You’re unsure if I’m even talking to you. Oh yeah. I’m talking to you alright, I think to myself. [SLURPING SOUND, CERAMIC MUG THUDS ONTO OAK COUNTER, BURP] “Earth,” I say and then pause for effect. I take a deep pull from my large frothy beer, let out a burp and a satisfied sigh, then continue, “and our entire universe has been hushslapped by the rest of the Omniverse.” You look me up and down, confused and now clearly worried. “It’s like joining a voice call, only to be muted and deafened by someone else.” “I just wanted to order a taco—” “I used to be like you,” I say loudly, cutting you off. My voice, I realize, is slurring. “Oh, kay, you okay, man?” I get up in a quick motion causing my stool to go flying, grab you by the collar and pull your ear weirdly close to my mouth. “Whoa! Dude, get off—” “Listen,” I whisper, holding you firmly, and totally realizing my hot hoppy breath is creepy as hell . . . I continue, “When death finds you—and it will—you are going to get thrust into the games. When that happens you need to ask for Sam Parr. That’s me. Do that, and I’ll explain more. I’ll explain everything.” I release your collar and take a step back. Your eyes are pleading, looking for help. I reach into my flannel jacket, pull out a book, and thrust it against your chest. “For now . . . just read this. It’ll help, but only a little. It’s just the start.” Then I turn, and exit the bar, leaving you standing there, looking at the back of the book stunned, and now hopefully, just a little . . . curious.  What to expect in general:- WARNING: RR is my playground. There will be glaring mistakes. There will be edits, both large and small. Things will change after you read them. I'll try my best not to change the meaning, but it can and probably will happen.- WARNING: I write most weeks, but my posting schedule will be sporadic, especially between books.- Stupid banter between MC and company.- A MC who is kind of dumb sometimes, because he just is.- A MC who cares about doing what is right.- A MC who wants to understand why we exist.
