Chapter 96

    Chapter 96

Dorian briskly approached, his curiosity evident. “What were you just saying?” he asked

    Gisele.

Despite feeling the urge to touch her, he hesitated, mindful of what he had learned about post–

traumatic stress disorder during his research in his study. He didn’t want to inadvertently trigger any

    distress for her.

Gisele casually met his gaze with a neutral expression. “Oh, you mean when I was asking if

    Sesame would miss Peanut?”

Despite her calm demeanor, a spark of anticipation flickered in Gisele’s heart. Did Dorian still

    remember Peanut?

“Peanut? Is Sesame its mother?” Dorian gestured toward Sesame, noting the uncanny

resemnce between the two cats, right down to the patch of fur on their foreheads.

One might even argue they were identical!

Dorian scrutinized Sesame intently, a cold chuckle escaping his lips. “What’s the point of letting this

animal on the bed? A mere pet can earn your affection, yet you seem to disregard human

    rtionships.”

“Sesame is more than just a pet! It’s Peanut’s offspring, and Peanut has always been

affectionate since it was a kitten. They’ve never harmed anyone!” Gisele retorted, holding

    Sesame close.

Sesame seemed to understand Dorian’s words and let out a discontented “meow.”

Confusion flickered in Dorian’s eyes. Was Gisele familiar with Peanut?

Peanut was the cat he had cherished since childhood, his only pet throughout his life.

Since returning to the Jefferson family, Celeste had forbidden him from keeping pets and even

insisted he get rid of Peanut.

Nheless, Dorian couldn’t bring himself to do it and ended up secretly releasing Peanut.

The only other person who knew about Peanut’s existence at the time was someone else…

    and that

    person…

Gisele regarded Dorian warily as she asked, “Is there anything else?”

If he insisted on her getting rid of Sesame, she would take Sesame to Angie’s apartment. After all,

she couldn’t bear to abandon Peanut’s offspring.

“You’re impossible!” Dorian pretended to be angry as he turned away, taking a few steps before

    ncing back at her.

Gisele’s previously calm demeanor shifted abruptly. Clutching Sesame tightly, her eyes widened

    with resolve.

“Sesame is clean! It goes to the bathroom and even flushes the toilet on its own. It stays in my

room, so you can’t force it out!”

“Remember toe downstairs for dinner,” Dorian reminded her. As he nced at the innocent–

looking Sesame, a flicker of emotion passed through his eyes.

With numerous cats resembling each other and sharingmon names, it seemed highly unlikely

that Gisele could be the little girl he had encountered in his childhood.

Puzzled, Gisele watched Dorian leave in a huff. Why was he so angry?

    “Bing bing.”

The phone on the bedside table began to ring.

Releasing Sesame, Gisele picked up the phone. Seeing Den’s iing video call, she hastily

got out of bed and dashed barefoot to the door.

“Dorian, wait!” Gisele hurried past the spilled soup, racing to catch

    up with Dorian.

With a somber expression, Dorian turned around, but before he could utter a word, Gisele had

already answered the video call. Wearing a cheerful smile, she greeted, “Hi, Grandpa

    Den.”

“Why’s that little rascal standing there with such a gloomy face? What’s he up to?” Den

of excitement. grumbled aloud, though inside, he felt a surge

It seemed that his long–awaited great–grandchild was on the way.

Gisele turned around, feigning surprise as she covered her mouth. “Don, why are you still here?

Didn’t you mention having an international conference call? You should prioritize your work; I can

    manage on my own.”

“Gisele, you’re truly mature beyond your years,” Den remarked, his tone filled with admiration.

With a gentle smile, Gisele replied, “It’s fine, Grandpa Den. After all, work is important, and

rushing can lead to mistakes. With your wealth of experience, I’m sure you understand these things

    better than I do.”

“Okay, okay, you’re right. As long as you and Dorian are doing well, I’m at ease,” Den

egressed his concern for Gisele before allowing her to rest.

With the conversation with Den now settled, Gisele breathed a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, Dorian frowned as he stood at the top of the stairs, his gaze inadvertently drawn to

    Gisele’s pristine feet.
