Chapter 22
Den dried his hands with the towel prepared by the housekeepers and shot Celeste and Za an
icy look.
“What? Did you forget everything you said?”
The air in the massive living room seemingly stilled from his domineering presence.
Za swiftly went over and took his arm in hers. “It’s no big deal,” she exined with a
smile.
“Jessie told us that Dorian and Gisele didn’t go homest night. Apparently they were on some
show. She called to ask if we should check up on their whereabouts.”
She then led Den to the lounge chair while repeatedly blinking at Celeste.
Surely she wasn’t going to tell him the truth?
“Th–That’s right, Dad. Don’t think too much of it. This is the first time I’ve heard about them going on
a show together. I was just wondering if they would go through any hardships,” Celeste lied
awkwardly.
Den sat down on the couch and scoffed. He didn’t believe a single word they said.
If he hadn’t forced Dorian to return to Jefferson Manor two days ago, thetter wouldn’t
have even known where the manor was!
His silence made Celeste and Za incredibly uneasy.
Suddenly, the house phone rang.
Worried that it might be Jessie, Za walked toward the phone in a hurry. “I’ll get it!” she said
unnaturally.
“I’ll get it,” Den said in a solemn voice.
He walked over with his cane and sat down next to the phone. He didn’t speak when he picked up.
Celeste and Za didn’t know what the person on the other end said, but they felt like Den’s
expression worsened as the conversation went on. The air around him felt colder than a freezer.
He hummed in response to something said on the other line before hanging up.
The two women shot each other a look before Celeste asked, “Dad… Who was that?”
“Who did you think it was?” He looked extremely angry.
He scoffed and continued, “Did you think I wouldn’t find out if you kept the news from me?”
Za ducked slightly.
Despite being afraid, she still insisted stubbornly, saying, “Dad, this is that brat’s own
doing. Why should we be the ones to clean up after her?”
“How dare you?” Den slowly stood up and gave her a piercing re.
“Based on how fast things are escting in the media, did you think that you wouldn’t be affected?”
he asked with a coldugh.
Then, he said, “When you decided to sweep it under the rug instead of looking for a solution, did
you think that the public is blind?”
Za pursed her l*ps and didn’t dare to offer a counterargument.
“The situation is not as bad as you say it is, right, Dad? Besides, isn’t Don with her? Even if he
doesn’t like her, surely he’d perform a thorough investigation for the sake of our family’s image.”
Celeste tried to ease the tension between them. Laughing, she then walked over to Den to
take his arm.
He dodged her hand and said, in a domineering manner, “You better pray that nothing happens.”

He then headed upstairs alone.
On the phone call earlier, the police informed him that Gisele was a suspect in a murder.
Additionally, she was currently in custody at a nearby hospital as she was unconscious and had a
high fever.
They were still investigating, but the station had called him to give him a heads up.
After Bernard was finished at the crime scene, he found out that Gisele had a fever and rushed over
to the hospital to see her.
The air conditioning in the room was at a very low temperature setting, but Gisele’s temperature
refused to decrease.
Her eyebrows were knitted together, and her ch*eks were tainted pink. Her beautiful l*ps were dry
and chapped.

Bernard sat down beside the bed and reached out to touch her forehead. He instinctively retracted
his hand when it came into contact with her burning skin.
Unconscious, Gisele suddenly reached out and grabbed his hand. “D–Don’t leave,” she mumbled.
