Chapter 55: I Won’t Cry
Hayden’s words were so intriguing.
Joseph was also not someone to be trifled with. He said explicitly, “Hayden doesn’t give a shit to the
fortune of the Downey family. If you deliberately make things difficult for her for this reason, I don’t mind
talking to Hayden’s father in person. I think Mr. Downey probably is kept in the dark about her
domineering daughter bullying and scheming against her pure sister.”
Due to Joseph’s presence, the onlookers quickly changed their attitudes towards the matter and those
who knew about the truth yet didn’t dare to spill it out also began to talk in whispers.
“I heard that Mr. Downey’s marriage with his current wife is a second marriage. His first wife had given
birth to a daughter back then. I guess thisdy is that daughter.”
“That seems to be the case. So Chelsea Downey is the illegitimate one, right?”
“Probably. The daughter of Mr. Downey’s first wife never showed up in front of the public before and
therefore few people know her. But we can deduce from this that Mr. Downey has protected this
daughter well.”
Chelsea shivered all over as she was so furious when seeing that her image as the legitimate daughter
of the Downey family that she had been painstakingly built over the years was going to be ruined. Her
boyfriend, who had been standing by her side, suddenly turned around and left. Chelsea stomped her
feet and shouted, “Byron White, where are you going?” She then hurriedly chased after him.
Chelsea left the bridegroom Kingsley and the bride Michelle behind.
Kingsley’s parents walked over after hearing about themotion here. When they saw Hayden, they
were stunned for a while. But as they had experienced a lot of big events, they quietly came to their
own senses and vigorously apologized to Joseph and Hayden. Kingsley’s mother tugged his sleeve
secretly while shooting a re at him.
“Hurry up to apologize to Mr. Beckham. See how you have messed up the matter.”
Knitting his brows, Kingsley nced at Joseph and murmured the word ‘sorry’ reluctantly.
Michelle reacted quickly. Seeing that they were in the unfavorable position now, she quickly changed
her expressions and intimately held up Hayden’s hand all smiles, “There must be some
misunderstandings. Hayden, you and Mr. Beckham are our distinguished guests. Please don’t take it to
your hearts. It’s bad if it dampens your spirits. Let’s open the champagne.”
“Yep. Open the champagne and let it sweep away the bad moods.”
The guest who were watching the show had dispersed, but no one knew what they were thinking

“Sorry for having bothered you. Can we handle this matterter?”
After opening the champagne, Hayden and Joseph walked abreast in the banquet hall. Hayden kept

someone else would handle it. She nodded and shifted to the other topic, asking, “By the way, how
come that you were here? Aren’t you supposed to go to the forest?”
“Your friend brought the two children back. I heard that you came here for your ex-boyfriend’s
engagement banquet and I was curious.”
“Curious?” Hayden’s expressions froze.
“I’m curious about how you look like when you’re crying.”
“Cry? How could it be possible?” Hayden twitched her mouth, “It’s all about the past. Do you think that I
come here to make myself drunk and make a fuss in their engagement banquet?”
“If you can do this, Ste and Noah wouldn’t have threatened me toe here.”
Hayden was a bit stunned and asked in amusement, “So it turns out it is Ste and Noah who asked
you toe here?”
“Yep.”
Hayden felt speechless while at the same time a bit disappointed.
She knew that Noah liked her so much and that Ste wished so much that she and Joseph would
be a couple, so these two clever children could probably havee up with some tricks.
But what disappointed her was that Joseph didn’te to find her on his own will.
When she was lost in her thoughts, she heard Joseph’s teasing words, “On the other hand,paring
to picking up leaves with Noah for the homework of his painting course in the forest, I’m more
interested ining to see what mental preparation you have made that you actually dared to attend
the engagement banquet of your ex-boyfriend who had two-timed you and your hypocritical ex-bestie,
alone.”
“Yuck.” In a miff, Hayden pushed his arm, “Don’t rub it in.”

“How could I know that Chelsea was also present? I was caught off guard.”
“Are you afraid of her?”

Joseph looked down at her and said righteously, “You’re the person who drives my son to school and

Joseph took a step forward, “Don’t you think that I’ve showed you great trust since even if you, the
second daughter of the Downey family, had tampered with your CV and worked as a manager of the
hotel under the control of my group, I didn’t doubt that you would have some other intentions?”
“I have no other intentions.” Hayden hurriedly shook her head, “I purely want to support my family.”
Joseph studied her thoughtfully for a long while and suddenly raised his hand to tuck her messy hair
behind her ears, leaned slightly forward and said in a gentle voice, “I see.”
Hayden blushed.
Kinsley saw the romantic scene from afar. Staring at Hayden’s bright smile and their intimate postures,
he clenched his fists in depression. If he hadn’t made that unwise decision, she should be the woman
who marries him today.
Michelle, who was chitchatting with her besties, happened to turn her head when mentioning about
Kingsley and noticed his gloomy look. Following his lines of gaze, she saw Hayden and the smile on
her face gradually disappeared.
She had tried hard to let Kinsley to forget Hayden thoroughly over the years, but failed.
“Michelle, what are you thinking?” Her bestie’s voice pulled her back to reality.
Michelle stared at her ss for a moment, and then suddenly raised her head and said in a gloomy
voice, “Rena, can you do me a favor?”
Joseph received a phone call from his butler during the engagement banquet and went to the balcony
to answer the call, leaving Hayden to enjoy the food and beverage in a boring state.
“Hayden.”
Hayden looked up and saw two women who were her university roommates back then and two strange
men. One of her roommate who had short hair greeted Hayden enthusiastically, “Hayden, we haven’t
met with each other for so long. You look more beautiful than before.”
“Thank you.” Hayden smiled politely. She had just lived for a year with them in the university times, so
they were not that acquainted with each other and she could barely remember their names.
After exchanging some pleasantries, one of them proposed, “We haven’t met for so long and I think we
should have a toast.”
Hayden had no problem with the proposal. She raised her ss and gulped down the wine in it. But
before she could put down the ss, the other woman raised her own ss, “Oh, and I want to toast
with you too. Hayden, my bed was opposite to yours back them. Do you remember it? Come one, drink
it.”
After finishing the words, she gulped down the wine and said, “You should drink this ss of wine.”
“Yes, I remember it.” Hayden nodded and gulped down the wine unwillingly.
