Chapter 466 Hiding Our Relationship

    Chapter 466 Hiding Our Rtionship

The taxi driver slowed to a stop at the hospital gate. He turned around and took the cash from

Rachel''s hand. He looked at the rearview mirror and said, "Miss, that ck car seems to have been

following us the whole time. Is he your boyfriend?"

    ''ck car?'' Rachel thought.

"I suppose so." With a faint smile in the driver''s direction, she reached out and opened the door.

Once out of the car, she looked behind her and saw that Jack was also getting out of the ck car.

When she saw him walking slowly towards her, Rachel was a little surprised. "Why are you here? I

    thought you were sleeping."

"I had enough sleep." Jack reached out and smoothed back the hair that had been blown onto her

face. "I''d be worried if I didn''t see you arrive at the hospital safely."

"You really needn''t worry," replied Rachel. Although she was pretending that she did not care, she

still felt a strange tugging at her heart strings.

All of a sudden, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. "Rachel." Subconsciously taking two

steps back to keep her distance from Jack, Rachel turned around and saw her colleague running

towards her from the parking lot, holding a cup in her hand and smiling. "I got up early this morning

and made myself some soybean milk. When we get to the officeter, you can have a try. It tastes

    really good."

"Okay." Rachel nodded with a smile.

In the past, unless it was work rted, Rachel seldom had any contact with her colleagues. But

Celia had caused a big change in her life.

As she thought about her, it suddenly urred to Rachel that she had been busy with her own

business for thest few days, and she hadn''t contacted Celia at all, not even a message or phone

call. She didn''t even know how Celia had managed the dinner with Marcus'' families.

Seeing that Rachel was distancing herself from him, as if she didn''t want her colleagues to notice

him, Jack''s face instantly changed to one of disappointment. He frowned and nced at the two of

them. Then he quietly turned around and left. After sitting in his car for a moment, he took out his

mobile phone and typed a message to Rachel.

    "I''m going back."

Rachel felt her phone vibrate. Upon reading these words, she turned around only to see that the

ck car had disappeared. Her colleague patted her on the shoulder and asked, "What''s wrong?

Who were you talking to just now?"

"Just a friend." With a smile on her face, Rachel walked towards the elevator and changed the topic.

"Why did you suddenly remember to make soybean milk this morning?"

When her colleague heard this was to be the topic, she began to chatter, but Rachel didn''t hear a

word. She was thinking back to the message from Jack and wondering whether he might be angry

or sad now, which made her feel unsettled.

But she didn''t regret hiding their rtionship from her colleague.

She didn''t want to spread the news around the whole hospital so soon that she and Jack might get

back together. She felt she wouldn''t be able to bear any more of her colleagues whispering about

her behind her back because she and her husband were separated again.

Seeing that Jack was depressed and listless as soon as he entered the office that morning, Austin

put down his documents and got ready to leave. However, his curiosity pulled him back and he

couldn''t help but stop and ask, "Mr. Fu, are you okay? Is there anything wrong?"

Jack rubbed the space between his eyebrows. "I''m fine," he muttered.

"Okay. Then I''ll go out first," breezed Austin. He knew better than to push the question. Even if he

probed further, he knew Jack didn''t want to say anything. So he turned around and made for the

door. Just as he reached out his hand to touch the doorknob, Jack''s voice came from behind.

    "Austin."

He stopped in his tracks and turned to ask, "Mr. Fu, what can I do for you?"

Jack tapped his fingers on the table and kept silent for a while. Then he said in a low voice, "If

someone''s girlfriend were hiding their rtionship and didn''t want others to know about it, what do

you think would be the reason?"

"Is this about Miss Shen?" Austin replied right off the bat, without thinking too much.

It was not until he saw Jack''s face suddenly darken that he realized that he had said something

wrong. He touched his nose and said awkwardly, "Mr. Fu, I don''t have a girlfriend yet. I really don''t

know how to answer this question."

Jack frowned. "Answer whatever you think."

The corners of Austin''s mouth twitched. It was too difficult to answer this question. If he told the

truth, he was afraid that Jack would be unhappy. But if he didn''t tell him and found an excuse to

prevaricate, he was afraid that Jack would not believe him.

He thought for a long time and said something that he didn''t even believe himself. "Maybe she just

wants to find a suitable time to introduce her boyfriend. She just wants to keep an air of mystery

around the two of them for a bit."

Jack sneered. Obviously, he didn''t believe it.

