    It was Friday and Cordelia, having no sses, decided to spend her day researching and writing for her


    thesis at home.


    When the door knocked, Cordelia answered it.


    “Callum?” Seeing Callum, Cordelia was both surprised and delighted.


    Callum snuggled against Cordelia as soon as he saw her. There was a certain affection in his eyes for


    her that was hard to miss. Equally, Cordelia couldn''t hide the fondness she felt for him. She crouched


    down, leaned her head against Callum''s forehead for a moment, tears welling up in her eyes, but


    Cordelia held them back.


    Three years had passed without seeing her son, and she hadn''t felt much then. But now that she had


    spent time with him, she was unable to let go. So, when Ronan asked her to take care of their son,


    even though she had her doubts, she agreed.


    “Callum, where''s your dad?” she asked him. Cordelia was worried about the child being in a ce


    where neither of them could see him.


    “Dad left me at the stairwell and went downstairs,” Callum replied.


    “Okay,” Cordelia nced towards the stairs, but there was no sign of Ronan. Perhaps Ronan was


    afraid that if he was there, she''d say no, so he dropped the kid and left.


    As soon as they entered the room, Callum noticed the massive bookshelf in Cordelia’s room.


    “Callum, would you like something to eat? Or maybe read a book?” Cordelia wasn''t used to dealing


    with children and didn''t know what to do.


    “Wow, you''re rich, Cordelia. So many books,” Callum marveled.


    Cordelia chuckled, “Yes, indeed. Does your dad still read often?”


    Callum tilted his head and asked Cordelia, “You know my dad loves to read?”


    Cordelia felt a tad embarrassed, “I know a little.”


    "My dad still sits on the couch and reads often. I don''t know whether he loves to read in bed or


    not."Callum said, tilting his head again. “I don’t sleep in the same bed as him. Cordelia, do you know


    where my dad loves to read?”


    “You…” Cordelia hadn''t expected to be cornered by this little guy.


    “Of course, I meant that your dad likes to read on the couch,” Cordelia replied.


    “Oh, he does love to read,” Callum seemed a bit disappointed.


    “Callum, feel free to pick any book you''d like. If you can''t reach, ask me for help. Also, do you want to


    eat something?” Cordelia thought all kids loved snacks. She was willing to make an effort to y the

    “Um. Cordelia, I want to eat egg tarts. Unfortunately, dad never made them for me. He doesn''t even


    allow our maid to make them, saying they''re high in calories and not good for children,” Callum said


    with a sad face. “Do you know how to make them, Cordelia?”


    “Egg tarts are easy to make. Your dad is too strict,” Cordelia said, heading to the fridge. But she


    realized she didn''t have eggs at home, let alone tart shells. Both of these were avable in the campus


    grocery store. She considered taking Callum there but most people there knew her. If they saw her with


    the "honorary professor’s" child, there might be unwanted gossip.


    She messaged Sally: [Free this afternoon? Can you help me get some tart shells and eggs from the


    grocery store?]


    [Sure, Ms. Haselwood. Making egg tarts for someone?]


    [A little boy.]


    Cordelia picked up a book and started reading it to Callum. Listening to his breathing and watching his


    innocent face, she realized how much she adored this little boy. She couldn''t resist and gently stroked


    Callum''s hair, continuing to read.


    The doorbell rang again. Cordelia thought it was Sally, so she told Callum, “I''ll get the door.”
