Chapter 305

    Chapter 305

Tristi was at the wheel, and Mna rode shotgun with Cordelia and Ronan in the backseat.

"I''m not sure if I should say this, and it''s a bit blunt," Mna observed, peering at Cordelia and Ronan

through the rearview mirror. "Between the temporarily disabled Ronan and pregnant Cordelia, you two

seem to be in a pretty helpless state."

"We have a nanny at home," Ronan countered.

Cordelia had something on her mind. Grant already knew about the babies'' paternity. Ronan was

bound to find out sooner orter. Better to tell him sooner and hope for a sympathetic response.

As they approached a bottleneck in the road, Cordelia suddenly suggested, "Why don''t we go shopping

    for the kids?"

Such a simple statement made Ronan''s heart flutter. He swallowed hard before asking, "What do we

    need to buy?"

"I don''t know, we''re expecting a boy and a girl. Let''s get them some clothes. They''ll be here soon."

Cordelia rubbed her belly. "Once I get more pregnant, we might not have the time."

"Together?" Ronan turned his head to look at her belly.

    "Yes."

"Drop Mna off at the office. You don’t have to wait for us," Ronan told Tristi.

Once out of the car, he and Cordelia walked into the Happy Kids maternity and baby store. The store

wasrge and luxurious, spread over two floors.

Cordelia linked her arm through Ronan''s uninjured one, and they perused the store. She was

astonished by the amount of stuff they needed, bottles, nursing pads, baby shampoo, body wash, and

diapers. But her actual goal today was not to shop for the babies but to tell Ronan he was their father.

She picked up a little boy''s outfit and held it against her belly, then asked Ronan, "Do you think this

    outfit is cute?"

"If you like it, then it''s good."

Choosing baby clothes was beyond Ronan''s expertise.

"You''re the father. Shouldn''t you at least have an opinion?" Cordelia teased.

"You''re the mother; can’t you decide?"

"I can''t. That''s why I''m asking you to help out," Cordelia replied, asking a sales associate, "Do you

have a matching outfit for a girl?"

"Sorry, ma''am, this outfit is only for boys," the associate replied.

"Oh, that''s too bad," Cordelia responded, a bit regretfully. She also had somehow a sinking feeling. She

kind of wanted a daughter. "We''re expecting twins, one of each. We''d like matching outfits."

"Well, let me help you find something," the associate offered.

While Cordelia was busy with the associate, Ronan took a call and didn''t follow. After hanging up, he

called the driver to pick them up. Once he''d paid for their purchases, he carried the bags in his left

hand and got into the car.

"Pulse Technologies has contracted us for their project. And they''ve specifically requested you to take it

on." Ronan informed Cordelia in the car.

"Isn''t that too much work? Why didn''t you decline? Mr. Emerson will be furious. I just epted Lumos

Enterprises Finance Department''s auditing job." Cordelia replied, frowning slightly.

She was starting to suspect that these people were trying to exploit her before she went on maternity

    leave.

"We have investments in thatpany. It''s crucial that we understand their financial situation. I trust

    you," Ronan assured her.

"Do you see me as your confidante?" Cordelia asked, a bit miffed.

    "Aren''t you?" Ronan countered.

Cordelia nodded thoughtfully, thinking, “Typical Ronan, always thinking ahead.”

"I guess they chose us because of your reputation," Cordelia suggested.

"My reputation?" Ronan responded with an ambivalent smile. "I hope so."

The call he''d taken earlier was from the general manager of Pulse Technologies, who had said Edwin

had influenced their final decision to go with Lumos Enterprises Audit Department. He''d even

    emphasized the "excellent auditor, Cordelia."