Seeing his expression, Austin also realized that it was a ridiculous thing to say. He scratched the

back of his head again, before even more awkwardly offering, "Mr. Fu, actually, why doesn''t he just

ask his girlfriend directly? After all, everyone has their own thoughts and ideas. No matter how close

they are, there are some secrets in everyone''s heart.

No one is able to guess what their partner is thinking all of the time."

Upon hearing this second piece of advice, Jack stayed silent. There was a pause as he grabbed the

pen from the table top and turned it around a couple of times in his hand. Then he whispered, "Well,

you can go out. I''ll talk to my friendter."

"Okay." It seemed Austin had redeemed himself. The relief was immense. He hurriedly turned

around and walked outside. Despite not wanting to cause any more damage, he couldn''t help but

whisper on his way out, "Whenever anyone asks questions for a so-called ''friend, '' they are usually

    talking about their own situation."

Jack did not say anything. He frowned slightly and, after a moment of silence, he reached out his

hand to pick up the phone and dialed Rachel''s number. "Hi. Shall we go out for dinner tonight?"

It was pointless trying to randomly guess what she was thinking. Like Austin had said, it was better

    to ask her directly.

Now inside the office, Rachel watched as the director of the executive department pushed the door

open and came in with a stack of documents in her hands. Upon seeing her, Rachel''s eyes and

    brows twitched.

She had been working here long enough to know that when the director appeared, there would be

no good news and some hard working.

Sure enough, this time, the director put the pile of documents in her hands on the table, cracked her

knuckles and then knocked on the table twice for attention. "These are medical records from the

past few years. You can go through all of them and type all the patient information into the

computer. When that''s done, collect the data into a document and send it to me. You have to submit

it to me before you get off work, got it?"

''Before I can leave work?'' Rachel was astonished.

Looking at such a thick stack of old medical records, she knew she probably would not get through

this lot before it was time to leave.

The corners of her mouth twitched. "I''m sorry," she said to the director, "but I don''t think I can finish

it before I get off work. How about we find some other colleagues? That way, we can work together

and finish as soon as possible."

The director frowned and said impatiently, "Do I need you to teach me how to do it? Obviously, I''ve

already given some to someone else. Or did you think these were all of our medical records? If you

have time to bargain with me, you''d better do it quickly."

After that public and rather unnecessary dressing down, Rachel became very aware of the cold

sweat on her forehead. She shook her head helplessly and could do nothing but take the top

medical record from the pile and begin to make the forms diligently.

The time seemed to pass very quickly. Rachel was so busy that she didn''t even have time to drink

water that afternoon. Atst, she hammered out the form just in time to send it to the director''s e-

mail. She was about to clock off when she received the lukewarm evaluation of her work. "Don''t

underestimate your own ability in the future. You always try to drag out your work!"

It was hard to say whether it was praise or criticism.

Rachel had picked up a teacup and was drinking some water. When she saw the words on the

screen, she almost choked and swallowed hard. She quickly typed back a two-word reply on the

    keyboard. "Got it."

The medical records had gotten a little messy. She sorted them and then returned them to the

archives. When she returned to her office, she found that it was already twenty minutes after the

time she was supposed to finish work.

Jack would be waiting for her. Would he be anxious?

Rachel had thought Jack might have called her several times, but when she looked at her phone,

    she saw that he hadn''t

''Is there something urgent happening at hispany?'' she wondered. Why was he sote? After

thinking for a while, Rachel took out her phone and called Jack. But to her surprise, his phone was

    switched off.

Frowning, she put the phone back on the table and sat down again. After thinking for a while, she

decided that she would just wait a little longer.

Maybe he was dyed or something. Maybe his phone was out of power and he was on the way to

the hospital. If this was the case, it was going to be hard for the two of them to meet up unless she

stayed where he could find her.

After nearly an hour, Jack had neither appeared nor tried to call Rachel.

Then, there was a knock on the door. She looked up at the door subconsciously. Without even

waiting to see who came in, she asked, "Why are you sote?"

She was expecting to see Jack. She wasn''t expecting it to be one of her colleagues.

The colleague stood at the door of Rachel''s office. She rubbed her arm and asked, "Who are you

waiting for? Why haven''t you left yet?"

"I just haven''t." The corners of her mouth twitched in embarrassment. Rachel stood up, picked up

her bag that had been hanging on the side and said gently, "I was dealing with something and just

finished it. I''m going home now."

"I really envy you." The colleague pouted. "I''m still working on the list. With so many medical

records, I don''t think I''ll make it home before tomorrow morning."
