We all walked out of the office and down the hallway silently. A group of people wheeling a stretcher
rushed into the hallway we were and the stretcher almost hit me. A woman’s hands were sped to
her lips and she was weeping as she followed.
“Archer please… please!” Her cries were m**d.
I swallowed as I looked away. We got to Freda’s ward and I stopped both Dane and the doctor
outside the door. I could not hear what was going on so I gave them a minute. After that, I slowly
pulled the door open, informing them that I wasing in. My eyes immediately caught on all three
of them huddled together on the floor in a hug. My heart warmed and I hated myself for interrupting
it.
“I hate to break this up, but we have to get you checked,” I said regretfully and Freda looked up at
me with a soft smile on her face. My heart s**ed a beat and I wanted to punch myself in the face for
acting like a lovestruck teenager.
I gave room for the doctor to walk in and we all walked towards her. Lyra held Francisco’s hand and
led him away from Freda so they could give us space to check in Freda. Dan waited at the door and
I knelt in front of Freda.
I brushed her hair out of her face before I could stop myself and I froze, waiting for her to yell at me
or grow tense at my touch.

I was surprised at the fact that her cheeks turned red again and she smiled at me. “Are you okay?” I
asked her quietly, staring into her eyes with worry. She shook her head. “As okay as I can possibly
be with wolfsbane in my body,” she said. Her voice was horribly broken and I could tell that she was
straining to say those words.
I was not going to make her talk anymore. I was going to have to find a way to make it easier for her
tomunicate without talking. So instead of saying anything else, I nodded. “Don’t say anything.
I’ll carry you up to the bed now, okay?” I said and she hesitated before she nodded.
I ho**d my arm under her legs, and around the back of her shoulders and lifted her off the ground.
She buried her face ?n my shirt as I waited for the doctor to get the IV pole off the bed. Once he
lifted it, Iid her down on the bed. She looked at me with vulnerability in her eyes. I smiled at her.
“You are not allowed to speak anymore, okay?” I told her quietly. She frowned and was about to
open her mouth.
“No words, Freda,” I said, shaking my head with a small frown. She pressed her lips together and
rolled her eyes, looking towards the doctor as he started setting up the poles again.
I headed towards the door. Francisco was looking at Freda curiously and then he looked at me,
squinting his eyes. He pressed his lips together and looked down at his iPad. I was curious to know
what was going on in his mind but I was not going to bother asking him.
Lyra looked extremely exhausted and I knew I was going to have to send her home. It was already
dark and she was really tired so there was no way I was going to let her drive. I would

I turned to Dane. He was watching Freda and the doctor carefully. I walked towards him. “What are
you thinking?” I asked, standing by his side and looking in the direction he was looking.
“I’m starting to suspect everyone after will that’s happened today,” he chuckled and nced at me.
“We need to keep an eye on every single person thates into her room. She isn’t safe
anywhere, especially this ce,” he said and I could suddenly see the sense in what he was saying.
“Right.” I said, nodding. Thank the heavens he was so thoughtful. I could not think too much with
Freda upying every crevice of my mind. “You can go home now, man,” I said and he looked at

“I can’t,” she said, looking towards Freda. I smiled at her. “Trust me. I’ll take care of her,” I said. She
looked down at Francisco and found that he was already nodding off. She took the iPad from him
and lifted him in her arms. She walked towards me in what she tried to make an intimidating
manner. “Pinky promise?” She asked, squinting her eyes and holding out her hand to me.
