    After a while, Jackson was finally done trimming Serenity’s nails under her instruction and guidance.


    The first thing she felt was exhaustion. It would have been much simpler and easier if she could have


    just trimmed her nails herself. Still, it looked like Jackson was having fun trimming her nails. Once he


    was done with one finger, he began scrutinizing the rest of her fingernails and started to trim all of them


    too.


    He even seemed disappointed when he was done, almost as if he wished it was not over so soon.


    “When your nails get longer again,” he told her, “let me help you trim them again, okay?”


    Serenity was left speechless and unable to react.


    Because it was still noon, it would have been too early to go to the hospital to visit Yanny now, so


    Jackson returned to his desk and settled the remaining work he had for the day while Serenity picked


    up her phone and began scrolling through the news.


    Suddenly, a trending headline caught her eye. It was an article about her sister, Aria Lewis, which


    touted her as being sessful both in her love life and career. It even mentioned that Aria had


    confirmed that she would be attending the uing dinner g in Sria with her boyfriend, Lucas


    Gomez. This dinner g would be attended by all the elites as well as the upper crust of the Srian


    society.


    With this news article alone, Aria was able to silence all the rumors about her possible breakup with


    Lucas as it proved that their rtionship was still going strong.


    The article was also apanied by several pictures of Aria posing as a model in endorsements and


    advertisements as well as a picture of her being the cover girl of a fashion magazine.


    It seemed undeniable that she was on top of her game right now, but… Serenity’s eyes darkened


    slightly without her realizing it. Anybody could tell that everything that Aria had all came her way


    because she was Lucas Gomez’s girlfriend. Once she broke up with Lucas, she would likely lose many


    things, and her life would no longer be so picture-perfect.


    Besides, men like Lucas probably hated nothing more than a girlfriend persistently clinging onto him for


    the rest of his life.


    At the very least, Serenity had seen with her own eyes how unfeeling and cruel Lucas had been to his


    clingy ex-girlfriend.

    Serenity could not help but chuckle. It did not matter what would be of Aria in the future, whether


    she would fall to rock bottom or continue living in glory because she now had nothing to do with Aria.


    In the past, she had truly loved Aria as a sister and would find ways to help Aria obtain some sess,


    but after having been in prison, it was clear how little she mattered to her own family, and all the love


    Serenity had once felt for them had all but dissipated.


    Serenity went on to scroll through her phone for a little longer until she started to feel a little sleepy. She


    leaned back on the couch, and her eyelids began to feel heavier and heavier…


    The next time Jackson turned to look at Serenity, she was already lying on her side on the couch with


    her eyes closed, obviously asleep. He got up and slowly walked over to her side. At the moment, her


    sleeping face looked serene and peaceful, her curly eyshes casting shadows on her face.


    He stared at her sleeping face, mesmerized. The sight of her filled his heart with peace and


    contentment,


    Jackson went to the lounge in the next room to get a nket and gently covered her body with it.


    All his life, he used to think that possessing someone or getting anyone he wanted was a simple


    matter. Only now did he realize that when he truly wanted someone, he did not want to threaten her


    and force her to be his with the power he wielded. Instead, he wanted her to be willing to be his. And


    when he truly loved someone, he could easily lose a night of sleep over something she said, a look she


    gave, or even just a simple gesture of hers.


    “When will you finally fall in love with me?” he asked softly. “How much longer do I have to wait for you,


    h?m??“
