They form a dangerous and unlikely union of super-powered misfits, reckless and fueled by both ego and impulse. A run-in early on in their playful quest reveals there's more to not only the eggs Frem stole, but also Windston's enigmatic sword - an ancient relic, and the only clue regarding his mysterious past.  A newly appearing red star proves to be more than just an ill omen. And as war brews and plague spreads, the boys and the friends they meet along the way discover their journey's end will lead them to a place no one willingly ventures: Ice Mountain, an unclimbable peak beyond the northern wilds, and the rumored home of an all-powerful sorcerer known simply as the Madman....
