Setting Me Up
Pearl was really good at suppressing her emotions by busying herself with her job and studies. She
had mastered it during the past seven years.
The afternoon Zellweger Group announced Richard and Adriana''s wedding, she''dpleted totally
three operations. She went home at 11.pm and was so tired that she even had no strength left to take a
shower, except toy on sofa.
She then got a a voice message from Ethan.
Pearl turned on the speaker and yed the message. "Babe! I I''ll be back two dayster! Wait for me!"
The word "babe" made the hair at the back of her neck stand. "No, you''d better note back." She
quickly replied.
"How could I? I wanna check out my precious daughter! You''re done for if you''re not taking good care
of her!" Ethan said.
Due to his yboy personality, Ethan could not live a peaceful life, so he devoted all his love for Bonny.
Bonny was actually simr as Ethan in some way.
Refusing to talk further with Ethan, Pearl left her phone on the sofa and went to take a shower.
There were many things in her mind. First, she had Dr. Wale''s thesis to worry about. Also, she had to
do lots of operations for the next few days and will get her new job at the Ocpeace Medical University
soon. She couldn''t think of any other things now.
For the next week, Pearl was busy in the hospital.
She didn''t need to worry about her children since they were staying with her father. She worked
overtime almost everyday. Even Dr. Wale was a little worried about her.
"I''ll arrange someone else do the operation tonight, okay? Why are you working so hardtely?"
"I''m fine." Pearl took a sip of tea and said, "I''ll go home when I''m finish it."
"Enough." Dr. Wale shot her a re. "Go home early today. Look at yourself! If you keep working like
this, you''re gonna look like a 40-year-old woman."
Then Dr. Wale turned towards the doctor next to him, "I''ll do the operation tonight. If the patient''s
unwilling topromise, dy it to next week."
The doctor smiled, "But you''re the top surgeon here! no patient would turn you down."
Dr. Wale stared at Pearl, teasing: "I fear that this hardworkingdy over here will soon take my ce in
this hospital."
Pearl was speechless. Looking at them, she just smiled.
Since her operation has been canceled, Pearl was about to pick up her children from her father when
she received a call.
It was an unsaved number. "Hello?" Pearl answered it suspiciously.
"Is this Ms Yonng?"
The female voice sounded a bit familiar. Pearl finally recognised it after a moment and asked, "Oh, is
this Miss Perez?"
Miss Perez was responsible for student admission procedures of BlueSky Elementary School.
After she paid the tuition fees, Pearl was informed that her children could begin their schooling in
September.
"Yeah, it''s me."
"Miss Perez, what can I do for you?"
"There were some problems with your children''s applications. I''m afraid they cannot start schooling this
September."
"What? Why?" Pearl''s face became serious. "But I''ve already submitted all the required documents!
Including the tuition fees!"
"I''m sorry, but it''s a littleplicated. How about this? I''ll make an appointment for you toe to the
school and I''ll refund the fees you''ve paid. I''m really sorry about this."
Pearl nced at her watch and said, "How about now? I can go there."
Miss Perez was stunned for a moment and then said, "Okay. Let''s talkter."
After hanging up, Pearl took out her car keys and drove to the school.
It was unreasonable! She had given everything the school had asked for before she paid the fees. Why
did the school now im that her application was problematic?
It took her 20 minutes to reach the school. In the office, Miss Perez politely took out two sets of
application forms which was written ''failed'' and handed them to Pearl.
"Why? I need a reason." Pearl was very upset.
"I''m sorry, Ms Yonng. But I don''t know the specific reason. It was a decision made by the headmaster."
On her way driving to school, Pearl had received a message from the bank to inform her that she had
received a refund transfer of 40,000 dors into her ount.
"Can''t you just give me a proper exnation?"
"I''m very sorry, Ms Yonng. You''d better apply to another school before the semester starts."
Miss Perez only apologised to all of Pearl''s questions. But she never told her the real reason why the
applications were failed.
Pearl knew it was futile even if she dragged on. Then she asked, "Miss Perez, perhaps you have things
that you can''t share with me. I''ll just ask you one thing: is someone setting me up?"
Miss Perez frowned but said nothing.
Pearl understood it immediately. "I see. Thank you then."
She knew that there was someone who didn''t want her to stay in Kityall since the very first day.
There were three events that foreshadowed her conclusion. The rumours at the hospital, the injury she
got from the drama crew, and the problem now with her children''s school admission.
Who could it be? Mrs. Zellweger, or Adriana?
Coming out of the school, Pearl made a phone call. She would never call her if it were not for her
children''s sake,
After it was connected, female voice was heard, "Hello?"
"It''s me. Pearl. "
"Pearl? What''s wrong? Why do you suddenly call me?"
"It was you, wasn''t it? You did something to my children''s school application." Pearl refused to beat
around the bush.
