    Joe gently coaxed Skr for a while. After they gathered Vi’s belongings, they headed to


    Pearlhall Residence.


    On the way, they called George and Alexander. They arranged to meet at Pearlhall Residence but


    didn’t reveal much over the phone.


    However, both George and Alexander felt a growing unease during the drive. They pondered


    various possibilities during the trip.


    Upon arriving at Pearlhall Residence, they were greeted by the sight of Gloria dabbing her eyes with


    a tissue. Her eyes were swollen and red from crying.


    Noticing the absence of Vi made the air heavy with an unspoken answer.


    They also spotted Skr, who looked pale, her eyes red and puffy. The answer they had been


    contemting surfaced in their minds.


    George and Alexander stood motionless at the door.

    Joe walked toward the entrance. He called out, “Mr. Querbach Senior, Mr. Gardner Senior.”


    Both men were momentarily slow to react, then nodded in acknowledgment before following


    him inside.


    Gloria looked up at her two friends, tears streaming down her face. “You’vee.”


    Just as she spoke, the tears flowed again. She quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe her tears.


    “Vi…” George began, but his voice was hoarse,den with emotion.


    Having lived a long life, he often found himselfcking the courage he wished he had, especially


    when he longed to see Vi onest time.


    “Vi… she’s gone ahead of us, waiting for us on the other side.” Gloria nced at Skr,


    who was more distraught than she was. She squeezed Skr’s hand before answering George.


    “What?” George took a sudden step back.


    Alexander closed his eyes, his face pale. “You all should sit down. Let Joe exin Vi’s


    situation in detail.” Gloria had little energy left.


    She couldn’t find the strength to exin everything to her friends. The pain was overwhelming.


    She had assumed that her own health issues might lead her to depart this life before anyone else,


    yet it was Vi who had left them first.

    “Hey, Skye, don’t be too sad,” George said wearily as he tried tofort her.


    Skr nodded. “Okay.”


    Joe then shared the recent details about Vi and the letter she had left behind. When they heard


    Joe say that Vi had passed peacefully in her sleep without suffering, their expressions softened


    slightly.


    A heavy silence fell over the group. After a while, George spoke up, “Vi didn’t like noise or being


    disturbed. Let’s keep her funeral simple and quiet.”


    “Skye mentioned the same. When Vi lived in the countryside, she told Skye that if she ever died,


    her wishes were to keep things simple and to have her ashes scattered in the ocean,” Gloria added.


    At their age, they hade to ept many things in life.
