Brandon asked, “What’s going on?”
“Brandon!”
We both spoke at the same time.
“You said you were leaving today, didn’t you? Where are you going?” I asked. Because I had run to
him, my breath was heavy.
His brow furrowed when he saw me suddenly jump out of the car. Upon hearing my question, he
rxed, and a smile spread across his face. “Are you afraid I’m going to run away?”
His teasing made my cheeks flush, and I feigned annoyance. “Where are you really going?”
“I’m not leaving for now.” Brandon didn’t directly answer my question.
I frowned. “Hmm?”
“I was originally going to leave because my work here was done and there wasn’t anything keeping
me. But things are different now,” Brandon said. Then, he stepped closer and bent down slightly.
“Because now I have a girlfriend.”
The way he said it sent a jolt through my entire body. I took a step back and turned away since I

But before I could move, Brandon tightened his grip on my wrist and pulled me forcefully embrace.
His chin resorted on the top of my head. His voice was husky as he said, “I wouldn’t just disappear.
If I were to leave, I’d tell you first. You’d have to agree before I could go.”
My heart was pounding, and my whole body felt hot. So early in the morning… Such deep affection
was almost too much to handle.
Just as I was about to say something in response, a voice behind us suddenly said, “Oh my

The sound startled me, and I quickly pulled away from Brandon’s embrace. But it seemed to be too

It was Lara. Lara and the other neighbors already considered Brandon and me a couple, but it was
still quite embarrassing to be seen in such a private moment.
“Mrs. Bishop, you’re early,” Brandon greeted her warmly. He seemedpletely at easepared

“Not earlier than you,” Lara replied as if she knew Brandon exercised early every day. She then
tilted her head toward me and added, “It’s rare to see you up so early, Maddie.”

Lara chuckled. “Brandon, I’m praising you. You’re really too good to be true.”
I didn’t stay to listen to what Lara and Brandon said afterward, but I was sure it was all praise.
As I drove away and turned out of the neighborhood, I nced in the rearview mirror. Brandon was
still watching me. It felt like he was looking at me like I might never return.
I brought scrambled eggs and toast for Lisa, but she didn’t get a chance to eat any of it. Before she
could even ask me aboutst night’s details, she was pulled into the operating room due to a
sudden emergency involving a pregnant woman.
With Lisa upied, I couldn’t just stay, but I didn’t know where I was supposed to go this early in
the morning. Going back home didn’t seem like an option.
Hence, I decided to head to the office. But just as I walked out of the hospital lobby, I bumped
straight into a man rushing inside.
Fortunately, I managed to dodge slightly, or I would have been knocked over. Even so, I still
stumbled from the impact. Fortunately, the man reacted quickly and grabbed me.
