Chapter 455 Delicious Porridge

    Chapter 455 Delicious Porridge

After a moment of silence, Rachel said honestly, "I don''t know either."

"You don''t know either?" Lea adjusted her posture, stretched out her originally crossed legs, and

ced them on Henry''sp, fully enjoying his massage. She continued, "But he''s doing well now. At

least he can help massage your feet. Henry had never done this to me when I was pregnant with

Rita. Anyway, I think that you two should stop fighting and get back together. After all, you''ll have a

    child."

"I''ll think about it," Rachel carefully replied. Her heart was already wavering even before she spoke

to Lea. Now that she had heard her friend''s opinion, her resolve was even more shaken.

On the following morning, Rachel was awakened by delicious scent.

It was something delicate and appetizing, which made her stomach growl. She didn''t eat muchst

night, and she fell asleep hungry.

    Right now, she felt ravenous.

Shey in the bed and stretched like a cat. She pushed up on her elbows to sit up. The door was

gently pushed open from the outside. Jack walked in with a tray in his hand. He smiled like the sun

    and said, "Perfect timing."

"What did you cook? It smells delicious." Rachel tied back her hair with a ponytail and peeked at the

contents of the tray in his hands.

Jack ced the tray on the bedside table. "I cooked porridge using the leftover chicken soup from

    last night. Have a taste."

Rachel epted the spoon offered by Jack and blew on its contents first before gulping it down.

The porridge tasted light with a hint of sweetness. Surprised, she asked Jack, "You made this?

    How?"

She knew how to cook, but she was never quite mastered the knack of cooking porridge with

chicken soup. Something always tasted off when she made it—sometimes the taste was too strong,

or the taste of chicken didn''t alwayse through cleanly.

Jack put aside a strand of hair from her face and smiled, "It''s a secret—you don''t have to know. Just

tell me if you want some and I''ll cook it whenever you want."

Rachel didn''t know what to say.

Silently, she put down the spoon in her hand and lifted the quilt away. "I suddenly remember that I

haven''t washed my face and brushed my teeth yet. I need to go to the bathroom first."

"Okay." Jack had exhausted all of his energy to prepare the porridge. He stared at her retreating

back with a sense of loss evident in his eyes.

''What should I do to make you open your heart and ept me again, Rachel?''

In the bathroom, Rachel looked at herself in the mirror. Her face flushed slightly, and her dark eyes

looked particrly bright. She looked beautiful. It seemed like her heart kept on throbbing like crazy

whenever she saw Jack these days.

However, she was a stubborn person. She still couldn''t let go of her grudge for now, and probably

    not for a while.

Rachel cupped her hands under the stream of cold water from the faucet and sshed her face

    twice to calm herself down.

When she faced Jack again, she had regained her reasoning. She looked at him with a smile and

said, "Give me the bowl. I''ll bring it to the hospital and eat itter."

"Then let me help you pack it up downstairs."

Rachel nodded. After washing up and changing into her work clothes, she went downstairs to find

Jack waiting for her. He had a thermos in one hand and a transparent lunch box packed with cut up

    fruits in the other.

Jack ced all of them into a bag and said, "Take these to the hospital. Have the fruits when you

have a break." "Forget the fruits. I don''t have so much time." Rachel didn''t expect him to be so

    considerate.

Jack frowned. "The fruits are all ready to eat, you just need to stick a fork in and guide the slices

into your mouth. If you''re too busy to have a break, I''ll go to the hospital to feed you myself."

    ''Huh?''

Hearing this, Rachel felt blood rushing up to her face. She nced at Julie from the corner of her

eye and saw the other woman giggling happily with her hands covering her mouth. Rachel felt even

    more embarrassed.

She reached for the bag and said in an irritated tone, "No, thanks. I can feed myself."

Jack didn''t give her the bag but instead handed it to Julie. "I''ll take you to the hospital. Come, I''ll

help you put on your shoes."

"No, thanks." Rachel took a step back, but Jack held on to her hand tightly. He whispered in her ear,

"Rachel, if you insist on being this stubborn,

I will carry you to the car first before I help you wear your shoes. What do you think?"

Rachel gasped, at a loss for words.

She rolled her eyes and cursed inwardly, but she could only let Jack press on her shoulders so that

she could sit on the chair by the door.

Jack opened the shoe cab and asked, "Which pair of shoes do you want to wear today?"

"The white one." Rachel pointed at the pair.

