    43 Unraveling Control


    Alex’s unexpected arrival the morning after her wild night out startled Lillian, who shrieked at the sight


    of her brother. She always held a deep–seated fear of Alex,plying with his dictates since


    childhood. His stern expression told her all she needed to know.


    “Why are you here, Alex? You know I was out all night,” Lillian stammered, clutching her nket
