    Ashlynn understood that it was a threat, and it sent chills down her spine.

    The next morning, Corentin stayed for breakfast with her and left with his jacket in a seemingly great

    Just then, her phone in the bedroom rang, and she walked outside to find Jeremy’s name on disy.


    Jeremy had been the only one who reached out to her about her disappearance from thepany.


    “Hello?”


    “Why do I hear that you got fired?” he asked.


    It was a job that people would die for, after all. One would never simply quit on their own will and the

    “Did something happen between you and Corentin? Did he lose interest in you that soon?”

    “Why is he getting officially engaged to Meredith, then?”


    Ashlynn was taken by surprise. “Engaged?”


    “You didn’t know? They are holding the engagement party this week in a hurry,” Jeremy said


    sarcastically.


    Ashlynn had not expected to agree to an engagement with Meredith when he had married her, not to


    mention doing so when Ashlynn was pregnant.


    “Are you upset?” Jeremy asked.


    “It’s just an engagement party?”


    “It’s just a ceremony to inform everyone that the Lloyds and Hiltons are joining forces. It’s confirmed. I


    guess some men prioritize careers over everything. Don’t be too upset. There are other nice guys out


    there,” Jeremy said empathetically.

    “We are. My dad and hers are brothers, and because both of their first children were daughters, so the

    managed to find her again; since that happened, my mom has never been truly happy. She prays every


    day, hoping that she will find her daughter someday; even if we never find my sister, she prays that her


    adoptive parents will treat her with kindness. My mom ends up projecting all her love for her missing


    daughter onto Meredith. Meredith might lookdy–like on the outside, but she has a horrible


    personality!”


    “Your older sister… went missing?” It was the first time she had heard Jeremy mention this, and she

    “Yeah. My mom took her out shopping with the nanny, but she still went missing. We suspect that she


    was abducted by a trafficker,” Jeremy said gloomily.