Jack took the shoes from the cab. After taking a look at the pair, he frowned at returned them to

the cab. Then, he picked up a pair of t sneakers and said, "The heels on those white shoes

are a bit too high. You can wear these instead."

''What is he talking about? High heels?''

Rachel gaped at Jack, eyes wide with disbelief. ''He actually thought that three-centimeter heels are

    too high?''

She was a little speechless. "Do you think those sneakers match what I''m wearing today?"

She used those sneakers when taking a stroll. She was about to go to the hospital. How could

    those shoes look professional?

She reached out and plucked the white pair from the cab and slipped her feet in them. She

stood up and straightened her clothes, saying, "I''m wearing a dress today, and you want me to wear

    sneakers? That''s so weird."

Jack scratched his nose awkwardly and ced the sneakers back into the shoe cab. He looked

up to find that Rachel had already taken the bag from Julie''s hand and walked out, so he hurried to

    catch up with her.

Looking at the two of them leaving one after another, Julie chuckled and muttered, "If only they

    could always be like this."

The car slowly stopped at the hospital driveway. Jack got out of the car, trotted over to the

passenger side, and opened the door. He reached out his hand to take hers and said carefully, "Be

careful. We''ll use another car tomorrow. The flooring of this vehicle is too high, and it''s inconvenient

for you to get in and out."

Cold sweat trickled down her forehead. What did he think of her? She was just pregnant. Did he

think that she couldn''t even manage to get herself in and out of a car?

She looked up at him wordlessly for a moment, and then said, "Jack, my legs are not that short.

What she meant was that she could reach the ground by stretching her legs. Why did he think that it

was such a difficulty for her?

Jack understood what she meant. He scratched his head and smiled awkwardly. He saw the food

bag in her hand and added, "I''ll take this. Let me walk you to your office."

"Jack, there''s no need." Rachel avoided his outreached hand and then stopped to look straight at

him. "Jack, I can do all these things by myself. When you were with Scarlett, I did all these things by

myself. There is no need to make exceptions for me now that you''vee back." Rachel''s voice

was a little harsh. She saw him flinch and his face took on an odd expression. She suddenly felt a

    pang of regret.

However, she couldn''t take the words back.

Jack''s expression change wasn''t brought on by her sharp retort. Instead, he was reminded of his

mistakes and felt remorse wash through him. At the same time, he knew that she misunderstood his

    rtionship with Scarlett.

He licked his lips and said softly. "Rachel, actually, Scarlett and I—"

Rachel lifted a hand to stop him before he could say another word. "I''m going to bete. Let''s talk

about it when I get off work."

"Okay." Jack watched Rachel walk into the elevator and nced at his wristwatch. He knew that her

duty would start in twenty minutes, yet she said that she was going to bete. Evidently, she didn''t

want to talk to him about that subject that she came up with such a flimsy excuse.

Jack felt his shoulders sag, and his face was suffused with fatigue and a profound sadness.

"Rachel, you haven''t had breakfast yet, have you? Let''s go to the cafeteria together when I''m done

here," one of her colleagues greeted her as soon as she came out of the elevator.

Rachel lifted the food bag in her hand and said with a smile, "That''s okay, I brought my breakfast

this morning." The colleague sniffed the air and exaggeratedly said, "Wow! What did you bring

    today? It smells so good."

Rachel said, "It''s just porridge with chicken soup. I brought a lot of it. Would you like to have some?"

"Of course!" As soon as she heard the offer for free breakfast, her colleague stopped clearing up

the documents on her desk, took out her own lunch box from her drawer, and followed Rachel into

    her office.

Smelling the fragrance of porridge and looking at the fruits in the box, the colleague said with

admiration, "Rachel, you are amazing! We have to clock in early for work, yet you still have time to

    prepare so much delicious food."

She shoveled spoonfuls of porridge into her mouth one after another and sighed, saying feelingly,

"This porridge is so delicious. I used to hate eating porridge with chicken soup the most because

the ones I''ve had before tasted really weird, but this is really good. Rachel, can you teach me how

    to cook this?"

Rachel smiled and replied, "I did not cook that."

"Did you buy it, then?" the colleague continued to ask.

This time, Rachel didn''t answer, so her colleague took her silence as a yes. She suddenly quieted

down and focused her attention to the porridge in front of her. Soon, she finished the porridge,

letting out a loud burp as she wiped her mouth with a tissue.

She leaned back against her chair and rubbed her belly. She was about to say something to Rachel

when her phone vibrated and distracted her. She quickly opened WeChat and zoomed in the photo

she had just received. Her frown deepened the longer she stared at the photo.
