Chapter 56: Get out, Mother.


    “I don’t know exactly what you want me to do Mrs. Parker, and that is why I told Mr. Parker, I would


    love to see you.”


    “I understand, Mr. Nichs. All I want to know is the business myte parents were into. I need to


    know everything, either good or bad. I want to know who killed them also.” Amelia responded.


    “Yourte parents, what are their names, please?”


    “ra and Stanley Cooper.”


    Nichs nodded and kept his eyes on hisputer for a while before looking up.


    “Okay, Ma’am. Give me a few days to dig up information about them. I would also pry into the lives


    of other family rtives if you don’t mind.”


    “I don’t mind at all. The other family members include my Uncle Freddie and his children. Stanley


    had only one brother.”


    Nichs smiled and bounced his head. “I’d have dug that up myself. But you don’t have to worry. I’ll


    start working on it as soon as possible.”


    Amelia smiled faintly and stretched forth her hand to Nichs. “Thank you so much, Sir.”


    She stood up and picked up her bag. She headed out of the office and met James sitting outside,


    next to the door. He was waiting for her to finish her meeting with Nichs.


    “Babe.” She called, and he looked up and saw her standing next to him.


    “Heyy…” He hurriedly threw his phone into his breast pocket and stood up.


    “Are you okay?” He asked, cupping her face sweetly and she nodded in his hands.


    “Yes, I am.” She responded softly, reflecting a smile.


    James stared at her face for a long while, and he furrowed his eyebrows as he did.


    “What’s wrong?” Amelia asked after noticing the look on his face.


    “You have been looking pale these days. Are you okay?” He asked worriedly.


    Amelia heaved a sigh and bobbed. “Yes, I am. I’m just a little tired. That’s all.”


    “Since when?”


    “For a few days now. It’s probably nothing, babe. It may be because of the whole thing going on with


    my parents and uncle.”


    James exhaled softly and reluctantly nodded. “You need to take it easy on yourself, okay? I don’t


    want this affecting you way too much.”


    Amelia chuckled and shook her head. “You don’t have to…” She suddenly grasped her mouth with


    her hands and her eyes widened.


    “What’s wrong?!” James asked, almost having a heart attack. He let go of her head and she began


    to run off.


    “Amelia! Where are you going?” James yelled as he ran after her.


    As she ran past people in thepany, they knew she needed to use the restroom, so they led her


    to the restroom by pointing their fingers to where it was.


    She barged into the restroom and headed for the basin. She lowered her head and began to puke.


    As she vomited, she was all weak.


    James stood next to her, rubbing her back softly. “Take it easy, okay?” He uttered, and she bounced


    her head.


    She rinsed her mouth and raised her head. She looked into the mirror and stared at James’ face.


    “You don’t look good, Amelia. I need to take you to the hospital.”


    “No, James. I’m fine.”


    “No! I’m taking you to the hospital and that is final, okay?”


    Amelia exhaled and nodded. James held her hand and they both walked out of the restroom after


    she rinsed her face properly.

    Amelia and James were invited into the doctor’s office after running some series of tests on her.


    “How are you feeling, Mrs. Amelia?” The doctor asked with a bright smile.


    James and Amelia exchanged looks before she answered to the doctor.


    “I’m fine, Doctor. Please, what did you find out?” She inquired anxiously.


    “Well, congrattions Mrs Parker, you are a week pregnant.”


    James’ eyes popped wide open, and he yanked forward in excitement. “For real? She is


    pregnant?!” James uttered, almost screaming.


    “Yes, she is! That is why she is all pale and weak.”


    James broke intoughter and looked at Amelia, who didn’t seem so happy about the news.


    “We are going to be parents. I’m going to be a father!” James grabbed her hands as he couldn’t


    contain his excitement.


    He aggressively kissed her hand, and without paying much attention to her countenance, he turned


    to look at the doctor again.


    “Thank you so much, Doctor! This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time!”


    “I’m happy for you too, Mr. James. Ma’am, please try to take care of yourself. More rest and less


    work will be needed.”


    Amelia swallowed and lowered her head. ‘I’ll be having a baby. Why am I not so excited about this?’


    She raised her head and saw James still grinning widely. He was having a chat with the doctor but


    her mind had wandered so far away that she couldn’t hear what they were discussing.


    ‘Do I even have what it takes to be a mother? Am I ready for this?’ These thoughts haunted her,


    making her even more terrified.


    “Amelia! Amelia! Are you okay?” James called her out of her thoughts.


    She snapped out and found them staring at her. “You seem so far away. Are you alright?” James


    further asked.


    She let out a feeble smile and bounced her head. “I’m alright.” She tried to contain her fears, but


    James could clearly see it.


    “Doctor, we’ll love to leave now. We’ll keep in touch.”


    “Okay, Mr. Parker. Congrattions once again.” They shook hands, and Amelia stood up.


    She shuffled out of the office and James hurriedly followed behind her.


    “Amelia, what is wrong? Why aren’t you excited about this?” James stood in front of her.


