Chapter 135

    Chapter 135

Cordelia and Shelley chatted up a storm until the wee hours.

Downstairs, Ronan was waiting. At 8:50, a message popped up from his assistant. A Word document.

His assistant was damn efficient. He had managed to track down Castiel''s old subordinates and his

attending physician to get the lowdown on what happened.

After Castiel fell off the building, he was rushed to Hope Hospital. He had busted his spine, and even

with treatment, he would have been paralyzed from the neck down. He confided to the doc that he

didn’t want to be a burden to his family.

When Shelley heard about a young guy in need of a cornea transnt while discussing Castiel''s

condition with the doc, she felt a pang of regret. She casually brought it up to Castiel in their

    conversation.

Castiel told Cordelia and Shelley that if he kicked the bucket, they should give his corneas to the young

man, and they shouldn''t let the young man feel guilty about it - make it an anonymous donation.

Both Shelley and Cordelia decided to take care of Castiel and not dwell on this.

A weekter, Castiel yanked out his own oxygen tube. But after he passed away, his records

    mysteriously vanished from the hospital.

At that time, there was a guy named Niks in the hospital. He was circling the drain. Niks had a

    daughter, Deanna.

Niks actually died a day after Castiel. That day, two things happened at Hope Hospital. Niks died,

    and Ronan had surgery.

The dean of the hospital happened to be Deanna’s uncle.

In reality, Niks and Castiel didn’t die on the same day. Castiel died a day earlier, but someone had

fudged the records, making it seem like Niks died a day earlier.

As Ronan read, his eyes got a little misty. He couldn''t begin to imagine what Castiel must have felt

when he pulled out his own oxygen tube, or what Deanna must have been going through when she did

    all this.

If it wasn''t for Shelley spilling the beans, he would have been left in the dark for the rest of his life. After

all, all the records were spotless back then. He had no idea there was a guy named Castiel, let alone

    where to start looking.

As for the girl who held his hand, Deanna always imed it was her. However, Cordelia was someone

who didn''t like to talk about things, and even if it was her, she wouldn''t admit it.

Of course, it could have been a stranger.

The document also mentioned Castiel''s likes and quirks:

He had a soft spot for fried steak; he was a whizz at making tacos; Cordelia was his pride and joy; he

never liked using an umbre when he went out and once caught pneumonia.

    No wonder!

Suddenly, a strange emotion gripped Ronan. So, the food Cordelia cooked for him, the umbre she

gave him - who were they really for? She often stared into his eyes, lost in thought. The day she

disappeared without a trace, Ronan finally knew where she had gone. It was the anniversary of her

    dad’s death.

It all clicked. Cordelia''s reason for applying to Lumos Enterprises. He had once asked his assistant to

look into it, but only found out about her school history, nothing about Castiel.

Turned out, it was because her dad''s eyes were in his head.

Suddenly, Ronan didn''t know how to treat Cordelia. Should he treat her as the daughter of the man

who saved his life, or as his wife?

If she was the daughter of his savior, he would give her the world. But if she was his wife, she clearly

wasn''t a good one. Cordelia''s call broke the silence.

"Honey, my mom woke up. I want to chat with her tonight and note home. Is that okay? How about

you go home first?" Cordelia said excitedly.

"Make sure she gets rest. I''ll head out." Ronan''s voice was tired. After he finished, he left.

Listening to the beep sound from the phone, Cordelia thought: What a lousy husband, no empathy at

    all.

Of course, if she thought of him as her personal ATM, that was a different story.

Despite her disappointment, Cordelia was still thrilled. Cordelia didn’t want to tire her mother out. She

also didn’t want her mother to say all she had to say and then never speak again, so she urged her

mom to get some sleep early.

Shey in bed, texting Brooklyn, Adrian, and everyone she knew. She almost sent a group text.

[Your mom woke up? That''s fantastic! Your hard work finally paid off. Congrats! I’ll drop by to see her

    tomorrow.] Brooklyn replied.

    [Cordelia, you''re amazing.] Jamie texted.

Cordelia didn''t know where she was amazing, but she was still thrilled to hear it.

Most people sent messages full of blessings and congrattions to Cordelia. Only Adrian texted, [Now

that she''s awake, is she going to move back home?]

This message brought Cordelia crashing back to earth from cloud nine.
