers.” Having said that, Nathan gathered Colin and Ava and prepared to leave.
Just then, Valois called out to Nathan. “Wait.”
Nathan stopped in his tracks and looked at Valois.
The resentment and hatred that Valois exuded were overpowering. Through gritted teeth, he said,
“Nathan, I hope you won''t regret what you did today.”
“I, Nathan Cross, have lived my life without feeling shame or regret. I wish I can say the same about
your family, Mr. Davier. Having raised children with such poor attitude, you don''t deserve any
respect from me.”
With a half-hearted shrug, Nathan turned on his heel and left.
After a while, Nathan finally returned to Channing and made his way to the hospital where his wife
was warded.
When Penny heard that her unborn child might not survive, she could not stop weeping out of
concern and worry. Even then, she had maintained the facade of being strong.
The return of her husband gave her some reprieve. She couldn''t help but bury herself in Nathan''s
warm embrace. Penny then gave her husband a tight squeeze. “Hubby, you''re back.”
Very gently, Nathan said, “I''ve taken care of the main culprit. I guess it counts as seeking justice and
rpense for the victims.”
“In a few days, I n to visit the families of the soldier who sacrificed in the crash. It''s about time we
sent them our condolences.”
“After all, I may not have had a direct hand in their deaths, but they put their lives on the line for me.
I can''t not feel guilty.”
Penny nodded thoughtfully. “I hope the families will be able to get back on their feet.”
Nathan gently stroked her forehead. “You''re one to talk. You should cheer up too!”
Penny hummed in agreement and gave Nathan another squeeze.
The next day, a quiet and low-profile funeral was held for Phoebe in Brimmopolis. The Davier family
took care to not draw too much attention to her death.
In fact, nobody else was invited to attend her funeral.
Since the incident involved both Nathan Cross and Clifford Davier, many people from their inner
circle kept their distance.
Everyone felt that it was for the best. Nobody wanted to get caught up in a mess that involved the
two men.
However, even such a quiet funeral hadn''t stopped a high-profile individual from his presence.
It was none other than Boris Tucker, a member of the Great Cab.
After Boris sent someone to disy the funeral wreath, he walked over to Clifford to offer his
condolences. “I''m sorry for your loss, Mr. Davier. Having just lost my son not too long ago, I
understand how you must be feeling right now.” “I appreciate your kind words, Mr. Tucker.” Boris
then pointed at a quiet corner where there was nobody. “Mr. Davier, a word in private, if you will?”
Clifford nodded in response. “Of course.”
As the two made their way towards the secluded area, even their bodyguards dared not follow too
closely. They decided to look out for them from a distance.
“Mr. Davier, isn''t it time we taught these kids a lesson?”
Clifford understood exactly what Boris meant. “Yes, I think it''s time we disciplined them.”N?velDrama.Org owns all content.
