    The man walked closer and stopped in front of ina.


    “Jalen?” ina looked at the familiar face in front of her in disbelief. She almost doubted her eyes.


    “Yes. Can you walk?” Words failed to describe how Jalen felt when he finally found her. He was so


    eager to hug her in his arms now that ina stood safe and sound before him.


    But he did not do that. He was afraid ina would dislike his hug and could only be careful.


    ina nodded in a daze. She did not have time to ask Jalen why he was there. Instead, she looked


    down at Corey in her arms. “Can you help me carry him out?”


    “OK,” Jalen answered.


    Jalen took Corey from ina and did not leave right away. He was waiting for ina to go with him.

    She wondered, I don’t have a fever. I just felt embarrassed to be carried in your arms. Besides, many


    vigers were watching us.


    She gave Jalen a gentle push. “Put me down,” she said.


    Jalen agreed and put ina down reluctantly from his arms.
