Chapter 550
Victoria and Cordelia were both slumped over the table, fast asleep, leaving only Brooklyn diligently
nibbling on her club sandwich. As she polished off thest bites, she dutifully settled the bill. Muttering
to herself, she grumbled, “A pair of lushes! How''s a pregnantdy like me supposed to get you two
home?”
She dialed up Ronan, asking him toe and collect Cordelia, and as for Victoria, well, she could just
snooze there until Ronan showed up to handle it.
Meanwhile, in the opulent Grand Millstone Hotel, a wedding was in full swing. The groom was dashing,
the bride was grace personified, and just as they exchanged their wedding presents, a sudden ripple of
unrest stirred through the crowd.
Up on the stage, Jamie and Marian were oblivious to themotion, but down below, the guests were
all too aware of the growing disturbance.
The murmur reached Jamie''s mother, Ava’s ears. The source was a rumor, maliciously spread by
Petra, who had recruited a friend to disseminate the juicy bit of gossip as far and wide as possible.
“Did you hear? Back in the day, Thomas had a fling with na and even helped her start up a film
productionpany. Too bad na turned out to be a heartbreaker, dumped Thomas, and only then
did he find his current wife.”
na had been making a name for herself in Millstone, recognized as a formidable businesswoman far

removed from the typical homemaker.
Ava knew that where there was smoke, there was usually fire. ncing at her husband, she noticed
Thomas'' ashen face and trembling hands, which only served to confirm her suspicions.
Thomas had never uttered a word about na in front of her, as if their paths had never crossed. Ava
had always believed na to be a stranger to her life.
As a devout Christian, Ava believed in the sanctity of "till death do us part," and Thomas had always
been attentive and faithful. It was this very devotion that now made her feel utterly deceived.
The bastard! Ava clenched her fists tightly.
Thomas cast a sidelong nce at Ava, whose face was a mask of steely resolve, silent.
Ava wanted to know where such rumors originated, and how Thomas and na, seemingly worlds
apart, could have ever shared a bed.
Jamie and Marian, now sensing the undercurrent of unrest, neverthelesspleted their wedding
vows.
No sooner had they been pronounced man and wife than Marian turned on Jamie, her frustration
boiling over. “What’s going on? Can''t your family control their own guests?”
“How should I know?” Jamie shot back, his own patience wearing thin.
Ava didn’t linger at the wedding. She sent people to find out who was spreading the rumors and
learned that Cordelia had unearthed the past between na and Thomas upon discovering her own
parentage.
Ava wasn’t concerned with Cordelia’s origins. She was more troubled by the fact that Jamie had invited
Cordelia to stay with him years ago, and Cordelia rejected him when he showed interest. Later,
Cordelia moved back in with the Evans family only to cause a scene now that he was married. What
was her game?
Ava also inquired about Cordelia’s current whereabouts, a name she hadn’t heard in years. Jamie
avoided mentioning Cordelia at all costs, and rumor had it she''d left Millstone.
Today, Ava found out that Cordelia was, indeed, back in Millstone, at the Evans residence.
Ava got into her car and drove straight to Ronan’s house. Thomas might’ve feared Ronan Evans, but
she certainly did not!
