    Chapter 4 Werewolf?

Stepping out of the old man’s house, Glenn suddenly felt as if he was being watched.

He instinctively looked in the direction of the feeling, his gaze landing on the second floor of the house across the street.

All was quiet there, no sign of anything unusual—only darkness beyond the windows.

“Who lives there?” Glenn murmured, as if asking someone else, yet also himself.

Flipping through memories again, he was certain he’d never seen the owner of the house opposite the old man’s.

    “Heheh…”

A hoarse, low laugh came from behind him, drawing Glenn’s attention.

He looked at the old man sitting in the house, half-hidden in the darkness.

“The guy across the street is quite wealthy. You might consider paying him a visit.”

This old man… Glenn ignored him, replying flatly: “I’ll think about it.”

    ……

Walking out of the town, Glenn headed for the place where he’d been attacked last night. He wanted to retrieve that revolver.

Now that he’d transmigrated, protecting his life was paramount; comfort could come later.

In his past life, the people he cared about had already passed away, and the achievements he’d wanted to accomplish were mostly done.

His life before transmigrating had been fairly complete, so he didn’t resist this new reality much.

Though the town still looked eerie by day, there was no obvious danger—otherwise, the original host would have died long ago.

He saw no other townsfolk on the road, just himself, with hardly any birdsong.

When Glenn returned to the spot where he’d woken up yesterday, the scene before him raised his alertness.

The revolver was obvious; he spotted it at a glance.

But the corpse had become a pile of minced meat and scalp-attached hair.

There are beasts here? Glenn felt a chill creep up his spine.

He stepped forward to pick up the revolver, planning to leave quickly, but suddenly smelled an odor that instinctively made him uncomfortable.

Unable to pinpoint the source, Glenn stayed still, scanning left and right, fingers tightening around the shotgun stolen from the old man.

He’d checked: it held three rounds, enough for ordinary beasts.

The scent grew stronger—something terrifying was approaching!

This place really was… Glenn remained calm outwardly, but his mind was on high alert.

A faint sound reached his ears, like a creature stepping on dry leaves.

The sound drew closer, so subtle that only Glenn’s inexplicably sharp hearing picked it up.

Each footstep seemed to fall in time with his heartbeat, making sweat bead on his forehead.

He still couldn’t determine the direction, and saw nothing in his field of vision. The passive waiting for danger infuriated him.

    sough……

The sound suddenly vanished, silence returning—definitely not a good sign.

Abruptly, Glenn felt every hair on his body stand on end, his back turning icy cold.

    Fuck! It’s behind me!

He cursed inwardly, flipping sideways at incredible speed—but the expected attack didn’t come.

    Confused, Glenn crouched to look.

The danger was indeed behind him.

It was a black beast the size of a horse, resembling a wolf but with a single eye in the center of its forehead. Its head was disproportionately large, jaws splitting to the neck, grotesque fangs half-exposed—terrifying at first glance.

The monster now watched Glenn quietly, vigilance in its single eye.

Silently aiming the shotgun at it, Glenn wasn’t sure if the gun could kill this thing. With no memory of it, he wouldn’t fire unless it showed aggression.

Transparent drool fell like a string of pearls, the monster repeatedly licking its snout as if craving something.

Human and beast stared at each other for a few seconds.

Finally, the monster inched closer, all sharp teeth now bared, a low growl rumbling in its throat.

Glenn knew he couldn’t defeat such a massive beast up close, so he fired decisively!

    Bang!

Blood erupted on the beast’s forehead, eliciting a howl.

But Glenn saw clearly: the bullet hadn’t penetrated. Metal glinted in the flesh above its single eye.

He didn’t hesitate, chambering a second round and firing again!

But the beast gave him no chance.

In Glenn’s widened eyes, it moved at an impossible speed, dodging the bullet by a hair.

“Shit!” Glenn aimed for a third shot, but a coppery wind hit his face—ivory fangs were inches from him!

“Get off!” Glenn threw himself backward, twisting his waist sharply to land a powerful roundhouse kick to the beast’s chin.

Years of combat experience were ingrained in his soul, even in this unfamiliar body.

On impact, Glenn felt as if he’d kicked iron, his foot numbing from the vibration.

But the kick was full-force. With his enhanced physique, the beast’s 800-kilogram body was sent flying backward, flipping into a backhand spring!

Glenn fell to the grass from the momentum but quickly sprang up in a backflip to his feet.

The beast, stunned by the kick, realized Glenn wasn’t easy prey and hesitated rather than attacking again.

Glenn panted, his kicking leg trembling, but he couldn’t show weakness—any sign of fear would invite a brutal kill.

Whether it had tasted human flesh or was just instinctive, the beast paced for a few seconds before lunging again.

Glenn tried to dodge, but their speeds were incomparable. His ankle was caught in the monster’s jaws, and as it whipped its head, he was sent spinning violently.

His body slammed into the ground, pain overwhelming him. As his vision cleared, he saw the gaping maw above, death closer than ever, his heart pounding wildly.

In an instant, the substance filling his veins surged. Acting on instinct, his body underwent a dramatic transformation, and his right hand swung involuntarily.

A ripping sound tore through the air, followed by the beast’s wail, echoing through the forest.

Glenn’s vision was shrouded in a veil of blood, his mind flooded with a craving for slaughter, a hunger for blood and destruction!

He’d wanted to kill the beast anyway, so he attacked, the two tearing into each other.

Equal in strength, but Glenn retained his combat instincts, easily gaining the upper hand.

In less than a moment, the beast’s flesh was torn open, bone exposed, its body horribly mutilated.

After a few more blows, it was pinned to the ground by Glenn, whining in submission.

Just as he was about to finish it, a sliver of clarity returned to his frenzied eyes, followed by full rationality.

He froze, feeling the violence within, wearing a puzzled expression.

Looking down at his hand pinning the beast: steel-black fur like needles covered his arm, sharp claws gleaming. The wolfish snout in his lower field of vision told the truth.

    He had become a werewolf!
