I opened my eyes to the smell of food and giggles. Lyra and Cisco were setting up breakfast on the
table and Cisco was giggling at something Lyra said.
It reminded me of how we usually set up the table for dinner at home. Only that they were doing it at
the hospital and I couldn’t do it with them.
I tried to sit up in bed but clearly my body wasn’t ready to cooperate with me. I let out a frustrated
groan earning the attention of Lyra and Cisco.
“Mummy”. “You’re awake” they said at the same time and I was almost tempted tough at their
adorableness if only my body allowed me to do so.
Lyra and Cisco rushed to my side as they scanned my body for any signs of injury.
I almostughed. If only they knew they couldn’t see the injury. I was hurt from the inside. The cuts
and bruises on my body were nothingpared to the damage caused to my heart.
“Do you need anything?”, Lyra asked with concern written all over her face and I felt sorry for her.
For putting her in this position when she could be living her own life.
Biting back tears, I mustered up enough courage and looked up at her. “I just need assistance to sit

Lyra wasted no time in raising my back gently and putting a pillow behind me to support my back

Theyid out porridge and just as Lyra had proceeded to feed me, Cisco stopped her.
“Can I feed her myself?” He asked slowly and Lyra looked at me and I nodded.
“Of course you can”, she replied and handed the spoon to him.
Cisco carefully took the spoon and scooped a moderate amount of porridge and held it to my lips.
“Mummy needs to eat better for the medicine to work” he said bravely and I just realized how much
my baby had matured since we moved back here and I was filled with so much

emotion but I didn’t cry, I couldn’t cry. I had to be brave for them.
I looked around and found Kaiden watching our interaction with a small smile or should I say
watching me and I remembered how considerate he had beenst night.
He had these eyes of adoration that made stomach flutter and red at him hard and looked away
from him with heated cheeks. I heard his soft chuckle but I ignored him.
I turned my attention back to Cisco and I nodded at him and opened my mouth wide enough for him
to feed me. I chewed slowly on the food and opened my mouth for another and we went on like that
for minutes till the bowl was empty.

“Wow, welldone mummy,” Cisco said excitedly. “Now that mummy has eaten she will feel better and
we will be out of here in no time,” he said with so much certainty.
If only he knew. If only he knew how bad my condition was. Lyra looked away as soon as he said
that and I knew she was trying desperately not to cry.. I thought of words I could say tofort her
but nothing came out.
Just then, Dane, Kaiden’s beta walked in. “How are you feeling Freda?” he asked as he studied me.
“Better” I replied, giving him a light smile. He turned to face Kaiden and they spoke in hushed tones.
“Is there any update?” I asked drawing their attention
He seemed to contemte whether he should tell me or not but seeing my expression he sighed
and gave up.
I looked at Lyra and she nodded.in understanding without me having to exin to her. She took
Cisco to the far end of the room and distracted him.
Dane was then able to speak. “I was just discussing with Kaiden about how we would deal with the
werewolf council”.
“Some of them had collided with Safiya to pass out an unjust judgment on you. I found that out after
doing some diggings”.
I gasped. It all suddenly made sense. That day they had all just fallen deaf ears to my pleas. It only
made sense that Safiya had them wrapped around her finger.
“So we have to find a way to remove them from their position and put them behind bars. We need to
find concrete evidence