    Tears heated her eyes in no time, as she began to fear the future. She began to sob, making James


    even more confused.


    “Why are you crying? Please, say something.” He embraced het softly and brushed her hair with his


    hand.


    “I’m scared.” She mumbled.


    “Scared? Why are you scared?” James asked, moving back a little so he could see her face.


    “What if I’m not a good mother? I’m still very young. I don’t know what parenting is all about. I still


    have too much to figure out about my parents. What am I supposed to do?”


    “Hey, hey, hey. Take it slow, Amelia. You can’t be perfect overnight. Don’t be so hard on yourself.


    Honestly, to me, you would be an amazing mother. You’ve been an amazing wife, I’m staying the


    obvious.”


    He rubbed her cheeks with his thumb and let out an encouraging smile. Amelia divulged a faint


    smile and bounced her head.


    She cleaned her tears off her face and tried to be happy about a new phase opening in her life.


    “Please be happy. Don’t make me feel bad about all of these! I’m so excited!” James made a little


    jump, and Amelia chuckled.


    “I’ll need you with me all the time, James. I can’t do it alone.” She pouted and fiddled with her


    fingers.


    “Amelia, trust me. I’ll be here with you, no matter what happens. I’ll never leave your side. I am your


    husband and it is my responsibility to stay with you forever.”


    James’ words soothe Amelia’s worrying heart, and she finally smiled heartily.


    “I love you, James.” She uttered and hugged him tightly again.


    “I love you too! And the baby!” He responded, and they bothughed.

    Elena sat on her bed, in her room, with her headphones on. She increased the volume to the


    highest, so that she could hear nothing from her surroundings.


    Her father, Hopper had told her a little part of what happened before she was born, but Elena didn’t


    show that she cared.


    She told him that since she fell on the rich andfortable side, she wasn’t concerned about what


    happened before she was born.


    She didn’t bother thinking about it, and this made Hopper even more reluctant to tell her about her


    twin sister. He left it to Penelope, since she gave her more listening ears than him.


    Penelope kept knocking and knocking on the door, and when she didn’t get any response, she was


    forced to open the door and invite herself in.


    “Elena.” She called, and she found out she had her headphones on.


    “Not again.” Penelope mumbled and walked up to her. She tapped her slightly on the shoulders,


    and Elena jumped in fright.


    “What the f**k!” She yelled and turned back to see it was her mother.


    “Mom! Why did you do that? You scared the hell out of me!” She yelled in anger and pulled the


    headphones from her head.


    “I’m sorry! I kept knocking but you never answered.”


    “I was having my quiet time. You should have waited for me toe downstairs.” She mumbled and


    went on to pause the music she yed on her phone.


    “I couldn’t wait, Elena. I have something very important to tell you.” Penelope said, and Elena rolled


    her eyes.


    “Please don’t tell me you want to talk to me about what happened before I was born, because I


    don’t really care.” She replied nonchntly.


    “Don’t talk like that, Elena. There’s more you need to know. Not only do you have a surrogate


    mother, but you also have a twin sister.”


    “Mom, I told you…” Elena’s eyes widened all of a sudden immediately after the words sank into her


    brain.


    “I have a twin?”


    “Yes, you do, baby. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you this…”


    “Why?! Why didn’t you tell me? Why are you just telling me this?! I have wanted a sister my whole


    life and you kept this from me?!” Elena yelled and sprang to her feet.


    “What?! Elena, I asked you when you were much younger if you would love a sibling, but you said


    No. You told me you don’t want to share your parents with anyone.”

    “I was waiting for the right time, Elena! I’m sorry, okay?”


    Elena clenched her jaws and stared at her mother for a very long time before speaking up again.


    “This twin of mine. Where is she? Where have you kept her all these years? Does she have another


    family? Did shee first? When am I going to see her? What is her name?”


    Penelope smiled at Elena’s curiosity. She never thought it would be so easy. She thought she would


    get scolded for having a twin in the first ce.


    “Okay, take it easy. I’ll answer your questions one after the other. I never knew you would want to


    have a sister so bad.”


    Elena heaved a sigh and sat on the bed again.


    “I’ve always wanted someone like me to talk to. You and dad are always busy with work and have


    less time for me. You should have told me this earlier.”


    “I’m sorry, okay? I was scared you wouldn’t like the whole thing.”


    “I’ve been lonely for so long. I need a partner. Tell me her name.” A smile slowly lit up her face, and


    Penelope became the happiest mother on earth at that very moment.


    “Her name is Amelia.” Penelope answered with a smile.


    The smile on Elena’s face washed off immediately, and she gulped hard.


    “What’s wrong, Elena?”


    “Which of the Amelia’s?” Elena’s voice was low.


    “She is married now, so she is…”


    “Never! It is never going to happen!” She smacked, cutting Penelope short.


    “What? Wait! Why? You seemed so eager to know her a minute ago.”


    “I will never see her as my sister!”


    “Elena…”


    “Get out, Mom! Leave me alone!” She yelled and broke into tears immediately.

    “Go! Now!” She screamed, grabbing her head.
