Bald

The shift of vision was nauseating, my body failed to even walk properly, I couldn''t even see properly.

My blurry eyes, my burnt regenerating flesh, my body depraved of water, dehydration...

A massive headache assaulted my brain, my lungs felt like they were on fire, my senses of smell and hearing started to fade.

    It was hell.

I don''t know where I am, I don''t know where the fog took me, I don''t even know what I''m doing.

Everything was blurry, a blurry shade or gray, small lumps of light decorated it.

    I assume those are lights.

I stumbled, using the the walls or whatever it was as support and made my way forward.

    Water.

    Liquid.

    Anything.

    Anything to satisfy my thirst.

    Please.

    Anything.

My throat was so dry it felt as if I swallowed a lump of coiled thorny vines, each swallow of saliva felt like hell.

    Dammit.

    Dammit.

    Dammit.

    Why.

    Why?

    Why?!

My vision blurred further, the dizziness stripped me of my sense of direction, only my nails...my fingers held on.

Held onto the cold hard brick wall.

    But soon it will fall.

    Soon.

Not now, soon, which means I still have time.

Incomprehensible colours danced in my vision, they twisted, they absorbed, they shrunk, they expanded...

    Just ignore them.

    Then, suddenly!

Something, no, someone or whatever it was collided into me.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

Or did I collide onto them?

    I don''t know.

My hand dropped from the wall, my balance left the floor, a shriek entered my ear but I ignored it.

    Whatever it was, I''m sorry.

I fell onto it, a humanoid creature, its voice came out in shrieks and cries of pain and terror.

It struggled under my body, under my weight as we both fell to the ground.

I kept my body optimal position as not to let the creature escape.

    After all, I''m thirsty.

    Blood is liquid.

I just need it for the satisfaction, to give my parched throat a release.

We both fell to the ground and I didn''t let it escape.

I trapped it under my body, its meaningless struggle was ignored and although its cries were quite pitiful, I didn''t care.

    I just...

I opened my mouth, my jaw creaked, it was difficult to even breath as of now, it was miracle I was even able to walk and think.

I opened my mouth with great difficulty and bit onto flesh.

    Coarse, rotten, mangled flesh.

    Disgusting.

    Repulsive.

But I didn''t remove my mouth.

    Why?

    Blood.

    Liquid.

    Water.

    Thirst.

I sucked in whatever it was into my mouth, into my throat, into my stomach to slap away the hands of thirst that gripped my throat.

Its cries became louder, its struggles became more frantic, however, it couldn''t escape.

    Not until I''m satisfied.

    I''m sorry.

    Forgive me.

    It''s just how it is.

I kept on sucking, it was cold, odourless, tasteless but I knew it was something a human wasn''t supposed to consume.

But can I be considered human?

    Ofcourse I can.

    I''m human, no matter what.

    Desperation leads to regretful actions.

    But this one...

    I wouldn''t regret this.

    Maybe.

I layed there, on top, sucking out its life, eating its flesh when I regained more strength until I could fully replenish myself.

    I was desperate.

    But not regretful.

    I won''t be regretful.

    ********

    Liar.

I leaned against the cold brick walls, cold blood stained my forearms and my face.

I stared at the dead humanoid creature with dull eyes, I could still feel its mangled flesh stuck between my teeth.

    Liar.

    I''m a liar.

I stared at the humano crea-, no, I stared at the human.

    The dead human.

The dead that I have killed.

With my own hands, with my own teeth.

She, yes it was a woman, had long black hair and fair skin.

    That''s all that remained.

Only her skin and hair were her distinguishable features, half her scalp was even missing.

She laid on a puddle of her own blood, my handiwork.

    Dammit.

    I...

    I ate a human.

    For survival.

    Dammit.

It left a bad after taste in my mouth now.

    I regret it, mostly.

No, scratch that, partially or maybe even less.

It was between her and me and although I can''t die, it doesn''t mean I''m invincible.

I still have mortal urges and needs.

    I''m still mortal.

    Bound by the material world.

I then gave a few glances towards my left and right, towards the long hallway lit by torches.

I sighed and leaned even further back, I gently closed my eyes as the massive headache started to subside.

    Now what?

I entered an unknown dungeon? Labrynth? Or whatever it was and the first thing I did was cannibalise a fellow human.

    Out of survival, of course.

I regretted it but that regret quickly vanished after I gained clarity.

What is a human doing here anyways?

It can''t be an adventurer, not this weak and she didn''t seem to have any weapon on her.

Speaking of weapons, somehow I still held onto the axe subconsciously through my way here.

    ''Subconsciously.''

Then, what should I do now?

    Where even am I?

Is this a dungeon or a labrynth? If it is I hope it''s the former and not the latter.

A dungeon was more structured than a labrynth after all.

A labrynth is more flexible, no, it''s more chaotic.

    A death filled maze.

That''s not even the worst part.

I dug into my memories, those nights of continuously memorising the explorer pages.

A structure like a dungeon or a labrynth have special attributes attached to them.

The major one is that they disappear.

They vanish after a fixed amount of time.

No one knows how to calculate this.

So it is adviced to leave as soon as possible.

Then there are special attributes like treasures or any of that sort.

These structures will vanish after a period of time, sometimes even treasuries will form within them.

The main objective is to leave as soon as possible, of course.

The question is, should I search for valuables or any of that sort?

Even though I don''t know the time limit...

I opened my eyes once again, my gaze returned to that dead ''human'', my hand tightened around axe as I slowly stood up.

My internet has already been piqued when I found ''humans'' here.

It would be a shame if I left without knowing their origins, wouldn''t it?

I ran a hand through my hair, or what was supposed to be my hair.

I was bald, well mostly, most of my hair was burned away although a bald head might have looked better than what I have right now.

I sighed and gazed at the blue smoky soul beside me, he gazed at me too.

After all, the ''human'' wasn''t the only anamoly.

    The fog.

    There was no fog.

Or atleast there was no fog in the observable distance.

    "Let''s go."

A simple command and that''s all it took for Sero to start moving and for me to follow him.

Into the fogless hallways guided by torches, however, I was guided by this blue soul.

    I was–

    Bald, naked, confused and curious.

    The soul was–

    Indifferent.

As I, Cassian, followed the soulless blue soul, I felt as if he had forgotten something important.

Something I wasn''t supposed to forget.

Something I was supposed to remember forever.

Something that felt like sin to forget.

    But I forgot.
